man scorpy actually hits the whole "luke is dressed like a bad guy" thing right on the head! one of the running threads in Return is luke's connection to his father, and that includes the fact that the dark side could just as easily assimilate him as it did anakin. he even uses force choking in his first scene while in the dark robes, suggesting to the audience that he is more like vader than how we saw him in the past two films. scorpy is right! it DOES mean something!
I ADORE how as soon as baaulp started hating on the idea of an old timey diner combined with sci fi space aesthetic chat ERUPTED into "IT RULES" and "NO FUN ALLOWED" and "HATERS" and they're right. Dexter Jettster's restaurant is such a fun look. I get why you'd hate the scene being so abruptly inserted in the movie but the idea of a 50s diner in the style of Star Wars is just plain fun
I’ll be fully honest, most people I know who watched the prequels as a kid fucking loved the dry politics scenes and the stupid diner. I know I did. It definitely set up a love for lore-dumps and in universe politics in a generation of people, for better or for worse. Also I’m autistic and my friends are mostly also autistic so that might have something to do with it
Regarding Luke's black outfit in Return of the Jedi: Throughout the trilogy, Luke's outfits progress from white to grey to black to represent how tempted he is by the darkside. But in the last stretch of ROTJ, Luke opens up a flap to reveal a white inner lining. He was pure good the whole time. Visual poetry.
To be honest, playing lego star wars is a more coherent experience of the prequel story because in every level they summarize the scene in crawl text. That’s quite literally the only way i had any idea what those movies were about as a kid.
same! and honestly same with the OT too. i was scared of every movie until i was in my late teens so for YEARS all i knew about star wars was from the LEGO games and also a RTS game i played on the computer and used cheat codes to spawn in 300 ewoks to destroy my enemies with.
to expound upon the Maclunkey controversy - in the original cut, Han shoots first. In the remastered version from i wanna say 2011, Greedo shoots first and Han's head kind of awkwardly shifts to the side. In the Disney+ version, Greedo says "Maclunkey," it's the only thing he says that isn't translated via onscreen captions, and then Greedo shoots first and Han awkwardly CGi-dodges. there is a legit reason for greedo to shoot first - I believe the story is that execs didn't like that Han shooting first implied he was a cold-blooded killer, so they changed it so it was self-defense but they just added "maclunkey!" to the scene for absolutely no reason
The even weirder thing is that it's an edit from the unfinished 3d episode 4 cut that George Lucas was working on prior to the selling of the franchise, meaning one the last things George Lucas ever did with star wars was add mclunky.

I feel like it might have just been from me living in a poor area in the south, but I feel like those star wars cups just fucking manifested in every home
You're on to something. I can CLEARLY remember the Star Wars cups. Again, it might have been a southern thing, but I definitely know what you're talking about
oh I'm so sad Mike didn't go into full detail about the assassin ,(hired by jango fett, who was hired by Palpatine), who sent a robot to send bugs to kill Padme. Maximum levels of delegation. Also how Anakin gets rid of the bugs in her bed by doing a flip and hitting them with his laser sword. Clone wars sucks in the best ever way.
The prequels rule tbh, I never watched the movies with Luke or Rey (I think that's her name???) but I was captivated by Anakin's origin story. Obi Wan is definitely my favorite though, wish I could have seen more of his origin and Jedi training
@@oceanelambert2507 I remember at one point he said he thought it was about "kid named Anakin has to find the spire" and I wanted more of that I suppose
"the first scifi movie that's taking itself seriously" i'm starting to believe that baaulp hasn't seen movies that aren't star wars and may have not seen star wars either
i think he somehow confused that with the fact that this was really the first popular sci fi franchise where everything looked lived in. everything was all grimy and shiny surfaces were smudged unlike a lot of other tv and movies where everything was in pristine condition
Honestly the most entertaining parts of this video is like cheering for Scorpy when he actually gets a Star Wars thing correct, Also Marvis is just the funniest misname just EVER. EDIT, because I was not expecting the prequel segments to be THIS funny. I think the lesser amount of screenshots just cause comedy gold when you just like skip 20 minutes of movie to the next screenshot.
the phrase "star wars food" brought back a vivid memory of my childhood. i dont think i ever watched a star wars movie in full then but my family had a star wars cookbook. and i remember Yoda Floats. which was just a float with lime sherbert. green like yoda. i still remember the taste and how sticky that cookbook was to the touch.

Fun fact: Luke wears black in return of the Jedi to hint that he may join the dark side, when palpatine encourages him to kill earth Vader, you can see under his coat is a white shirt showing that he was never actually veering towards the dark side
I can only guess they mean CBT Yoda. I don't know if that originated from tumblr or twitter, but that's all I can think of that they could be referring to. Correct me if I'm wrong.
full respect to baaulp as this was his stream and production but CHRIST dude he just YELLS every sentence and has everyone else set to such low volume i cant watch this without getting a headache unless I just mute it and turn on captions
kinda wish they didnt go over the prequels, or at least tried not to let their negative bias show as much as it did. not saying they aren't allowed to dislike them (everyone's allowed to have their own opinions etc etc) but it became less of a comedic retelling and more of a rant. believe me the prequels are FAR from perfect but the way people treat them is almost like anti-nostalgia; they can only see everything wrong with them. it gets tiring after a while
