I was also a Nikon shooter for a lot of years but after seeing examples of the image quality of the Sony A7RV I just had to switch. Regrets? Only 1, I need a faster laptop to process the 61 megapixel images.
In 2007, I started using Canon 5d mk1, and instantly fell in love with it. Even after trying Sony, Panasonic, and Fujifilm, my love for Canon remains strong. The simplicity and wide range of lenses they offer are unparalleled. I have decided to switch back to Canon next week.
I was about to take the Sony A7IV! Another beast! 😍 And thank you so so much Timothy. I really appreciate your amazing feedback. Thanks for being here! 😊
I also switched from Canon to Sony and I love it. As Laura said, listen to your needs. You can't go wrong with any of the brands quality wise but other aspects like customizability plays bigger role. Sony is extraordinary in low light so it might be an important factor for some. Super fast and reliable autofocus helps with video too. All in all I love it :)
I fell in love with Canon after holding a 5Diii for the fist time... that simple big wheel and huge bright viewfinder....I've had canon in my heart ever since. The new Sony cameras are amazing too and I can see why you switched, especially for better ibis on upcoming travel videos 💙
I stuck with Canon because 1.) I already had a little bit of money in the EF Lenses. 2.) The 28-70mm f/2L I am really looking forward to the R5 MK II because CanonRumors says it's supposed to be 60 MP.
It is a breath of fresh air to see a female photographer here on RUclips. I am just beginning and learning. I purchased the Sony A7R5. Would you mind sharing your autofocus settings? I am having a hard time nailing focus when my granddaughters are in action. Thank you.
For the last 14 years I have shot Sony. I don't remember not one instance where a client came to me and said that the color science was off. Nor have I ever had a client come and tell me that my camera looked like a toy or that it didn't seem to fit my hand well. The point that I'm making is that all of the people who come up with these insane reasons to hate Sony would be better off focusing on becoming a more skilled photographer. Cuz at the end of the day that's what really matters. Thanks for making this video.
I was about to take the A7IV It’s an incredible camera! 😍 In the end I went for the A7RV so I don’t have to think about changing till many years to come. Both are beasts! 🥰
I shot professionally with Canon from 2003. I have now switched from Canon to Sony just because of external factors and opportunities. All things being equal I would have no reason to switch. I regret doing so in some ways - mainly ergonomics, but in the end my images are the same. The colour is no different if you know how to post process. Sony are more 'technical' cameras whereas Canon feel more like you are using the heritage of a company who know about film and the experience of photography. In the end if you learn the camera and get your muscle memory there is no difference between any make - it's up to you to learn the tool and get the most out of it. If you get the most out of any manufacturer, your ability will shine through. I am taking the best photos I have ever taken with Sony, but that is because I have more years of experience and not due to brand.
I couldn’t agree more with this! I still love Canon. All the brands are incredible when knowing how to use them. Thank you for sharing such a nice and realistic feedback. ❤️
I have also made a switch from Canon to Sony two weeks ago, and I absolutely don't regret it especially since I didn't have much Canon camera gear to begin with since I just got my canon dslr back in the beginning of this year. And I absolutely agree with you on Color Science, because I mainly got Canon because of it, and now I got a Sony and I barely notice any difference. Sony a7ii that I have, has better low light performance, better image stabilization, more lens compatibility, that color science was not a deal breaker for me. (but I must say that I miss the fully articulating touch screen from my canon t6i)
Hi Laura, Thank you for this video! I am currently on Nikon Z and I am so emotionally attached to it that I don't want to leave it. But, my needs as a photographer have changed and I am now a social media manager which means I have to create video content. So I am considering the new A7C II. I haven't stopped thinking about it all day and now that I have watched your video I feel way more relaxed about it. You are so correct with the fact you can change and manipulate stuff in post to get them how you want... that it doesn't really matter what you shoot with any more. Thanks!
I shoot on an R6 Mark II but I tried my friends Lumix S5 ii a few weeks ago and honestly I thought it was pretty good. Especially for the price, and the L mount has some pretty great glass.
And then came along the Canon R1 and R5 Mk II Is it really worth the effort and cost to switch systems? No matter how many times we jump ship at some stage something better will always appear on the other side 😵💫
I really enjoy your videos , I'm recently subscribed to your channel and find you very easy to listen to, as someone who's just starting with photography you have great advice . Thanks Laura keep up the great work .
It is interesting to see how different creators choose their gear and as you say: choose what ever suits your purpose best. Ones in a while I am debating with myself switching to sony but the one thing which keeps me away from it is very simple. They do not offer, at least for the cameras I do consider, a complete functional touchscreen. Of course Color science is another topic as I do not grade a lot in post, but I think I could deal with that. But not being able to change in video mode quickly some different settings is something I do not like… Also, when I compared my R7 screen with the A7c from a good friend it seems the sony screen did not show the Color accurate. From Canon I get what I see on the flip screen, with sony, at least it seems, i do not. Thanks for sharing your experience, keep up the good work, saludos desde Alemania
Ergonomics, I used to have Canon DSLR cameras, yes ok ergonomics, but too big and heavy when hiking for a day, I have very large hands and I have NO problems with Sony ergonomics, I love the small and light Sony Cameras, easy to carry for a whole day. As all new menus and settings can be difficult, but when you get to now Sony and make your own custom settings and use the fb button, no problems.
Love your channel! Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like you actually switched from an older Canon DSLR to a modern Sony mirrorless. That's a huge jump in technology and a big difference. It's not exactly an apples to apples comparison.
Thank you so much! 😍 This is not a comparison between a DSLR or a mirrorless. It’s my very personal opinion about my switch and how I feel about the things I mentioned. I own the 5DMKIV. But I did use Canon mirrorless cameras like the R6 and R5. 🥰 I should have mentioned it in the video but I have 2 full videos talking about it. 😄 Big hug from London! :)
The 5D mark 4 can take stunning images just as any mirrorless..... I was at a outside party and the photographer had a R5 an took me and a friends photo i took some pictures same day in the parking lot with my 6D mk 2 my pics blew away the R5...... Maybe it was his lens idk but i expected much more
@@romelmurdock4187whilst there are improvements in sensor technology most of the improvements are in the autofocus and video department so at the end of the day it’s the photographer that makes an image though technology makes it easier.
You should have mentioned the variety of Sony and third-party lenses for E-mount. I recently bought the Sony a6700 and the 24 mm 1.4 Sigma art to get a 36 mm full-frame equivalent, and for that price point, I'm impressed with the result of that 26 sensor coming from the FX30. The AI autofocus is absolutely amazing! I shoot a lot of portraits, and the human recognition with the 759 focus points helps you to focus more on the composition.
I already have 2 long videos talking about that and more . The third party lenses, the IBIS, the autofocus, and all the reasons why I switched. 😊 So happy to hear that you’re loving your A6700! 😍
As one who comes from a film background I hate fiddling with menus. I hate the slow start up times of digital cameras. I hate autofocus an ingenious solution to a non existent problem. I do not really enjoy post, it's just a tedious chore, but so is darkroom work. I do like the memory cards and the huge number of images that can be taken. I've zero experience with video so have no opinion and can't personally think of anything I would want to record on video.

Why does every single canon RUclips photographer switch to Sony?
because the system suits content creation more in both cameras and lenses.
Because the lenses are cheaper, and because Canon banned 3rd party lenses (now, they're letting some lens brands produce some lenses, though).
Why terrified? Sony is much much better than Sony.. Sony is the first mirrorless to have eye-auto focus, and then the rest just followed it 😅😁 truths!
