- The new station of Delft will open in 2015. It’s a station like no other in the Netherlands, featuring many details that connect the building to the unique character of Delft, blending the city’s history with its focus on innovation.
In a new short film, Francine Houben takes the opportunity to show more of the project and explain the ideas behind the design. “When you arrive at the station, you really experience arriving in Delft,” she says. For instance, the columns and walls are cladded in a reinterpretation of Delft blue, a hand crafted pattern of broken tiles in four shades ranging from dark blue to white.
One of the most eye-catching features is the large vaulted ceiling which shows a map of Delft as it was in 1877. Created together with Geerdes Ontwerpen, the map has been printed on 1929 straight and bended lamellae. Therefore, the visitors’ perception of the image changes continuously as they move through the building, creating a stunning welcoming experience.
The opening of the train station will be a major milestone in the extensive renewal of a central area of Delft, putting the existing railway tracks underground to make room for the Municipal Offices and Train Station by Mecanoo, and other new commercial and residential developments.

It has been 6 years after the original station was permanently closed.
Het heeft lang geduurd, maar dan heb je ook wat!

It used to be a pleasure to arrive in Delft by train. Passengers had a fantastic view of the city an arrived at an attractive, compact station which was easily accessible by public and private transport. But then the city council came up with megalomaniac plans to build a huge palace for bureaucrats and officials, on top of an underground railway tunnel with an attractive station. They bought and demolished all buildings in the area, except for the monumental old railwaystation. Then they turned the city centre in a huge, noisy, dusty, dangerous, inconvenient building site, for more than 7 years already. This has caused massive problems for the entire population of Delft, ranging from an impending bankrupcy of the city, health problems, accidents, and huge inconveniences. Believe it or not, the new station/palace does not have a single parking space, because a garage would make it too expensive. People will depend on public transportation, which is increaingly expensive. Or they will have to walk or use their bicycle. The station might become a magnificent icon, but the people of Delft must pay the extremely high bill. The city council is technically and morally bankrupt, and is cutting services and facilities for all people except the leaders, officials, and their friends. Welcome to Delft. Please bring lots of money.
mocht je niet op de hoogte zijn van het project wat claimed te kennen.. er komt onder de gracht die op de plaats van de spoorbaan wordt gelegd een gigantische parkeer garage.. station delft moest hoe dan ook uitbreiden maar nu hebben ze dus een station die tientallen jaren mee kan.. en het station is zelfs ver onder budget gebleven.. de spoortunnel werd mede gefinancieerd door omliggende gemeenten en de provincie omdat het veel ongezonder is voor de omgeving om het spoor boven de grond te laten, het enorm veel overlast geeft en het voor vertragingen zorgt.. zou het ook niet eens leuk zijn als je optijd op je bestemming was inplaats van dat je moet wachten op een trein die moet afremmen omdat hij door de binnenstad van delft moet gaan.. mensen zijn vrij om kritiek te hebben.. maar om kritiek te mogen geven moet je deze ook kunnen onderbouwen.. en een mening is geen feit !
Rodney Kastelan Vertel ons, Rodney, hoe veel meter is de entree van de "gigantische parkeergarage" van de entree van het station/stadskantoor? Waar is die entree van de garage? Hoe ver is het lopen vanuit het midden van de parkeergarage tot het station/stadskantoor? Welk percentage van de treinpassagiers zit liever in een tunnel dan op een viaduct? Welk percentage van passagiers vindt vindt 'tunnelstations' zoals Blaak, Rijswijk of Schiphol prettiger dan een bovengronds station? Als het niet eens lukt om treinen vlot door de Schipholtunnel te laten stromen, waarom denken 'ze' dan dat dat in Delft wel gaat lukken?
Trouwens: welke van mij eerdere observaties zijn volgens jou geen feit? Ik som daar toch gewoon feiten op?! Bijna al het geld dat Mecanoo, de aannemers, bouwers en de meeste werknemers vangen voor deze klus verlaat Delft en de bevolking zit met de schulden en al meer dan 7 jaar met de problemen. Ja, er zijn mensen die er profijt van hebben, maar dat zal een kleine minderheid van de Delftse bevolking zijn.

+Ad N Don't worry, the water tower is still there. The municipality sold/gave away the water tower for 1 euro. You can now buy it from the current owner for (nearly) 1 million euros. And by the way, the city of Delft is handing over lots of buildings at a discount of 70% to 90% to selected parties.
