Every project Aaron Turner is or has been involved in, is just killer!
Russian Circles and Sumac, without a doubt, have the BEST bass tones in modern metal.
The bass sounds really similar, I wonder why...?
grobleZEP lol I didn’t even realize it’s the same guy
I'd like to humbly suggest Bongripper also.
murphyia1980 Yeah, dude. Bong rules. Cook rules. Everything every has said rules. Tone.

TONIGHT IS SEATTLE, WA !!! CAN'T WAIT!
Господи, это невероятно! Я преклоняюсь перед тем что заставляет меня буквально дрожать в оцепенении. Я никогда не думал что музыка может быть настолько пронзительна.
Спасибо так же человеку с камерой, съемка и звук - отличные.
Text write in Russian, cause I can't explain my feelings in English in full, without online translation. Also thank you for video of show, Sumac is one of the most important metal band for me.
About to witness this in a tiny venue in Bellingham WA
Aaron is the Neil Young of Metal. And, I mean that in the best way. Great job with the vid!
weirdly SUMAC also reminds me of the early days of Built To Spill and Dough Martsch is for sure the indie rock version of Neil Young. love it
Hell yes!!!
SUMAC amazing
Amazing, I absolutely love Sumac's music. I saw them live once in Primavera Sound in Barcelona and while they were brutal, the concert took place in an outside stage. I would love to see them in a closed venue here in Spain, they would absolutely kill it!!
Wouldnt open space be better? Soundwise?
Image of Control starts at 52:04, amazing footage and sound, thanks for sharing!
that bass tone
The closest we'll get to a real live show these days! Killer recording man!!! 😈🍻❤

Awesome to see that Sherlock Holmes is a Sumac fan
yg unlike tu fans masdo. sekian.
What is this, coal miner rock?
I mean no disrespect but it’s very sad to see Aaron’s music evolve to minimalistic, very experimental, very basic and almost unlistenable riffs that could have been written by anyone from complex, multilayered, melodic, progressive, creatively experimental and unique music of Isis.
Of course every one has their own perception of music so I dont mean to disrespect or discourage anyone from listening to Sumac. However I find this music much more basic and minimalistic than Isis which had a multilayered musical lines which maybe sometimes were predictable but often exceeded expectations and explored new heavy melodic soundscapes.
Having this in mind, band where we have 3 instruments and basically thrash riff, black riff, noise riff and different kind of noises is much more basic and simplistic than a band where we had whole range of musical styles and emotions from very acoustic and melodic to very heavy distorted and dissonant. I admit that someone can admire how many kind of noises Sumac can come up with but I dont find these riffs any bit catchy nor creative as there were other bands doing the same earlier (e.g. Old Man Gloom or any other previous heavy and experimental side project of Turner, Im sure I could list more bands if I was more into noise-black). My personal opinion is that it is easy to come up with shocking noise and very difficult to come up with catchy, multilayered and progressive lines like Isis had. There is no bass nor guitar line that is complex, that tries to explore some interesting even if dissonant melodies, there are just different phases of noise and silence, rarely maybe less bassy slightly less distorted but still completely not melodic guitar. If you compare it with most heavy and dissonant albums of Isis: mosquito control, red sea or wavering radiant had catchy riffs and interesting complex dissonant melodies while Sumac is just experimantation with noise.
Of course what is listenable may be a personal opinion, but Im sure for lots of people (and I even love drone and post-black metal), this is unlistenable.
Ending my too long comment with last personal observation: I find Mammiffer much more creative, with subtle interplay between effects, piano, guitar and other sounds than this minimalistic primal black-noise.
Sumac was formed because Isis accomplished everything musically they intended to as a band, Isis was never just AT and Sumac as a project contains different intentions, AT has stated that it's about the trio dynamic, more improv, raw power etc. The dynamics throughout a Sumac record are incredible and the intricacy of accenting between the rhythm section and guitar is top tier, honestly what's sad is that you're unable to enjoy it, if this is what AT is into doing at this point in his career after getting all the other stuff is out, it says something...this couldn't be made by some beginner unless they had immense emotional capacity plus the skill to translate that into music and ability to deliver it. Sumac is the best band in metal in my opinion for those reasons among many more, rarely do you see a band this tight that's not on click on in ears, I've never seen a live band that plays at this volume have so much control and interplay, the most crushing 3 piece in existence. Isis is incredible as well but it's a whole different bag and I don't think Sumac was never meant to be Isis v2
When ISIS fans talk negatively about Sumac, they almost universally make the same comments about the lack of focus on melody and texture. It's almost as if they just want their ISIS back.
Because Aaron Turner purposefully wanted to write more punishing music with minimal instrumentation and maximum possibilities? There's a great interview of him where he finally talked about Isis' dissolution. He got sick of the clean and rock band direction that Isis took and he wanted more improvisation, unpredictability, and ferocious riffage. If you don't like it that's fine, you can always go back to listening to your Isis records. But to bitch about Sumac without knowing the reason for its formation is asinine.
@@BilihinatBayareaCA link to that interview? would love to see that!
