This is an Any% No Major Glitches (NMG) speedrun which doesn't allow the use of two extremely game breaking glitches called Stale Reference Manipulation (SRM) and Arbitrary Code Execution (ACE). When these tricks were discovered, they compromised every main speedrun category of Majora's Mask to the point where changes needed to be made, leading to the birth of the NMG categories. These NMG categories are the most competitive today and are the ones that stay true to the originals that were ran before SRM and ACE were discovered. This run was played on the Wii VC version of the game.
The Any% NMG category is defined by completing the game from start to finish without any restrictions, which entails collecting the 4 boss remains along with oath to order, then going to the moon and defeating Majora.

Ennopp will forever be the MM champion. Dude literally almost always had WR, left to pursue a career to be a train conductor to help make more money for his new born son, comes back after years away and starts taking back WR. He’s the only other person I’d consider to be a goat of Zelda speedrunning other than ZFG. Love both those guys

This is the true embodiment of the Science and Art that is Majora's mask and how much more of a specialized Science it becomes as a speedrun.
Very few games can even approach this level of Science and all are excruciatingly difficult to master at any level remotely approaching this Majora's mask World record pace run.
It has taken me a long time to even understand the truly extreme nature of Majora's mask we are talking years and lots of effort.

Playing the game casually, I didn't know you could kill Goht with a bow. I always just did laps as a goron.
Man people who run MM are built different. All the cutscenes and high stakes spike my cortisol so much haha. Crazy stuff

Thank you for being extremely descriptive, and articulating all the things he was doing, how he was doing it, why, the various difficulties of the different glitches or exploits in contrast to each-other. SRM allows you to do ACE, like in oot, too right? you don't drive trains you operate them...

How is item manipulation not considered to be a major glitch? seems pretty major to me, especially compared to the other glitches used up until 1:17:38 a least lol.
yea i would agree it's a pretty powerful glitch, but i think the reasoning behind it not being grouped in "major glitches" is because it requires very specific circumstances to execute ,so it doesn't really compromise competitive categories which is partly why i think its allowed. ACE and SRM are so powerful that they make GIM not look major lol plus they're much more accessible within the game and compromise the game. its all arbitrary in the end

NMG is such a confusing title I literally never watched them thinking they were basically glitchless runs with sequence breaks.
Lowkey makes me want to get into majora's mask speedrunning but idk if I have what it takes to get a PHD in MM haha. May just leave it to the pros

well the glitches that accomplished the game breaking dubug stuff was also only possible on the wiiu version which fucked things up as well

SRM/ACE make the actual video game of Majora's Mask (and for that matter OoT) basically a formality. With the glitches permitted in NMG you are still engaging with many different mechanics and systems; even though you frequently circumvent them in broken and even jaw-dropping ways, these tricks have a fixed duration within the run itself and come in between actual negotiation of the game on something at least passingly similar to its intended terms. ACE in contrast allows you to turn almost everything memorable about the entire game circumventable.
That's not to say the any% run isn't a worthy category or a good test of skill. It's just the interesting parts of it are mostly why and how it works rather than witnessing it executed; watching it does not tend to resonate with people who connected with MM and played it as intended beyond a cursory "damn that's crazy" one-time watch.

did a majoras mask speedrunner just go on a monologue about how he likes games simple, easy, linear, and straightforward? look if thats the type of games he likes to each their own. that is fine, but he speedruns majoras mask. that game doesn't hold your hand, or even point you in the right direction it just says "fuck it you figure it out" i didnt beat the game till i was like 15 or 16. its the most confusing zelda in exsistance.
What? The game literally tells you where to go every few minutes if you don't make progress. But even setting all that aside, assume that it is actually in contention on that front... Zelda 1 and 2 both exist.
It is very ironic how he can't play a game like TOTK but will do the most insane ass backward glitches and stuff.
Tael tells you the 4 zones when you get the ocarina and then Tatl (maybe I got those backwards) will constantly remind you which one you should be going to next.
