You may not know this but this was a HUGE flop, it was rappers that brought it back to life, and through the years it was reexamined and seen as a classic.
Critics hated the movie. They thought Pacino went too over the top cartoonish with the performance. Oliver Stone wrote the movie and was going through his own personal drug addiction at the time, so in part is it written from a real life experience. Scarface is a remake of the 1932 film of the same name. The original film was more about the Mafia in Chicago with Tony Camonte being a fuckin psycho. Tony Camonte was heavily inspired by Al “Scarface” Capone
Tony Montana, "Scarface", was loosely based on Al Capone (whose nickname was "Scarface"). Also, the Al Pacino "Scarface" is a remake of a film of the same name from 1932 where the main character is named Tony Camonte. THAT film was directed by Howard Hawks, one of the people this film was dedicated to.
This was a remake of a movie made in 1932. The original Scarface the stars were Paul Muni and George Raft. The main characters were Italian and they were running liquor during prohibition. Other than those points it has a lot of the same plot lines except this one has more swearing.

In case you don't know, Steven Bauer(plays Manny here) was in Breaking Bad as well. He was Don Eladio the one Gus poisoned at the pool party.
Brandon notices and mentions it after the chainsaw scene
Also Mark Margolis who played Hector is in this
@@Jungbeck Yep, I spoke too soon. lol. He even caught Hector(exploding grandpa) from BB. lol. I even forgot he was in this flick.
@@remopoldmann5402 lol, we on the same page.
When Tony killed the man in the car that was going to blow up the family. You said “Wo!Tony went way off script!!” That was so funny, I never heard that saying before
This is actually a pretty faithful remake of the 1932 Scarface, just amped up to 11.
This may just be the greatest 80's movie of all time. I mean, the song "Push it to the Limit" was made for this movie....
That Joey Diaz reference is a deep cut.
Tremendous
Great reaction but you missed the best line…”you want a job Ernie?” Classic…
Such an epic classic! Your Joey Diaz line absolutely killed me LMAO
5:04, this scene is so brutal, it was cut from several TV broadcasts during the 80's.
The video game deserves some love too. Acts as one big “what if Tony survived the final shootout”
Brandon didnt recognized Michelle Pfeiffer as Elvira? Also, the opening credits say screenplay by Oliver Stone.
I was also thinking about Robert Loggia and Mary Elizabeth Masterantonio, not being recognized but I also have 25 more years of movie watching than Brandon
I never get into Netflix series but NARCOS and NARCOS MEXICO was extremely entertaining!
I thought breaking bad was the best show of all time until I found about Narcos (not narcos Mexico).
Narcos is by far the greatest show of all time, and spoiler alert for the next part…
They actually filmed in the places Pablo was, and even killed him in the exact location he died in real life. The show is a masterpiece
One of, if not the greatest, 80s montage in a movie
You may not know this but this was a HUGE flop, it was rappers that brought it back to life, and through the years it was reexamined and seen as a classic.
Please, rappers had leather coats with him on the back... It was ridiculous.
He actually had a thing for his sister which is why he was so protective. The original Scarface also had this Incestuous yearnings for his sister.
Critics hated the movie. They thought Pacino went too over the top cartoonish with the performance. Oliver Stone wrote the movie and was going through his own personal drug addiction at the time, so in part is it written from a real life experience.
It looked like you were gonna cry when Tony shot Manny. Truly the most heartbreaking scene in the movie. And the point of no return for Tony.
There's been talk of a remake for years now, based on the mexican cartels.
its actually a reboot of a 1930 mob movie about al capone cause they used to call him scarface
One of my favorite movies and the sound track is fantastic and unsettling.
Giorgio Moroder is a LEGEND in the music industry.
Scarface and The Neverending Story. Just two of his dozens and dozens of scores, but what a résumé! The scene where Tony watches the Pan Am blimp is so haunting. Genius. The beauty of filmmaking.
The "Push it To The Limit" montage is probably one of the best in cinema.
Its also on of my favorite movies (and thats one of the reasons why GTA Vice City is one of my favorite games as well)
fun fact: a lot of the bad guys you see in this movie ended up appearing in Breaking Bad. Probably more than you realize.
Never played gta's except like the 1st one. But The game they made from this movie was prolly my favorite game as a kid/teenager, it came out like 2005 or 2006. I think it was before Vice City. They should deffinitely make a remake out of it. Game starts at where the movie ends but u gotta survive the last shootout and make Ur way up, starting off making small street deals, in the end go get get revenge on Sosa.
@@Tero92 How have you played the Scarface game but not played GTA lol that's crazy to me....
Try GTA San Andreas if you want something old school. But GTA 5 is great too
@@Tero92 that Scarface game was basically build on the success of gta vice city. But VC was superior in every possible way.
It had its own story but it was heavily inspired by scarface. Same locations, same soundtrack, similar mansion, similar end etc.
Its weird u played Scarface but you never played VC. Usually its the other way around.
One of the greatest films ever made! Tony Montana is Iconic!
Now I want to play GTA Vice City
This comment is making me play it right now
Another great al pacino, brian depalma collaboration is carlito's way. Plus it has sean penn playing a crooked lawyer that is like saul goodman x100 lol
Brandon - “dudes got that Joey Diaz look”
🤣💯
Now all I can hear is Joey Diaz as Al Pacino
I'm glad someone else is reacting to this masterpiece of film after a while of not getting one.
A Dog Day Afternoon is a must watch!
When I was like 14 or 15 for a year or so I would watch this movie every single day and sometimes almost twice a day cuz I would fall asleep to it and wake up to the dvd main menu on a loop when I woke up for school. Lol I have no idea why I watched it so much. It was my fav movie at that point in time.
Vince Gilligan recreated the plot of this masterpiece 25 years later and made an even more impressive 60 hour work of brilliant art in Breaking Bad. I never knew he took some of the great actors, too.
Still gasp when Elvira makes her entrance - Michelle is absolutely gorgeous.
This, Ladyhawke and Into The Night coming in such quick succession made me a lifelong Michelle Pfeiffer simp. (Didn't see Grease 2 until much later!)
The performance of Al Pacino in Scarface is too powerful and it remains to be my favourite gangster movie.
💵THE WORLD IS YOURS 🕶💵
Unless I am missing someone, there are 3 actors from Scarface in Breaking/Better Call Saul.
Miriam Colon - Tony's mother is also the mother of Hector Salamanca in Better Call Saul.
Mark Margolis - Hector Salamanca
Steven Bauer - Don Eladio
Eladio, Hector, Abuelita, you start to get the sense Vince was really into this movie!
Fun fact: there was a Scarface game made flipping things around. At start of game you play at the final mansion shootout. If you kill the assassin that kills him you live and Tony goes to war with Sosa. Pretty dope game back on PS2 (: it was like a gta style game
Love love LOVE this newer format of editing. Really adds value to your reactions. Congrats on 100k 15k ago too!
Absolute masterpiece of a film. Loved your reaction man
You've got to watch A Bronx Tale !!!!!
If you haven’t seen Carlitos way it’s an absolute must!! Another great Pacino film
apart from steven bauer and mark margolis who played don eladio and hector. 8:54 tony’s mother also played tuco’s grandmother in better call saul
Anyone else own the platinum edition of this movie that includes the F-bomb counter? I'd love to see you react to Creepshow for Halloween
You may have to "Hold your breathe for a lonnnnng time!"
I have it. I had watched it in our dvd player. I was surprised when I first see that in the bonus menu of the movie.
If Brandon can’t squeeze Creepshow in this October, maybe next June for Father’s Day.
Just tell it to call you Billie. Everybody does.
I remember an episode of Unsolved Mysteries where one of the background actors went missing after this movie.
Edit: Apparently she was the woman who acted as a distraction in the chainsaw scene.
Been waiting for this since I started watching your channel. So glad you reacted to it.
I've been waiting for this all week.
Dude , that intro is GOLD!!!!!
My favourite Al Pacino performance.
Fun game: Shots every time the F-bomb is dropped. Could you even make it to say hello to his little friend?
Even after the 34 minute version put up on YT by Brandon I struggled and I was taking beer shots + smirnoff ice because just using Vodka would probably have killed me XD I googled. If you watch the whole movie the F-BOMB is dropped 182 times.
@@HaienTwitch That's nowhere near as bad as some other films. The Wolf of Wall Street has 569 f-bombs for example
Tony's mother was also in the BB universe, She played Tuco's grandmother in the second episode of Better Call Saul.
Hey Brandon I’ve been enjoying your content for a couple of months just wanna say I love your genuine reactions and input about the movies keep up the good work🤙🏽💯
Frank underestimated the other guys greed (Tony Montana) 🤣🤣😛😛
Hey Brandon, huge fan of your reactions and insightful opinions and analysis. As you mentioned liking Pacino and his work, you HAVE to give us a reaction for The Irishman!!!
Hope this gets to you!
That Pacino imitation was spot-on! Love these little skits at the beginning of the videos. It's always great to watch movies with you, Brandon.
Scarface is a remake of the 1932 film of the same name. The original film was more about the Mafia in Chicago with Tony Camonte being a fuckin psycho. Tony Camonte was heavily inspired by Al “Scarface” Capone
Brian De Palma is an awesome director.
I'm really surprised that you didn't make a comment about comedian Richard Belzer who played John Munch on Law & Order SVU.
I've really enjoyed this reaction so far, only at the bit where you recognised Hector but it shines through how much you're liking this.
One of my favorite movies! Happy you get to see it and see it from your pov.
Can we all just take a moment to appreciate how much work Brandon probably had to put into editing out all the curse words for this ? 😆
I take it this is your first Brian De Palma film .. welcome to the club, He's a fuckin' amazing director.
Cheers 🍺
Not only is Don Eladio in this movie........but Tony ends up falling into a pool ( face-first ) just like Don.
28:15 Tony's mansion appears in two different video games from PS2/XBox era. One is “Grand Theft Auto Vice City”, and the other is “Scarface: The World Is Yours”.
awesome and yeah it Vince Gilligan favorite movie soo classic!
