One of the most splendid viewpoints in all of Sri Lanka is found at Lipton’s Seat in Haputale. Sir Lipton Thomas the Scottish tea baron used to gaze at his booming empire from this point every morning. Thomas Lipton moved to Sri Lanka (formally known as Ceylon) in 1890 where he was introduced to James Taylor. Together they established tea gardens and launched a business operation that would outlive them both. In the modern-day, you can witness the grand tea estates and verdant green hills spread across seven different provinces. There’s also a life-size statue on his estate dedicated to this adventurous businessman. The industry has since burgeoned and Lipton tea is recognized worldwide and people still drink it today.
