  • Jimmy Butler. 5x NBA All-Star. 3x All-NBA Third Team. 4x All-Defensive Second Team. 2015 NBA Most Improved Player. 2016 Olympic Gold medalist. Culture setter. When he joined the Miami Heat, it was to a cacophony of scoffs from those who covered the league because many viewed that move as anti-winning...man, were they wrong.
#HeatCulture + Jimmy Butler = a trip to the NBA Finals.
Jimmy is just the jack of all trades. World class defender. Surprising offensive rebounder (especially given his wingspan). Crafty playmaker. Master of the midrange. He’s ELITE at getting to the free throw line. His shooting foul percentage (the percentage of a player’s shot attempts that he’s fouled on) was in the 99th percentile for wings in the regular season and in the 100th percentile during the playoffs. There’s very little Jimmy cannot do.
His foundation is his phenomenal footwork. He’s got the poise and patience to pivot and pump, and twist, and then rip through and power to the paint. He can use his force or finish with finesse; he’ll go any way he needs in order to get to the basket, whether that’s under the defender, over, around, or even through them. He’s got the ability to hit from distance, his post game is pretty with the pristine pivoting he does, but he can also go full bully ball. Speaking of, he’s an absolute bull when he wants to get to the rim. He can score any kind of way, so as a defense, all you have to do is make him take the toughest shot possible…the only problem is, yeah, he can make those with worryingly regularity as well. He is Jimmy G Buckets after all, the G STILL stands for gets.
Mike Prada wrote a brilliant piece about how Jimmy Butler overpowers bigger opponents. He talks about Butler’s unparalleled lower body strength.
“Butler’s lower-body strength manifests itself in two places. For one, his natural resting position is much lower to the ground than his opponents, which allows him to make short-burst movements in traffic while staying on balance. It’s like there’s an invisible chair holding his body in place at all times.”

    - also subscribe to Mike’s substack. It is BRILLIANT.
You’ll see quite a bit of Jimmy’s patented face up shimmy move, I have a quick video highlighting just that here: • Jimmy Butler - Face Up...

Doesn't waste any dribbles, just puts his head down and goes straight to work taking what the defense gives him, plus he's a disruptive defender and he is EXTREMELY clutch man, why he's my favorite player... Jimmy G. Buckets the "G" stands for GETS!!!

I don’t blame anyone who thought PG was that dude. Because of his repertoire he was marketed better. I would want to believe that he has just been underachieving this year. Great body balance in air. Uses his body strength so well and so often while driving. His obvious work ethic and his challenging but unique personality makes him a good leader. I'm happy for guys like bam, herro and robinson because they get to grow with jimmy G buckets. One of my fav players

its crazy how he used to miss wide open layups in his first three years. dude shyed away from dribbling the ball. even from when he was the mip, he played more of a perimeter game with lots of midrange jumpers. its understated how much he improves every year. hes always been at the top of offensive box plus minus year in year out but people always look to the flashy players first before giving butler any looks. all this while maintaining being an all defensive player; jimmy is the definition of your monster versatile captain.

When teams stop his drives he just does a reverse pivot shirt jumper or layup in the lane. If teams sag off of him he can shoot that short jumper off the glass. Jimmy might shoot far long 2s once in a while but of his shots are in the paint even those short jumpers that are considered midrange shots are in the paint
