  • One of the most frequent questions I have been asked since I wrapped up the Great Bass Boat Search of 2021 was why I never finished the Vexus review. So today I answer that question, and I give you as what I liked and what I disliked about the boat, plus my efforts to finish the review last fall and this spring. Hopefully this put this issue to bed once and for all.
I started the Great Bass Boat Search, or the Watch This Before You Buy A Bass Boat Series last year when I started looking for a new boat after having been with Ranger for a number of years. In the series I test 15 different boats in the 20-21 foot range and give you my honest and, largely, unbiased opinion of what I liked and disliked with every boat.

Thanks for the update, and I realize this is a 1-year old video. However, I am in the process of starting a new Bass Boat search as I get ready to part ways with my 2000 Ranger 520 DVX "Bass Master's Classic Edition" with 225 Mercury Optimax. I am just now watching your video series which is great and I think still very relevant in my opinion. You made an interesting comment in your video that I can say is definitely being said up here around the Great Lakes where I live. The Vexus boat is always mentioned as something to seriously consider IF you plan on fishing the Great Lakes often. Seems that Bass Cat and Phoenix are also very popular, but the Vexus seems to have an excellent "Great Lakes" reputation. I have heard that several times now. I hope to take one for a test drive soon, but like you, I am seriously leaning towards Bass Cat Lynx or Puma STS.

Good video Ken, understandable why you didn’t continue with the review. In hindsight, dealer communication and cooperation probably should be a grading category, that’s pretty important to a boat owner. Thanks for the boat review series, probably one of the most interesting and valuable I’ve ever seen.

I have a VX21 and I am really pleased with it. I've owned 21' Rangers and Skeeters and loved them but the ride in those don't compare to my Vexus. I fish Ky Lake and Pickwick which can get pretty rough and it has done well on those lakes.

You put a ton of effort into your "search", thanks for that. In my opinion you bought the best boat money can buy, a BassCat. As I have said before I have a 2016 Puma and planned to buy one more new boat as my last boat (I am 67), but don't know I can bring myself to buy a new one with the price increases that are coming to all brands for the 2022 model year. My boat cost $60,000 when I bought new. To get to that level now is close to $80,000, don't know if I can talk myself into that.

I've been waiting for this review. Too bad on the ride, would have liked to see the ride and on water video. Thank you Ken! Also, love your Bass Cat.

I just finished watching both videos on the Vexus. I am Sorry to hear that you could not complete your review. I don't understand why they kept giving you the run around. Companies need to understand that once the word gets out on how they treat people, no one will want to buy there brand. Communication is the key. Awesome videos I have been learning a lot. Keep it up.

Thanks for the honest comments Ken. For those of us that are using your Bass Boat review series to help us make our next bass boat purchase... can you explain, in detail, your experience 'chasing a Vexus' boat ride? Who you where speaking with (Vexus, boat owner, Dealer)? What was said that wasn't true? Why you where ultimately unable to sit/review/ride in a 21' Vexus? One super impressive unsuspected outcome of your Bass Boat review series was Rick Pierce. I have concern regarding a bass boat manufacture that would not want to be a part of this series. Did Vexus not want you to review their 21' Bass boat? Agian, thank you for the series, the honesty, and all the hard work.

I think it’s obvious you made the right choice! Seems to me if Vexus thought you were wrong about your questions they would have gone out of their way to show you. Very few companies have a CEO like Rick who will sit down with you and take the time to answer all questions!

I recently bought a 2022 Ranger z520r loaded out which was not cheap. There are so many things wrong with it that I’m in the process of getting rid of it with less than 10 hours on it. I was looking Vexus because that’s where a lot of Ranger guys went when BassPro bought them out..at least that’s what I heard from multiple sources. So I thought that’s where the quality is now. My mind has been changed from wanting a Vexus now. The old Ranger crew would have let people test their boats so I feel like they are hiding something now. I guess I need to look toward skeeter, basscat or phoenix. I just want a good reliable boat for as much as they cost now days. And amazing features too. Thanks for the review.

Another good video, maybe the conflicting boat ride reviews is just about who knows how to drive rough water... I like to think I'm okay at it but if you would do a video on driving rough water I would watch it!!!

The fact that Vexus didn't step up with a boat for review says a lot! The review process that you created is about as objective as it possibly can be.

Dee it was not Vexus corporate, I was told I couldn't use a boat for a reason and then that reason was demonstrated not to be true. I'm absolutely not trying to throw anybody under, or even around the bus. Just explaining my frustration in not being able to complete what i set out to do.

Copy - thanks for sharing. Your videos are awesome. I have a vx21 on order should be ready within the next month or so. Buying a boar is all about personal preferences- no boat is 100%, just have to pick your battles. I plan on doing an depth review of mine when I get it - to help answer questions of ppl out there.
Thanks again and your series of reviews are awesome.

I emailed vexus with a few questions and they got back to me the next day. I have questions out to skeeter and its been 3 weeks and not a peep from anyone at skeeter, its disappointing because they have boats in my price range, dont think i can afford the vexus but i sure liked their seating, Im disabled and need a soft ride because of my spinal condition.

I spent some time in a VX21 at Chickamauga and I was not impressed from the co-angler perspective. I did not like the upright ride feeling. I felt safe in the boat, but I prefer to be down in farther. Also, I absolutely was not a fan of the gun rack style rod holders for the co-angler. The last thing I want to worry about is are my rods safe and secure while running down the lake and I did not feel that they were.

Thanks for the follow up. I don’t blame you for shutting down on the Vexus chase; that may tell us all we need to know.
However, I would love to still see a 20/21 nitro. I know KVD has had a lot of input into the 21.
Several top pros including KVD use nitros. I can’t imagine it being a great boat, but maybe a 7.5 out of 10. I know there are a ton of them out there and most owners love them and have no complaints.
