My account had this thing on it last month where it compared my usage to the neighborhoods. I electricity usage is way lower than average because I live in an apartment and not one of the massive houses around here, but my gas is way higher than average because I cook three meals a day and people in those massive houses are always eating out!
Excellent video. As an advocate for reform of this residential market- this electricity market was re-structured, which is code for re-regulated in the interests of the Retail energy suppliers. Video mentions "purchase of receivables," the industry drug that means a door-to-door-100%-commissioned salesman, from the community, can sell to a low-income account. Supplier gets paid even if household can't pay bill. (you pickup the cost! ) Buried in ALL contracts is that prices will soar, unless you figure out your bill. Can you see your mom, sister, uncle, buddy at Pickle ball computing the extra they paid? This bill is from a guy in Baltimore City, he didn't enroll legally, got "slammed" as the WSJ article reported-he paid an extra $2635.10 to IDT for the same, exact electricity as BGE charged. Legislators & regulators created this, now they need to fix it.
Man it cracks me up every time people try to reform capitalism, " consumers need better education from the industry" you mean to tell me these private electric companies are gonna want to educate the very customers that they're ripping off? Comedy
@@agisler87 yea Okay buddy capitalism is so great it only crashes every like 10 years. @@whodeani2216 I would rather it crash every 10 years than the increased poverty of moving to another system. It's not perfect but better than anything else. It's also pretty easy to argue that the crashes are only because of government involvement. We don't here about the severe crash of 1920 because it was short thanks to lack of government involvement. Unlike 1929 and what lead to 2008. Yes during the winterstorm we paid twice the national average, but in normal times our electricity costs are cheap.
I know for a fact my bill is lower than my neighbors. I’m lucky enough to get the friends and family hook up from a friend that works in O&G. My 1700 sq ft home stays at 70 degrees in TX and my monthly bill is $95 / month. 😊 It’s legit my only flex.
You can make a case electricity and railway are natural monopolies and therefore should be government run.. I don't believe that myself. Petroleum however I don't see any case for why that should be government ran. It's a commodity that doesn't require massive infrastructure.
The UK system is split into two/three I think. National Grid for transmission. Generation and/or retail suppliers. Often the little guys are the cheapest, with the "Big 6" being the most expensive

That’s not different from Cambodia, during COVID-19 outbreaks and lockdown the city, electricity bills are increased more than usual, and authorities told people in the city have to pay for the bill
There pretty none existant here in Michigan due to the electric co. Started charging the alternative electric companys for using there infrastructure. Which killed the cost savings.

All this video does is highlight how everyone loves a "market" economy as long as it's benefiting them but when things go badly and it's time to pay up (ALWAYS an eventuality, not if but when) they don't want to pay and then want the "socialist" solution of controlled pricing. Can't have it both ways.

Capitalism doesn't need reform. It's the best system. We just need government to stop putting it's foot on the back of capitalism.

Hi friend, you looking good that I couldn't resist to say hi
Im in tx paying 300-600/mo
In GA we have not for profit co-ops. Seems okay, we get like 30% of our electricity from nuclear/solar.
Electricity, Railways, Petroleum are some of the things that any government shouldn’t privatize.

I disagree, but I feel like regulations are needed.
Should look at the insane amount of comparing servies in the UK. Seems to be a good model

It's great for consumers who actually do the leg work and not for idiots who say yes to any man who shows up to their door. Sounds good to me.

Solar panels are also expensive, however, over the long term, you would save money. Clearly, you have no knowledge of this...
