I loved that for a violent movie The Suicide Squad wasn’t TOO violent, it didn’t take every single chance it had to be violent. The best thing about it by far is that every choice that is made throughout the movie by the filmmaker is the right choice. James Gunn really knows what he’s doing, not only with the content, but he knows exactly when to have comedy, when to have heart, when to have an action scene, how to have tension build between characters, how to use the budget and in what shots to blow money lol he reignited a spark for me to get reinvested in the dc universe or at least have hope for the future lol the writing for this is impeccable. Everyone had enough screen time. The cast was really good. The plot was insanely cool. Everything about it works. Edit: I read through some of the comments on this where people are saying it’s very violent and I totally agree. All that I’m saying is that for something that the majority of the audience expected to be violent, it could’ve been a lot more violent than it was. Or instead of a lot of violence taking place in rather dark settings it could’ve been in well lit environments most of the time, or even simply just having more gore which sounds extreme given how violent the movie actually is, but I still found it to be somewhat far less violent than a lot of other movies like it where there was just too much violence and was overall distasteful. I think it works here specifically because of the way it was incorporated to have meaning within the story, and not just be unnecessary violence being added to have violence, in fact it felt very purposeful here despite the fact that it could be considered unnecessary.

This is what I want for the DC films, creator driven movies. Like obviously find directors that actually like the characters they're working with but let them make the movie with little interference (but obviously not deviating too far from the core aspects of the characters).
I really liked the 2016 one's soundtracks tho like Heathens and Purple Lamborghini. And for some reason I f**king loved the Jared Leto Joker even though he was like the worst Joker ever.
its really what they doing now and im so happy . its all to blame on WB actually they hired a horrible director like snyder .his movies never had a hero we can relate or like .thats why DC failed and marvel succeeded . if we dont give af about the characters we gonna forget about the movie too . im glad they trynna reboot from that mess
Val was a tough watch for me, especially the Comic-Con footage. It's so sad that some of his best work came at the end of his career, and he's been robbed of it. I did appreciate some of the behind-the-scenes stuff. The Dr. Moreau, Mark Twain, and Batman backstories were compelling, and The Saint is criminally underrated. I'm curious to see how the Iceman story is treated in Top Gun: Maverick.

I saw an ad for Val on Facebook and immediately watched it. I haven't seen Val Kilmer in years and was floored by his appearance and voice. The documentary wrecked me because my dad had throat cancer years before passing away of pancreatic and the man I crushed on as a young girl watching movies now reminded me of my dad. It was a bizarre transition to realize just how sentimental and human Val really is. I particularly loved his monologue as Mark Twain when he said " all you need is confidence and ignorance ". I started my RUclips channel on my late dad's birthday with that same sentiment. I'm introverted and thought I could never be heard but Val's documentary really inspired me and touched me on a spiritual level. I truly won't be forgetting it anytime soon.
I felt the TSS was a substantial improvement compared to the original. Everyone was amazing in it. However, I personally felt that Daniela Melchior was the true star of The Suicide Squad.
Rat Catcher was definitely the heart of the movie. When Bloodsport shows up during her confrontation with you know who (don't want to spoil) I literally cheered

my one complaint is that the movie completely skipped over why flag was still working for waller. But otherwise I thought it was practically perfect and I hope it encourages studios to give directors more creative freedom.
Fun fact: The majority of the cast and crew of Suicide Squad (2016) got the tattoo "SKWAD" in honor of this film. The tattoos were even applied by some of the cast members, Margot Robbie and Will Smith.
I've been a huge fan of Val Kilmer since "Top Secret", "Willow", and "Real Genius". Definitely checking it out! As a huge Suicide Squad fan, this is so much better than than first movie. Love they used Starro (another favorite JLA villian)
I think Gunn also reverts to his Troma sensibilities at times, even so far as to have the cameo from Uncle Lloyd and The Toxic Avenger in the background of one of the scenes.
Val Kilmer is one of the faces of my era. Born in 1970, I was a teenager in the 80s. I just caught a movie yesterday, that I somehow missed when it came out in 1985. It was called "Top Secret" and it was so very 80's in it's goofiness, I felt like Val came to me here in 2021 in a time traveling DeLorean. He did the one, also, where he was the genius college kid. He gave us all of that silly stuff when we were teenagers where we got to stop thinking so damned much and take a break to laugh. And then he gave us the iconic roles. Make no mistake about it, it was he and Tom Cruise that put me in the Navy. He did Jim Morrison and...man oh man...perhaps his best role ever was the time he was everyone's "Huckleberry." And he was never a phony. He always made it clear to us that he HATED those roles. What is not to respect about a man who refuses to pander, and tells you the truth about how he feels? Moreover, what is not to respect about a man who delivers his level of excellence to jobs he hates? So, he made his money doing our stuff, and then he no longer had to work for a paycheck and was free to go out and start doing the stuff HE liked and wanted to do. That is a far cry from the whiny little kid who wants only to do his "art" while begging for other people to pay for his life. Done correctly, and making your own money to pay for your own life first, as Kilmer did it, that is not just "respectable," hell, that's the American Dream! Good for him! Now his health got in the way and he lost his voice. I am saddened by that, but for him and not for me. As far as I am concerned, Val doesn't owe us anything else. He has already earned his place in our anthology and I am just glad that it was his voice he lost and not his life. Enjoy the rest of your life, Val! You have nothing left to prove to us!
Hey Chris! You nailed a killer concept here: letting us know of smaller good films while waiting to hear about the famous stuff is genius! That's click-bait well made. More of that please sir!

Well said. I couldn't have said any better myself.
At no point did anything feel gratuitous; violence, language, emotional beats. Everything was earned and perfectly balanced

The Suicide Squad was a major improvement from it’s predecessor. It felt like each character had their own time to shine unlike the other movie. Heck, they made Polka-Dot Man of all people seem a lot more useful in this.

This is what I want for the DC films, creator driven movies. Like obviously find directors that actually like the characters they're working with but let them make the movie with little interference (but obviously not deviating too far from the core aspects of the characters).

Saw both of these this weekend. Had a great time with The Suicide Squad, and Val was such a gem.
I didn't like how Captain boomerang died tho...
Anytime someone say val I think of Val-Zod

Real Genius and Top Secret!

He did Jim Morrison and...man oh man...perhaps his best role ever was the time he was everyone's "Huckleberry."
And he was never a phony.
John Cena's acting chops impressed me the most, his comedy timing was spot on, probably years of killing it on the mic in WWE has helped him
Hey Chris! You nailed a killer concept here: letting us know of smaller good films while waiting to hear about the famous stuff is genius! That's click-bait well made. More of that please sir!
