Kind of wish I never got rid of my plastic instruments. I got the itch to play RB again, and even the guitar and game alone are running above $200 on the aftermarket, and I can't find any store that still carries any. Funny how only 5 years ago, you could walk into a Wal-Mart or a Gamestop, and they had huge deals just to try to get rid of all the Rock Band and Guitar Hero stuff they had laying around.
I'm so disappointed with both GH Live's soundtrack and Rock Band's. Uptown Funk? Really? I realize that they had to make it for a wider audience, but I feel like they alienated us longtime RB/GH fans. I discovered my love for metal and grunge from these games. The amount of old school metal in these games are non-existant. Oh yeah, and they have a Skrillex song. Kill me now.
+Jerry Mcghoulberry That meme is retarded. You're misinterpreting the Pokemon review by not actually reading/watching it and by taking it completely out of context.
Man I remember back in 2010 when music games were super fatigued and on their way out. Glad that five years later guitar hero and rock band are making a comeback. Hopefully we don't get over saturated this time again.

suezotiger Harmonix is working on getting wired instruments to work. In fact, IONs already work on PS4, and they should have them working on Xbox One any week now.
Sounds good to me, I have so much dlc and songs transferred from other rock band games that I can add to the library. Online play doesn't mean much to me because the only time I play it is when I have a bunch of friends over
+Pickle312 Pretty much this exactly. I never understood the desire to play Rock Band online. If you're not there for me to interact with, then I might as well be playing solo, except that somebody else can lose for me. No appeal there what-so-ever.
+[technologic] Riiiiight tell that to people working in game stores. I know for a fact all the Gamestops in my town are having serious scarcity problems, and are all planning midnight launch events because of the sheer number of preorders.... so clearly nobody cares. +lilhaze34 No, however December 8 is the first major update. It will add more social features as well as new modes. Online play could come then or likely early 2016.

If I'm going to play a game with guitars, I'd choose Rocksmith. But out of the two fake guitar games, Guitar Hero Live atleast offers a much better setlist straight away and a new presentation.
+Shendowx Oops, you're right Shendow. But still, the guitarists are more or less competing with each other. It's not the same full band co-op experience like Rock Band.
+TrickedOutGames this rock band is the same that is pretty bad, mine as well play rock band 3 cause the playlist sucks in this one, I like guitar hero lives way better just an opinion
If you’re coming to view this video now, RB4 does have online play now, but only if you purchase the Rivals expansion pack. Now this setlist isn’t the best, but there are still some kickass songs on the main disc! Plus if you bought export keys for RB1 and RB2, that will be available for you to export into this game! Plus the addition of the RB3 export, this game has a lot of diversity in song selection. DLC previously purchased on a 360 or PS3 is also available to get back on the Xbox One or PS4. In my opinion, it’s a great comeback from Harmonix!
+Nonstopper™ Except you obviously didn't (or are deliberately ignoring things to suit the narrative you want to create) because you're ignoring A LOT of new and changed features that make it very clearly NOT a port.
Rock Band 3 does not have freestyle guitar solos, dynamic drum fills, freestyle vocals, a proper campaign/tour mode, shows mode, new DLC won't be coming to RB3, you have to pull out your old console to play RB3, etc. That enough?
So here's what I got out of this. The "new" part of the game fails. But the party atmosphere that's been there forever is what makes it good. Or great. So if you've continued to play Rock Band frequently until now, like I have, there's no need to get this yet, as it is a letdown. Nice job. High score for nostalgia, that never left to begin with.
Ordered the full band edition off of EBay, cannot wait for it to come. So excited to play The Doors :D Honestly, Id on't mind DLC for music games. It's the ONLY time a video game should ever have it. It means you can play for ages and it just expands it.
+OutlawTorn14 Yes, as long as you previously exported them already. They don't have it working yet but they will soon. We're assuming they will transfer like DLC where you must redownload each individual track. Harmonix is currently working on getting Rock Band 3 to export as well!
Was there any follow up to the idea that you could bring your PS3/360 songs over (Only PS3 to PS4 and 360 - XBONE) as well as using the old controllers?
Technical question about RB4: You know the Wii guitar that you use by connecting a USB thing to the wii, that you use without a Wii remote? can I use that on my PS4 if I want to play rockband 4?
How the hell do I turn off the background music during songs. Putting the slider doesn't do anything and I just want to hear the song while I play but the background music is louder.
Ehhhh, I dunno. Think I'm gonna pass on this and pick up Disgaea 5 and Transformers instead. The soundtrack was awful imo. The others were so great to the point where I really didn't need DLC. But this is just...I dunno. Too poppy, hipsterish, mainstream, radio, indie music. And it just seems like there is less this time around. The song menu seems really dull in comparison to RB3, no keyboard, you don't see your band members chilling and setting things up, pro guitar is gone, and no online(seriously, wtf?) You're supposed to add to sequels, not take away. If they don't let us...lettuce import RB3 songs, I'm just going to pass on this.
So i bought rock band 1 on ps2. And RB2 and RB3 on ps3. Gonna get RB4 on ps4. Is there any way to get the old songs onto the ps4 game or will i have to buy them all over again
+TheEvilPanda The full band set includes the new/improved instruments which are 1 guitar, 1 drums, 1 microphone, and the game disc itself for $249.99. You can also buy just the new guitar and game disc for $129.99. Lastly, if you still have your old instruments, you can just buy the game disc!
Yes, Guitar Hero: Live is coming October 20th. However, it is changing the formula quite a bit from past games, which music video backgrounds, an online network, etc.
***** It's not out yet but I played some of it at an event and it's filled to the brim with shitty pop, along with the weird music video presentation, and the redesigned black and white buttons...it's just weird now. It doesn't feel right, and never having to move your hands makes it feel even weirder
For people that think rock smith is better (and I don't know why), rock band is a game usually played at parties and most of all, for fun. Rock smith is more of an instructional game with how to play a guitar. Also, a lot of people say how guitar hero has a better set list, which is why there is dlc, which at release should cost a buck per pop. Not to mention, that dlc is also transferred. I don't have anything against guitar hero or rock smith, it's just that people don't think about how different the games are. Especially since harmonix worked on the first few guitar heroes then moved to rock band with MTV.
Harmonix made a mistake by moving with mtv, now they have no back up and don't even have online even though guitar hero was bitching and throwing money at them they decided to make a cartoony, easy as hell, arcade guitar simulated
Swablu 123 They said "rock band will release with online features still in the works." I don't know why they didn't release the game with online multiplayer in the first place.
+aftershock0 No? Even the original Rock Band had day one DLC. It is the nature of the genre and makes more sense to have DLC songs rather than release new discs every year.
wait why isn't lack of online the main negative? My most memorable moments was playing with friends online since we aren't close enough to get together and play.
+ChocoboWarrior091 Harmonix has hinted that online play will be coming at a later date. Rock Band has always been about playing locally as a band! Online play likely wasn't included at launch due to Harmonix being an indie company now, and not having the budget with EA/MTV that they had before.
The new guitar is more durable, has a better overdrive tilt sensor, has a better auto-calibration sensor, and generally has better feeling buttons overall.
+NT In terms of "feeling cheap" it's really no different. By and large it feels exactly the same, but the insides are far better. TOG already listed a bunch of ways, but I also find that the buttons and strum bar give you a lot less "click" so it gives you a more organic, fluid type of feel than like you'd hitting a series of switches, which I consider to be a pretty big improvement.
NO ONLINE MULTIPLAYER?!?!! Wow... I'm so glad I found this out the day before picking this game up! I was really looking forward to getting the online band back together, and removing online multiplayer seems like such a middle finger to long time fans.
Harmonix is an indie company now. They used to have EA and MTV backing them up, so now they don't have the resources for online play at launch. It will be coming later in an update though.
Two pros are "4-Player is a blast," and "Party friendly setup?" Isn't it like that with every Rock Band? Why would you keep giving the game points for the same thing. Deduct points for being repetitive instead.
+NinjaPhilosophy Harmonix has hinted that online play will be coming at a later date. Rock Band has always been about playing locally as a band! Online play likely wasn't included at launch due to Harmonix being an indie company now, and not having the budget with EA/MTV that they had before.
+TrickedOutGames Harmonix said they were going for a base to throw dlc and updates at for the foreseeable future, and they're usually really good about feedback, so maybe they'll fix some of these issues AND add online.
+TrickedOutGames gotta admit though it is a blessing in disguise in some kind of sense.....I mean if the game was unfinished as some people claim and it was not by the help of EA...just imagine if EA was in the mix, I mean after all, EA does have a reputation of pushing out unfinished games (cough) battlefield (cough) oh excuse me...
MrViral20 Yeah but we think the benefits of EA outweigh the cons. With EA, the graphics would probably be better, much larger marketing for the game, possibly cheaper instrument bundles, better on-disc setlist, etc.
I'll wait until someone hacks into the files and rips the charts and songs for Phase Shift and download the RB4 setlist for Phase Shift for free (or at least my favorite songs, but there aren't many songs on the setlist that I know, but I hope there are enough challenging/hard songs). I already dished out $100 on GHL and I don't want to spend an extra $250 on RB4 for PS4 (and I have Xbox 360 RB instruments and I don't know if certain Xbox 360-to-PS3 controller converter are compatible with instrumental controllers).
They should add "Fallujah - Sapphire, The Night Reveals, Enslaved Eternal Phenomenon, Cerebral Hybridization, and Venom Upon The Blade" to the track list!
It's so awful how you've forgotten about the absence of pro instruments. That was the best thing the series had ever done, with the possibility to make 7 players parties, but no, 4 players again with basic controllers with a better campaign means better for you? Terrible
no online modes at all? As someone who 100% RB2 and 3 the online component is what kept me playing. Also the whole free-style solo thing is ResidentSleeper.
Trying to decide between rock band and guitar hero. Looks like guitar hero is winning. Huge upgrade! Besides, everyone just wants to play the drums anyways. I don't usually buy games with no real replay value. Rock band is great for playing it over and over but when you are being constantly challenged and offered something new every day or week, hour....guitar hero wins and I think it should have gotten a better vote than rock band. Looks like the same to me. They focused more on just the songs than actually wanting to keep people playing it for years to come with new content.
i havent played rockband since number 2, does anyone know if there are free dlc songs on rockbands store? and also howmuch do they cost for dlc, cause the setlist it launches with sucks ass
+DukeMedia Your old DLC will transfer within the same console-family. "I Still Believe" by Frank Turner is free in the store. All songs are $1.99 or most come in 3-packs for $5.49.
I don't like how you need the DLC for the tour mode to be substantial, but if it's the DLC you probably already bought years ago, then one cannot complain.
Why so much hate? The game looks solid. Freestyle solos, all the songs from previous rock band games (if you own them), an awesome campaign, and Harmonix is going to keep adding new features and they're probably going to add online multiplayer. Chill, people.
Guitar hero and rock band are still fun even after you know how to play an instrument. just sayin
Like it since gh3
Expert at the drums after 5 years of practice yeah once you get the hang at all of it, it gets fun playing online with others.
The guitar feels harder than real guitar at times

You heard it here first.
+Cole Phelps A lot better than just having what's on the disk and nothing else. I'd rather have optional cheap DLC than none at all
It is great in this sense! It adds more variety to the Tour mode, and allows you to fill your Music Library with only songs you want.
I heard that it costs thousands of dollars to purchase all the DLCs...and you think that's cheap?
+Cole Phelps I think it's because the DLC from previous games imports automatically into your RB game for free.
+Cole Phelps Gotta love the "I don't care if it makes sense, I hate all DLC cause it's DLC" bots.

Cool, but Rocksmith isn't very fun in party situations or if you want to have lots of people playing.
Get guitar hero live atleast it has online gameplay unlike this game
+TrickedOutGames but rocksmith will teach you how to play so u can be that fun guy at the party lol
***** at least guitar hero has online multiplayer unlike this game and guitar hero live has a better soundtrack
+TrickedOutGames Exactly. One is a party game and fantasy simulator, one is a teaching tool. It's apples and oranges, really.
cant even buy the instruments to play this game without spending hundreds besides the microphone smh

+Shendowx Fair enough. Guitar Hero: Live should be a great game as well!
Looks like the same shit we played five years ago
+Blackcoop It is, just less songs.
What's wrong with that? What we had 5 years ago was great! They made more changes here than each year's Call of Duty, Madden, etc

+Spartacus321 it;'s nostalgic and it's funny when you tell them you do and play this because their "argument" becomes invalid
+Mario121692 yep. or one of my favorites, "why do you play call of duty? lrn2reenwar."
Spartacus321 Is that shit serious because that's hilarious.
+Mario121692 well that's one of the lines I use as a rebuttal whenever someone says lrn2reelgtar
Spartacus321 Love it
So do you have to buy the DLC? If so are they all the songs that were on all the other rock bands?
Give me a reason not to just pull out Rock Band 3 instead?
Rock Band 3 does not have freestyle guitar solos, dynamic drum fills, freestyle vocals, a proper campaign/tour mode, shows mode, new DLC won't be coming to RB3, you have to pull out your old console to play RB3, etc. That enough?
Exactly.
or all the rockbands
New console and works much better with hdtvs that enough sold me
I'm so furious about not having piano... 😡
The pro instruments are missing and that's A HUGE step backwards

Mr. Mojo Risin' I just ordered it three days ago it's gonna arrive tomorrow can't wait!!!
Mr. Mojo Risin' is it worth buying?
Can RB 1 and 2 songs be added to the list? If so how will that work?
+OutlawTorn14 Yes, as long as you previously exported them already. They don't have it working yet but they will soon. We're assuming they will transfer like DLC where you must redownload each individual track. Harmonix is currently working on getting Rock Band 3 to export as well!

My Rock Band 4 review: Get Fallout 4.
Or be a true gamer and get both
+bcsd21 I already did lol
+bcsd21 i have both and i like both. they're totally different games though that is trueeeee
My biggest concern with having a ton of DLC is hard drive space and the fact that companies like Comcast are imposing data caps.
Was there any follow up to the idea that you could bring your PS3/360 songs over (Only PS3 to PS4 and 360 - XBONE) as well as using the old controllers?
Yes. All your DLC from 360-One and PS3-PS4 carry forward. Legacy instruments work too, however a $25 adapter is required for the Xbox One version.
KaiserSoze679 nah. I'm not deluded haha.
RB4 has changed a LOT since release. Practice mode was added, and online play coming in January. HYPE!
Also, revamped UI (kinda).
The Turbo did they say something about online after promising it for this month?
+LegendOfFinn Well, Harmonix hates us and delayed it, so yeah.
The Turbo isn't it rivals?
The Turbo I know right!!! Swear best feature is the layout of the songs and being able to make a playlist :D
So if you bought a lot of dlc songs in the old rock bands can you download them on this one?
I just here to look at the comments
Ditto :D
does the beatles rock band DLC work on rb4?

I could call you 6 for playing with plastic toy instruments.
+Blandrew disgaea 5 is AMAZING. You will not be disappointed.
Miles Coleman
I did, it is definitely amazing. Contender for one of my games of the year. Along with Dragon Quest Heroes :)
Blandrew I think the quality of Dragon Quest heroes is overshadowed by everybody's desire for a real American version of the actual RPG.
So i bought rock band 1 on ps2. And RB2 and RB3 on ps3. Gonna get RB4 on ps4. Is there any way to get the old songs onto the ps4 game or will i have to buy them all over again
PapaKay You can export MOST songs yes
i just got the game and whenever i select RB1 songs it doesnt show a price and says to try again later. i think it expired
No online? Is it always going to be like that or are they gonna put it in later? This isn't a must buy for me if there isn't online.
It is coming later as an update. Harmonix is an indie company so they were unable to put every feature in at launch.
How much does it cost for the special controllers and the game
+TheEvilPanda the full box is $250
+TheEvilPanda The full band set includes the new/improved instruments which are 1 guitar, 1 drums, 1 microphone, and the game disc itself for $249.99. You can also buy just the new guitar and game disc for $129.99. Lastly, if you still have your old instruments, you can just buy the game disc!
Is there away you can delete the unwanted songs on Rock Band 4 for Xbox one?
is it going to be on mobile devices too?
How about Lego Rockband 2?
is there enough hard songs to buy day 1 at $60? or is it worth waiting?
There are 65 songs on disc. There's not really a use in waiting unless there is a particular song that's not already DLC you want in.
+Kyle's Game Room Off the top of my head I think there are 5 or 6 devil tiered guitar songs on disk.
You can still do pre-determined solos though, right? I don't want to do freeform solos if I'm honest. There's 5 buttons, it's not exactly rocksmith.
+MisterCreazil233 Freestyle Solos can be turned off, yes.
IF I already have the Guitar and the drums and the mic from Rock Band 2, does it works on rock band 4 or I have to buy another kit of instruments?

Ted Staidle plug in either a different controller or plug a mic in then unplug it
Does it still work? I reeeeally want to play it but for example Guitar hero doesn’t work anymore and that is so sad.
Simple idea - being able to create your own songs as a band and upload them to the Rock Band community. Re-playability
Do they have lefty guitars?
jagged_ banana Yes just flip the guitar

Lol the ign dream team looks kind of ridiculous
does the ion drum rocker for 360 work on this for xbox one? or maybe on ps4? (i know thats more doubtful)
Yeah but you need an adaptor for the next gen consoles. If you have the one for 360, it can only go with the Xbox One. Vice versa for PS3 to PS4
+RedSoakedSponge As of now it works on the PS4, Xbox One they are still working on.
thanks for the information guys. My ideal situation would be to be able to use my 360 rocker on my ps4 but beggars cant be choosers lol.
So as long as you spend a bunch more money on dlc it's a great game?
the prices of this is absurd.... and its 90% dlc... none of this is ok
song name at 1:50?
Panama, Van Halen. Sorry you had to wait so long buddy…
@@AllHailTheKang it was well worth the wait
wait why isn't lack of online the main negative? My most memorable moments was playing with friends online since we aren't close enough to get together and play.
+ChocoboWarrior091 Harmonix has hinted that online play will be coming at a later date. Rock Band has always been about playing locally as a band! Online play likely wasn't included at launch due to Harmonix being an indie company now, and not having the budget with EA/MTV that they had before.
Hows the guitar? The last one felt so cheap.
Is it copy right if I upload a rock band 4 video on RUclips?
NO ONLINE MULTIPLAYER?!?!! Wow... I'm so glad I found this out the day before picking this game up! I was really looking forward to getting the online band back together, and removing online multiplayer seems like such a middle finger to long time fans.
Harmonix is an indie company now. They used to have EA and MTV backing them up, so now they don't have the resources for online play at launch. It will be coming later in an update though.
What about online play like Rockband 2? =(
VERDICT
Pros: Metropolis - Part 1
Cons: Every oder song
Two pros are "4-Player is a blast," and "Party friendly setup?" Isn't it like that with every Rock Band? Why would you keep giving the game points for the same thing. Deduct points for being repetitive instead.
NO ONLINE PLAY??? 8.8/10????!?! (Kanye West voice) "HOW!!!?!!" Nah bruh I'm sticking with Rock Band 2! Which is the best one in my opinion.
Can you still buy songs online?
Yes
No online coop. No purchase

+TrickedOutGames Harmonix said they were going for a base to throw dlc and updates at for the foreseeable future, and they're usually really good about feedback, so maybe they'll fix some of these issues AND add online.

gotta admit though it is a blessing in disguise in some kind of sense.....I mean if the game was unfinished as some people claim and it was not by the help of EA...just imagine if EA was in the mix, I mean after all, EA does have a reputation of pushing out unfinished games (cough) battlefield (cough) oh excuse me...
MrViral20 Yeah but we think the benefits of EA outweigh the cons. With EA, the graphics would probably be better, much larger marketing for the game, possibly cheaper instrument bundles, better on-disc setlist, etc.
so all the songs that I bought before for the ps3 could be play on ps4 could anybody answer this question
You get an additional 30 songs for pre ordering the game, so really there are around 100 songs already on the game if you preordered it like me :D
No online? :(
Picking up the Band-In-A-Box bundle tomorrow morning! Can't wait!
+Brendan Lewis Awesome! Hope you have a blast, Brendan!
this game literally had 0 promotion i haven't heard anything since e3
It's so awful how you've forgotten about the absence of pro instruments.
That was the best thing the series had ever done, with the possibility to make 7 players parties, but no, 4 players again with basic controllers with a better campaign means better for you?
Terrible
Can someone tell me if I can play with Xbox Controller? In my country there are no gqmes stores selling the guitar
No
Order offline from Amazon or Game stop's website
It is 1000X better than gh live. i extremely regreat buying it.
why? gh live is on sale and the plastic guitar seems nicer
is this game good in single player? cuz I don't have guys to play with. even if so. they will be rookies.
So... the game is worth buying? Because games where i live is like 250,00 dollars.
+Ary Sobral it is if you have a back catalogue ready and there's a software version so you don't have to buy the band bundle if you don't want
+Ary Sobral You are probably better off buying a real instrument, mate.
Ruck Bend Feur?
no online modes at all?
Instruments not compatible with new Xbox one preview program.
This game is missing so many features from previous games theres no reason why it should get more than an 8. I'll probably hold off until the update
i havent played rockband since number 2, does anyone know if there are free dlc songs on rockbands store? and also howmuch do they cost for dlc, cause the setlist it launches with sucks ass
I think he already said previously he preferred Guitar Hero Live
Why so much hate? The game looks solid. Freestyle solos, all the songs from previous rock band games (if you own them), an awesome campaign, and Harmonix is going to keep adding new features and they're probably going to add online multiplayer. Chill, people.
Half of the setlist is Dlc or locked to pre orders.
Those are extra songs. The setlist is 65 songs, all of which are on disc.
No mention that previously purchased DLC carries over to this game
How is there no online multiplayer???
I can't believe playing online was the least used feature of the previous games.
Can you play alone?
No online play? why take that out?
don't forget you can import previous rockband tracks
Lmao that U2 song that's on everybody's iPhone..
