Amazing, amazing. The picture of mother with child taking from the taxi blows me away every time I see it. Steve McCurry is a very special photographer.
What focal lengths does he use for the shots that look wider, like the train and the TAJ, and yet still seem to have that 'pop' that the 50mm+ focal lengths seem to get. Is he just farther away when he shoots most of the time? Or are some of these shots at 35mm or smaller? Forgive me if the answer is obvious but I am merely an amateur.
Brian He would have shot that image with a telephoto lens of some kind. I think what you are referring to is the compression of the background that you get with a telephoto lens, where the background sort of appears much closer to the subject than it is.
What a legend!!! Bring my tears up.

Yes, and sometimes a very good photoshopper: thewire.in/the-arts/exposing-steve-mccurrys-photoshopped-world
What is wrong if he uses edition software on his pics? Postprocessing is an extremely important part of photography.
Master of composition, love him he is just legend.
Such hauntingly beautiful images and to listen to Steve explain his experiences gave me goosebumps 🙏❤️🙏
Grande maestro!
Truly Outstanding...
Incredible, and he doesn't use (or need) a small, descreet camera by the looks of it to capture people in their natural state.
Great video

From my understanding, the pop comes during post-processing. I think there is a fair amount of color correction, dodging and burning.

The begging woman and child at the taxi which gave you a cover picture for a book; did you give them any money?
Chris Mears How could he? He was in a cap in busy street and he said that moment with that photo only lasted for few secs.
