Great video...I like all your videos. Video and Photography editor here looking to move to the QNAP TVS-h674 from my old Drobo 5D3. Keep up the good work, I enjoy watching everything you put out, thanks 🙏🏻
Exactly .... I did move from Synology 4 similar reasons.... Synology just let all media guys behind, I did re+turn the Synology ds1621xs+ in exchange for the Qnap tvs-h674-i5-32g.... huge difference.
What makes qnap better. I am seeing different answers most saying synology is better. I do photo and video i dont know if the reviews keep that in mind.
@Ray Valdez Photography well all depends, Synology used to be good with the media guys and when I said media "guys" I am referring to guys like me, that the principal purpose of our nas is video editing, for pictures I think still a great but for video is not no more, after the Ds920 they stop taking care of serious streaming or 4k quality, you will hear that Synology is more secure and Qnap not, but in reality it is just the Os and the way I was designed, Synology created a more friendly user use, easy for most anyone, the hardware is ok for files and corporations, Qnap in the order hand is more for guys with more advanced knowledge, but the best is the hardware, most of the time they release the last generation of Cpus, designed for media streaming, 4k and some up to 8k, super powerful. Then it all depends what you need it for, I think if you just do photography the Synology will be ok ...BUTTTT!! If you do videos and you don't want to struggle with lag and 0 4k streaming definitely go with the Qnap, like I told you Qnap is very safe if you know how to secure it. Also just to let you know I did tried the Synology Ds1621xs+ and for video 4k it is bad then I just got the new released Qnap Tvs-h674-i5-32g-us.... man this is a beast!! and future proof. GOD BLESS!!!
I’m just having to move from external drives because I have so many stacked up and it’s so frustrating. This really helped me out a lot. Thank you so much! What’s these other videos popping up about security breaches with this system?
Hey Edwin, thanks for the comment! Yeah, so QNAP had a security flaw in one of their old versions of the operating system. They fixed it a little while back.
You can’t access the same project at the same time (overwrite issues) but you could use a team project and you certainly can both access different projects that access the same media at the same time.
Hi I’m not still not Shure what nas to buy I’m setting a nas up more for 4k streaming witch one would you say is better as the one I have got I know won’t be powerful enough it’s that old lol 😂 cheers
You really helped me! Now that NVME SSDs are so cheap, would you recommend buying a budget NVME SSD for the QNAP? 1-2TB maybe is enough for a 18-32 TB NAS?
Glad I could help Kasper! As to your question, it kind of depends on what your using the NAS for. If you have lots of data or media that you access all the time and could improve your workflow by being stored in the SSD cache then I’d say definitely do that but if you work on new things all the time and no project is the same then you wouldn’t see a benefit unless the main storage in the NAS was SSD instead of HDD. Hope that helps?
Thanks for the video! Does anyone know if the NAS has to be connected to the router via an Ethernet cable? I work from home and the router is in the other end of the house than the office space and I don't necessarily want to run a 100ft cable across the house. Also, does wifi speed effect the speed of the NAS? Thanks for any and all help, I am new to NAS servers!
Hey Layne, you can use power line adapters but it’s definitely less reliable than a proper Ethernet cable though I know the struggle. Wifi is a no-go I’m afraid, the bandwidth and stability aren’t strong enough.
@@DigiProTips Thanks for the reply! Bummer, so essentially the only reliable option is to run an ethernet cable through the house to the router OR keep the NAS by the router but then run an ethernet cable the other way to the computer? Thanks!
Good day! I need an expert opinion! We have a small film production. We have an office and 4 Mac Studio in it. We want to install a NAS in the studio so that we can edit from it IN PARALLEL on all 4 computers, accessing the same volumes/files from several editing stations at the same time. We plan to make a local 10G network. I want to buy QNAP TVS-h1688X-W1250-32G for this purpose. But some sellers in stores assure me that this is an amateur level device and it will not allow mounting simultaneously from several mounting stations, and advise me to buy QSAN XCubeNAS XN8012R which in my opinion will not justify its money because it has weaker characteristics (we also do not have a server rack now). What do you advise in this case? I want to find the best solution for my money and not let my fellow editors down so that they don't suffer from bugs later.

Thanks so much for the amazing comment! Glad you like my type of content!
Let us know how you get on with the TVS-H674.
17:09 - assuming you meant that with a 2x10GbE bonded connection, you meant '2 GB/sec connection' vice the quoted 200 MB/sec? :)

This might be a dumb question, but could we edit footage off a QNAP using a Mac and pc at the same time in premiere ?
