    Question for you: we're installing an island on tile floor w. infloor heating (slab on grade). What can we use to secure the island to the floor? We're scared of hitting the in-floor with a screw...

    Only thing I'd be worried about is the exposed cuts in particle board touching the floor and sucking any spills like a sponge. But, great job.

    I liked the video because I don't like toe kicks on the sides or back on an island. I'm curious, for the back of the island, you could do it with one 36x96 panel. But then one of the bottoms would be unfinished. Did you use two panels? Or do you do something to seal the bottom of an unfinished panel?

    I need to slow down on my kitchen, I'm just a week ahead of you. I installed an island last weekend and somehow, someway used the exact same techniques you used here. Also, I placed the drill standing up and my lovely wife kicked it over. Oh well, the floor was going to get a scratch some time.

    Hi, I've tried search for "counter top" cutting and installation on your channel and no results have come up. Do you have any video for this? I planning to install a wood veneer top. I understand it's a more specialised job and I'd like to see what it involves, both techniques and equipment wise. Even if it is beyond my scope, I'll have an idea what the honest way to do it is, when I quiz tradesman before I agree to the job.
    Many thanks.

    I would love to know your thoughts on a sink hack to accommodate a farmhouse apron sink in the ikea base. We will reinforce and hide any of that with panels. So you don’t talk about counter top installs. We plan to put a quartz countertop on. Would we set the farmhouse sink top level to the ikea boxes? I don’t want a space between the counter and the sink it sits on.

    • @uptokode
      @uptokode  Год назад

      I could definitely figure it out. And just so I’m clear… you want the quartz to sit on top of the sink?
      I say just do it. Cut the sides of the box down. Do what it takes.
      It’s hard to help beyond that unless I see the sink.

    Hi Kody, Do you have a video on how you anchored these cabinets down? I'm planning on using the 002.984.06 part. However, I've seen videos that show that it doesn't quite reach the bottom of the cabinet so extra wood is needed. I'd like to see your solution.

    • @uptokode
      @uptokode  2 года назад +1

      If you use my plywood base method then just set and screw the base to the floor. Level of course. Then set your cabinets on that and screw those down. Done like dinner. And solid.

      @@uptokode Hi, thx for the video. If you have spills later on that seep under the floor construction and stay between the wood and the floor, isn't that an issue with wood? How do you address that issue, please?

  • @annelandry4131

    Also, we have a similar setup but with an additional cabinet that faces the opposite direction. A quartz countertop will capture all cabinets and leave an overhang on the side next to the single opposite-facing cabinet to create a space to tuck under two bar stools. There is no cover panel that is a fit that we are aware of. Saw where someone else they sggested taking a fridge side panel and cutting it to fit - but that will leave one raw edge exposed... Make sense? Any advice??

    • @uptokode
      @uptokode  2 года назад

      Makes sense. I sometimes “chase” my panels so I also have a finished edge. Depending on the cabinet you can edge tape it and paint match. Or edge tape and stain match. Or buy a trim piece for corner but again it’s a matching process.
      Chasing is hard to describe. Might not be possible on an island. The backside you can butt 2 cut edges together like I did in this video. Except the back panel would run past the sides so you can cut each side to appropriate depth. And yes fridge panels is the ticket here.
      Let me know if this helps.

    • @uptokode
      @uptokode  2 года назад +2

      Haha. I wasn’t there to see how much space there was the the receptacle. I imagine not much. You would have to keep it to the very back where the DW is rounded. Definitely something important to keep in mind.
      You could also build a pillar sort of speak to give more space at the back and side of DW.
      As for back to back. If you use the plywood base there’s a good chance you won’t need to fasten them together. Screw down and side to side. Should be pretty strong.

    Do you prefer installing the LVT flooring before or after cabinet install?

    • @uptokode
      @uptokode  2 года назад +2

      It’s personal preference. For an island it’s nice to install flooring before hand.

    • @conradcoolerfiend
      @conradcoolerfiend 2 года назад +2

      I like to install flooring after for 3 reasons:
      1. People change flooring more often than changing cabinets
      2. If you have floating laminate or engineered hardwood, it expands and contracts, it’s not good to screw through it and anchor it. Can cause gapping in floor joints down the road
      3. Save on flooring material
      That said, for LVT, 2 doesn’t apply. 1 still does tho so you gotta make a call if you care about the future or not. I install cab boxes first, then flooring, then kicks and cover panels to hide cuts. It’s not much extra work.
