MY college loans - and those of my classmates - were capped at something like 3% interest, and it was easy to get a temporary deferral for good cause (like: "hey I suddenly am jobless, got nothing to pay you back with!"). The people who are asking for loan forgiveness NOW have been victims of grifters and usurers. It doesn't hurt me ONE IOTA to help out the younger borrowers, even though I paid my loans back. People like her make me physically ill.
The main issue is somehow you end up paying way more then you took out. Sorry but I was taught in business class a loan is money you lend to someone and they pay you back, with a little bit of a markup for your troubles. I don't get how people think "interest" that ends up being double or triple the principal is anywhere near acceptable to just "pay it back".

In Australia you only repay a percentage of your income. If you don't earn enough to reach the threshold you don't pay at all.
