In this tutorial, I will show you how to make a mandala maker in Adobe Illustrator. With this mandala maker, you can design mandalas easily because you don't have to make parts of the mandala one by one. Basically, the mandala maker works using the transform effect so that we can duplicate and rotate objects automatically.

Fantastic video! I checked out the facebook video as well but I ran into a problem. The "expand appearance" is grayed out and only allows me to "expand". I hit expand but it only expands the smaller selection.
I click the link, but the video say resolution is SD and is so blurry I can't even read any text. Can you put a better version on RUclips please?

Thank you so much for this tutorial, is there a way to transform the mandala into a single object if I'm placing a rasterized element inside it (a transparent PNG)? I can't seem to find the way to expand appearance (probably because you can't do that to images) and I can't turn it to a single object, I only have access to the one "petal" that I edited.

Thank you for this tutorial... However, things have change a bit since 2018... with the latest version of ILL that option "Distort and Transform" it is not available. The menu has been renewed. When I hit transform all layers are duplicated... Instead, you are still with the very same three layers... 👍

Hi, your tutorial is really great and very practical. please explain to me how to transform this mandala into a transparent plot (Ctrl 8) and then apply a radial gradient to it?
when I click on "expand" to decompose and vectorize the objects, I can not create a transparent path (Ctrl 8) because the objects are in too many different groups. to click ungroup does not change anything because of multiple clipping masks. Thank you =)

Hi @NobuDesign. How do I change the amount of petals to 10 instead of 12? Thank you for this epic maker!
36 degrees rotation and copy 9 times (to make 10 copies total!) There are 360 degrees in total
So instead of dividing by 12...
360/12 = 30
you do
360/10 = 36

when i delete the anchor point to make the clipping mask, everything moves, i dont know what im doing wrong, can you help me?
lol i got it, i made it 10 more times and worked, dont know why xdd
sometimes it's very confusing because the clippingmask line is also transformed. make sure the line is centered and cut in the middle.
after drawing is finished, how can i make all the sides of the mandala be a single vector, without the reflect effects and transforms?
01:37 I have a problem xD, it happens that when I finish making the reflection effect the second line is not seen but if it is there and I do not know how to make that second line appear, I already tried to fill the stroke, change the color of the line but it only does it to the first line, that is, to the original line and nothing happens in the second line, please help :(

Select all mandala part( in workarea layer), go to Object > Expand Appearance, then go to Pathfinder click on Merge icon.

try to draw the line in the triangle you made in the start when you draw inside it repeats otherwise only dots

7:38 why is it when i click the center allign, the Line does nothing and stays in the same spot ? Also, i have the Align panel on the right panel above the Layers and not like yours on the top. Does that make a difference?
you have to set it to align to the art board not selection
I have gotten all the way to the end, and i am trying to draw on my new guides but no matter where or what i draw, it doesnt stay and doesnt take the shape of the mandala. only once every 20 or 30 tries can i make a line. idk why. please help
You can only draw within the triangle made with the pen tool. I had this issue too!
Idk what I'm doing wrong but every time I try making the triangle pattern by 3:22 it doesnt complete itself. And since there s no audio behind it I can't fix this issue ive done everything else right but I cant figure it out

i am not getting the image same as in 3:40
the white horizontal and vertical stroke lines that have visibility turned off on the workarea layer divide my mandala, the black lines of the mandala do not touch, they are divided by this horizontal and vertical lines, how can i fix that? i clicked all over the place, couldnt fix it
i see the problem is the clipping mask, when i put the anchor path in the middle of the line and then delete half of it, its not centered.. i guess thats the problem

Whenever I'm deleting the anchor point, in 3:13, the shape gets shifted. How do I fix that?
I just had a similar issue! Basically, my problem was that the anchor point I placed was not central enough :) Try zooming in even further and placing the anchor point as close to the middle as possible.

My laptop blasted
Rotated the line 15° and added an anchor point. When i selected the area and hit the delete button, the image shrinks. pls tell me what to do, i've been stuck figuring out the problem for 2 days 😅😂
Make sure the line is center vertically and horizontally.
Make sure you add the anchor point in the center of the line.
And select the anchor using direct selection tool and hit backspace/delete key.
same problem :/
