I was stationed at MCAGCC (Marine Air/Ground Combat Center) from 1989 to 1993. Loved the high desert. Still live in the high desert in Albuquerque. Used to drive all over the place, and would take Hwy 62 out of 29 Palms to Vidal Junction and Earp, then into AZ. You can still see the outlines of the huge temporary camps that George Patton used to train his armored forces prior to WWII. He needed enough room to maneuver an armored division or two, for at least two days. He would start in Arizona and enter California, then turn around. Fascinating stuff. Fascinating area. Never saw snow out there as we get in New Mexico. Drove out by Amboy, thru Needles, CA, when going to Las Vegas, NV. Cheers!!

I grew up at the 29 Palms Inn. I cherish all of my memories there. Thank you Jane for your kindness and always allowing my mom to bring me to work with her.

First time in 29 Palms, Jumbo Rock, in 1968, again in 1975. Stationed in, or about, the Marine Air/Ground Combat Center (MCAGCC) at the end of the 1980s. I made a lot of friends and had lots of fun, motorcycle racing, mountain climbing and partying at the Stumps and Best Western. Saw a lot of changes, including some town growth, base expansion and city infrastructure investments. I love to venture from my hometown, Las Vegas, NV, and visit a laid back version, 29 Palms, CA, with its art, culture, sustained oasis spots, dining and night life. 29 Palms, California is a hoot and worth the return.
