For some 35 years, ABC had a strong one-two punch in the TV ratings on Saturday afternoons in the winter and early spring with the "Pro Bowlers Tour" (originally 3:30-5 P.M. ET; later 3-4:30 P.M. ET)followed by "Wide World Of Sports" (originally 5-6:30 P.M. ET; later, 4:30-6 P.M. ET).
Earl just couldn't getting going at full steam, but his strength is keeping the ball in play, either in the pocket or very close to the pocket. Earl was one of the greatest, if not the greatest.
I was 15 years old when this happened. I had bowling lessons at Pearl River Lanes from Joe B.'s father (Joe sr.). A great family, and everyone was so proud of him when he took the title. I can watch this and Joe's white-knuckle 1-2-4 spare conversion in the 10th to win the Firestone, over and over.
I remember watching this when I was a kid, because of the emotions Joe showed after discovering he was the winner. Oddly, I did NOT remember how he struggled near the end of the match to get the win. Berardi is/was a terrific bowler; always enjoyed watching him in a match.

What is the intro song in this video
Breezin by George Benson!
The more clips I see of Berardi, the more respect I have for him. Hell of a bowler, but more importantly.....a class act.
I’ve never seen anybody have such bad luck from the number one position!
berardi, Glover and Godman were joined at the hip
Berardi was such a stylist! ; )
Such small payouts when Earl the Pearl was king. I know 1970.s, still small payouts for a major.
