Dejounte Murray - Crafty Creator (Violent Crosses)

- Dejounte Murray. 2022 NBA All-Star. 2018 NBA All-Defensive Second Team. Through 55 games, Murray is averaging 19.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, 9.3 assists (currently tied for 3rd with Trae Young and behind only Chris Paul and James Harden), 2.0 steals (leads the league) per game - all career highs on an also career high usage (30.9% per CTG).
Dejounte Murray’s defensive prowess is well-documented but this video is meant to showcase just a little bit of what he does on the other side of the ball. Dejounte has developed a rather vicious crossover - the violence and velocity with which he snaps that ball to get into his midrange jumper is just gorgeous. Murray managing to master the midrange will be its own video but there’s a whole lot of that in this one too. The footwork is as fundamental as one can expect to see in San Antonio. The spin + fake spin and/or reverse pivot counters are pristine. The floater is pretty phenomenal. Add in the fact that the Rainier Beach High School alum seems to be growing as the closer for the Spurs? Well, you've got the makings of a pretty magnificent player.
Tempting as it may be to throw out Tony Parker comps because of the offensive load carried by a Gregg Popovich point guard, there’s lots of time for Dejounte to grow into a role or carve out his own.
I'm not saying he got it from DeMar DeRozan but getting to be with DeMar for 3 years might have accelerated the growth of that middy magic Murray has...but then again, his teammates in his very first year in the league were Kawhi Leonard, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili, LaMarcus Aldridge, and Pau Gasol.
Per Cleaning the Glass, of the 983 shots DJ has attempted, 51% of them have come from midrange (490 FGA + 10 fouls drawn), 21% of them have come from deep (209 FGA), and 28% of them have come at the rim (232 FGA + 42 fouls drawn).
His conversion rate, however, showed he was best at the rim - 64%, decent from the midrange - 43%, and while he did hit 38% of his corner 3s, he’s still only at 32% from 3 overall. He’s also only attempted 2.9 free throws per game.
As of early February, he became the first player in franchise history to put up a 25+ point, 10+rebound, and 15+assist game.
All clips from the first 55 games of the 2021/22 season. I was originally planning on coming out with this before All-Star but life got in the way . . . and sometimes when I don't get it out in time, I'm discouraged against putting it out.
TLDR: I did a lot of work early, got busy in the middle, and now it is is a little late, but here it is!

I know this will be tough! Thanks for another upload! I knew when he was drafted he would be a star, Jamal Crawford taught him well!
Murray is so talented. He just keeps getting better over the years 🔥
Thank the heavens for basketball nerds who go through a thousand hours of film so I can watch my favorites do work for 9 minutes. You can see a lot of Crawford's smoothness in his stop and go, step back, and dropoff moves.
A more coordinated Jamal Crawford
Dejountay Murray is tough. Been waiting for dude to finally reach his potential. Him an SGA have similar games.
You have to be an okc fan to say something like that
as an okc fan, dejounte is way better than sga
@@jaydenwelchhh still think that?
Been wat hing the comps since high school you helped my game a lot man appreciate the years of work
That's why I do it!
All I ever wanted even back when I hooped was to find highlights that were actually good to study (progressions of moves, etc) instead of just all the regular stuff that's out there. Glad I could help in some way 🙏🏽
@@EvinGualberto mission accomplished these videos are responsible for basically my full progression of moves from the post to perimeter. Just pickup games but real hooper know it's a life of progress and getting better even though you will never be paid to play
His game has become so much more refined, he always had that quickness, great vision, and that first step, but his handle has tightened, his finishing is more polished and his footwork is so much better. Seeing his progression is amazing!
Glad seeing you do these again!
He always had handles they were just unsteady. This year it seems like he's in control. I'm excited for next year, he is a hard worker and an underrated pg.
He lives and scores in the paint, his favourite spot is the top of the key like another Spurs PG : Murray is an athletic and defensively skilled version of Parker.
I love that Dejounte Murray is on my favorite team.
not anymore lol
@@BenDover-vg9ep lol
Glad your back
Spurs drafted another great guard. Every year he adds something to his game.
Your descriptions are the best
Lol. Evin Gualberto 2022-. Dynamite describer (ultrasonic uploader). I stole "ultrasonic uploader" from a fellow commentor.
basically averaging 20.8.9 with 2.0 steals future superstar
Hey man I've been a fan of the channel for years and I was wondering something. I love the way you format your videos to showcase certain skill sets and I was wondering would you ever do a lockdown series for Gary Payton? Nobody has one like it and i think we'd all love one you make! Love the channel regardless man keep doing your thing
Oh man. Well first, thanks very much!
Second, I do have a whole bunch of folders of vintage players that I'm slowly gathering clips of. The problem with me and the players I watched growing up is that I know there's so much more out there and I feel this NEED to do it completely right (by my standards) or I can't make it at all and so far, I just don't have enough yet.
HOPEFULLY one day!
Welcome to ATL!
last dunk got me sweaty
violently underrated
Murray nice af! One of my fav players. Love his game 🔥
Spurs need one last piece, hopefully a nice big
I know right, a 7'4" shot blocker who can pass, dribble, shoot and catch lobs would be so nice
Mr.Jania sure could hoop
0:53 the step-through here is NASTY
Is it just me or does Murray got that lowkey KD player build? Super long arms, slim frame with a handle and a J 🔥
Lol he's small but as a PG he's got an advantage with most matchups. Strong PG gives him trouble but he'll figure it out.
becoming my new fav player
now all we need is an ant man upload, im sure one is otw ;)
Mr. triple double
Thanks for this
