  • www.democracyno... - Iraq War veteran Tomas Young was left paralyzed in a 2004 attack in Iraq. Released from medical care three months later, Young returned home to become an active member in Iraq Veterans Against the War. He recently announced that he will stop his medicine and nourishment, which comes in the form of liquid through a feeding tube -- a decision which will hasten his death. Joining us from his home in Kansas City, Young reads from his letter, "A Message to George W. Bush and Dick Cheney From a Dying Veteran." Young says to Bush and Cheney: "You may evade justice but in our eyes you are each guilty of egregious war crimes, of plunder and, finally, of murder, including the murder of thousands of young Americans -- my fellow veterans -- whose future you stole."

Why I am NOT an American any more. I grew up in the USA. And ditched my worthless citizenship for German citizenship two years ago. RIP to this man. And every other proud American who THOUGHT that we stood for freedom, democracy, and righteousness. Oh! I forgot. If I ever speak about a certain American politician again, I will be put in prison! Yes, a judge actually entered that as a default judgement. I am proud to be part of a nation which says, "it isn't freedom of speech if you can't afford to speak".

This guy represents every worker who works for corrupt corporations. I went to walmart and looked at items made in China and thought of the endless hours and poor pay and how so many millions suffer horribly for greed and the evil that lurks in men's hearts.

Thank you for everything Mr. Young. You are a true American, may God give you and all the victims, NATO and Iraqi, peace and tranquility. May the traitors who did this to you be punished in this world and the next. May you find peace and justice. Thank you.

It's sad to say, but this letter won't do any good. You can't move people who don't have consciences. They will never feel bad for the lies they told that got thousands killed, for their own riches.

It is strange in the manipulation of perception that the US has held other former world leaders to account for War Crimes for similar commands that they made during the war in Iraq, yet it is the individual Captains and Colonels that (/would) carry out each criminal act in war that are to be held accountable as well, as those commands and directives reach a blind network of further individualized commands.

Not even that. America pardoned tons of Nazis and imperial Japanese war criminals. They only pretend to care about human rights when they can bash countries that challenge their hegemony or have resources they want to steal.

This letter may not reach those with no soul, but it could wake some people up who are sleeping because of the mainstream media blackout on the truth about this war and those wars that are continuiing or being planned. Why the hell should these veterans' voices not be heard? Or yours or mine for that matter?

I disagree with you in one aspect.
I think this letter and this man could make a significant contribution to our own consciousness. The letter could serve as an eye opener to those of us who are too deep in our hypnotic stage of ignorance.
At the very least, I hope it triggers some interest in some to find out more about our abusive, criminal, self-serving, and destructive government.
i'm totally crestfallen by this :(

But tis the leader, who pulls the strings that move
destruction. It is unfair that majority label those, whom are
different or do not intervene in taxes as a nuisance.
Such as the poor, the homeless.
The triumph of evil, is the
    silence of good men.
This silence gives oppressing figure authority.
But through oppression, it manifests thee who will destroy it,
    in the end.
    Stay strong, fellow-ranger.
    Hi Yo Silver!

Aye, but i do not foresee this coming as soon
as we all hope. It is vital, and tis an
    amazing and great idea.
I think we'll have to push for it though, or
find a way into the education system.
As of now, schools are being introduced to concepts like
sex, bullying, gym, extra-curricular, mathematics, reading, and singing.
Especially sports if i must add. That is the way youths coming up are
    being directed.
"Silence of good men, is the triumph of evil."
We must take a vote, for the greater good.

I am for war, I am for security and defense. But What Bush and Chenney did.... It sickens me deeply. War is an ugly but necessary thing, you cannot save everyone. You will loose lives and innocent. Sons and daughters that you use to kiss at night on the cheek, you will kiss on there tomb. I feel horribly sorry for this man. I hope as he fades into peace, he lives in a fantasy were he is kicking those bastards in the balls and drinking with enemies and friends alike.

You should take a more nuanced view of it I think. Its not unreasonable to consider it exploitation even when their is a "choice" - a "choice" which is not often much of a choice for some people who lack money and education.

America has supported Israel since 1948 and imposed the embargo on Iraq 91 and the embargo continued until 2003 They always talk about the 2001 attacks, but they don't talk about what they did in the Middle East before the 2001 attacks took place The American policy in the Middle East is what creates extremism and violence

Albeit, in hindsight the US ordered the US Marines out of Fallujah to avoid charges of War Crimes due to the destruction of surrounding infrastructure, yet then insurgents and establishing Al Qaeda based groups flooded the city declaring that they had acheived victory over the US military and then the Marines were ordered to go back into offensives in Fallujah and retake the city.

This letter will do good. Thinking that it will not is exactly the attitude of nonaction that allowed this government to mislead a generation into a terrible lie of a war. This is the most powerful anti-war speech I have heard or read since Eugene Debs.
