  • Toontown Corporate Clash recently….. or a couple of weeks ago, showed more details regarding their newer toons for their 2.0 update. Without it taking another 5 years in the next clash video to tell you what I think, I briefly go over my thoughts so far on how I feel about it.

    Having played TTCC, I've always got the impression that it was always meant to deviate away from the Disney roots and become its own modern take on the game, while Rewritten was about capturing the tone of the original but updated.
    So in regards to customization, I welcome more variety and I don't have a problem with hairstyles and tufts on toons seeing how some Disney characters had hairstyles like Gadget Hackwrench from Rescue Rangers and Darkwing Duck's adoptive daughter, Gosalyn Mallard.
    As for the animated lip movements for chat, I love the idea of making toons feel more lively. We are way past the 2000's and MMORPGs with voice acted dialogue are now commonplace. Even Runescape had lip movements back then despite lacking voice actors. Though I do hope that mouth movements will be ironed out in future patches to become more cartoon like.
    Other than that, I'm glad to see more customization options coming in. Now if only we could get the rest of the cog heads revamped.

    I will never turn down more customization options. These look amazing to me and I'm sure when they come out they will be ironed out some more.

    Personally I like and dislike them. Let me explain:
    For cartoons you expect them to be, well, animated. So seeing still images of them looks off, like they're aren't very cartoony.
    Animated footage of them is a lot better but here's the thing I dislike the most; the animations aren't using squash-and-stretch.
    A good example of this is the mouths. They're animated sure but they're animated like humans would, with realistic limited movement. Cartoons don't do that. They stretch and squash beyond their limited design for expressive reactions and emotions, this is where I feel most people dislike it from.
    Imagine you see something amazing, how do you express it? Well you stare in amazement. But a cartoon? Their jaw literally drops to the ground and their eyes bug out like a snail. Because cartoons are exaggurated.
    Don't get me wrong, I love how they're more expressive than the original toontown; just that it isn't quite there for a cartoon. It's a good start though, I just hope they don't stop here and add some more wacky expressions later on.

      I would actually really love that approach. Although it kind of seems like a ttr move to do that since they’ve done it previously with the surprise emote. Although if clash were to do more wackier animations with the toons I think that’d be a pretty nice use of making these toons more animated. Although I don’t think that’s the direction they’re going for which kinda sucks since I feel like it’s kind of a missed opportunity for them. Hopefully though they’ll do more with this idea as time goes on before release since there’s alot you can do with animated toons.

    I do like the idea of them being more customizable but the thing that really kills me is the eyes and colored noses. You don't really see stuff like that on cartoons of that era, it make me think they're going full "Furry".
    I have nothing against furries but I do feel they're losing the point of this being a game based off cartoons.

    The idea on having toon parts being customizable is a great idea, but the way clash executed this is a bit, off. The hair on some of the toons just look like they’re a fursona. Also the toons being more animated is kinda good, the eye lids are… not quite good. My idea is that they should just stick with the eyebrows, because the toons just look off with eye lids in my opinion.

    • @c.j.8263
      @c.j.8263 8 месяцев назад +4

      i agree. the hair, some of the facial features etc. doesn't look cartoony anymore. i've no issue with fursonas, but this damages the cartoony vibe that i'm nostalgic for.

    • @c.j.8263

      toons were never created to represent furries or act as a medium for their expression, they literally make kid-friendly cartoon violence possible, which has been important in distancing the display of pranks and violence from real life people in the minds of children.
      it's one thing to blow up a coyote with his own dynamite, it's another to blow up an animated human with dynamite. one is considerably more distanced from reality.

    • @c.j.8263
      @c.j.8263 8 месяцев назад +1

      "lively" in this context makes them seem less cartoony. I worry these much more human-like body features and animations make "toon" town less, well, toon-y as a result. innovation is why clash exists in the first place, but the game's always remained cartoon themed.

  • @tararosabelle7368

    I think I might find it weird at first, but I definitely love extra customization, besides it’s just a design choice and it’s not like you have to change your current toon or anything. It makes toons feel more original to me rather than just, animal A in a toony art style, it feels more like a new unrealistic original animal that isn’t a real thing, just some mythical magical creature lol, and I LOVE stuff like that! It’s giving furry vibes in the sense that it doesn’t have to be based on an actual animal, it can be anything, and in that uniqueness I find it quite admirable. That being said, I hope people don’t make purposefully ugly looking ones or I’m just going to be like what is that guy over there every 5 minutes HAHAHA

      @c.j.8263 8 месяцев назад +1

      the colored noses is simply a different style, the animaniacs made by the warner bros had colored noses, and were just as toony as disney's creations.
      as for the animations i agree 100%. hopefully they change the animations to more closely mimic animated cartoons of that era.

    I think the hair designs are weird. Especially the yellow dog with the cinnamon roll hair over one eye, and the brown cat hair design is giving furry vibes LOL I think there could be a way to make it look cute, but for me, those designs aren't it... But I will say the talking animations are fine, I actually like those and I imagine disney would have done something like that if they had kept the game running, it may just take a bit for the community to get used to it

      as long as they keep toons in that cartoony squash-and-stretch animation style, and not just "cog animations but retrofitted onto toons", then they can make toons as animated as they want.
      otherwise, these changes will continue to make some people uncomfortable due to the style change away from the cartoons the game has represented since it's existence.

    • @tamamotube3964
      @tamamotube3964 8 месяцев назад

      @@tamamotube3964 from what few sneak peeks they've shared, the talking animations and such look near identical to the animations they gave to the remade lawbots. lifeless movement that's polar opposite of the exaggerated animations you see in most classic cartoons.
      im hopeful that the final product will be a lot better, but as for the more realistic toon visuals there's a good chance that part stays in. we'll just have to see if that makes toontown feel less like a cartoon town and more like a 3D illustration.
