Even if I prefer the second "standard" version, it is really interesting to see Liszt's development and change of his mind. The most fascinating point for me is, that in the 1st version he uses much more material from Paganini's concerto. We listen to a completely different piece of music. Honestly, I do not understand, why other pianists don't play it, as well. There is so much to discover. I don't know how to say it correctly, but you expanded my horizon :-) You did a phenomenal job, I think this is much harder to play than the standard 2nd version. Once again, thank you so much! And I hope to hear more such gems from you. I just discovered the 1st version Paganini Etude 6... I just could copy & paste my comment and put it there...
Rafael R. I believe the reason why there are so few pianist playing this version is because it’s too difficult. There is a reason why Lizst had to revise this piece and it’s because it was too difficult.

@@zswu31416 That's just about big enough, I have the same hand size and really struggled on the right hand broken chords. There's that one part where you have to play it like La campanella 1851's beginning but much faster, less wide jumps and with the high note being C#, even found that to be easier than the former.

Non so quante donne, nel corso della storia, abbiano tentato di avvicinare questi studi di difficoltà proibitiva. Oltretutto, i precedenti maschili discografici non brillano per "trascendentalità". Mi pare proprio che con la Tomellini ci siamo. Anche nella caratterizzazione del secondo tema, il finale del primo concerto, che scomparirà nella versione definitiva.

The second one is actually the third one. The second one is s.140, the one most people know is s.141. The second one is scary.
