  • A Labour politician with an outspoken style, Jess Phillips has risen to public prominence as the feminist with big ideas about how to liberate women. After working for Women’s Aid, she became an MP to try and force real change in women’s policy issues. She talks to Krishnan about why she thinks she’s powerful, why Jeremy Corbyn wouldn’t be a good Prime Minister, and her evolving stance on drug policy.

Women are of equal worth to men, agreed.
She talks about women not being in positions of power, including in politics. When this was recorded, Theresa May was PM, Nicola Sturgeon was 1st minister, Arlene Foster was NI premier and Leanne Wood leader of Plaid Cymru. I.e. every nation of the UK was being led by a woman.

Yes Jess, and a man to have 50/50 parenting when the family splits, gor them to not have to pay, for law to be upheld towards not degrading the other parent, for men to be protected also when out, for abuse to be recognised against men too. Boys have massive number of expectations .. example, women teachers can wear a wide range of styles, guys need suit and tie only, mainly. I hear much personal bias and opinion, and little facts.
I'd like to hear her reasons for her views on Parental Alienation, otherwise known as child abuse and domestic abuse against the targeted parent .. when she says it's a pseudoscience shes saying child abuse by degrading the other parent doesnt exist.

Women don’t cause damage men do . As shown with women attempting suicide more than men and successful suicides less than men and men less attempted more success .

KGM: Who are your Tory friends?
JP: Pretty much most of the women, I have to say. [...] Anna Soubry, obviously and Heidi Allen and Maria Miller, Anne Milton.
KGM: If liberation of women is your goal then why politics as the route to do it?
JP: My anger peaked, I would say, whilst working at Women's Aid and watching how both attitudes, society and policy damned people. [...] Welfare reform was damning women in refuge and so I thought right well I'm going to have to become a MP. If you want to change this you'll just have to get on with it, you're gonna have to do it. And it was specifically about policy that was wrong and changing policies that would benefit this group of women.
    Anna Soubry
    - Consistently voted for the bedroom tax
    - Consistently voted against raising welfare benefits in line with prices
    - Consistently voted against paying higher benefits over longer periods for those unable to work due to illness of disability
    - Consistently voted for reducing the amount spent on helping those in financial need afford their council tax
    - Consistently voted for a reduction in spending on welfare benefits
    - Consistently voted against spending public money to create jobs for young people who have spent a lot of time unemployed
    Heidi Allen
    - Generally voted against paying higher benefits over longer periods for those unable to work due to illness of disability
    - Generally voted for a reduction in spending on welfare benefits.
    Maria Miller
    - Consistently voted for the bedroom tax
    - Consistently voted against raising welfare benefits in line with prices
    - Consistently voted against paying higher benefits over longer periods for those unable to work due to illness of disability
    - Consistently voted for a reduction in spending on welfare benefits
    Anne Milton
    - Generally voted for the bedroom tax
    - Consistently voted against raising welfare benefits in line with prices
    - Almost always voted against paying higher benefits over longer periods for those unable to work due to illness of disability
    - Consistently voted for reducing the amount spent on helping those in financial need afford their council tax
    - Almost always voted for a reduction in spending on welfare benefits

    • @rich_jg5705
      @rich_jg5705 5 лет назад +1

shamanahaboolist Seriously. Studies explain the vital connection with breastfeeding. Facial recognition, a mother's scent and voice; it creates a bond between the two.
You have up until four to instil as much social and behavioural conditioning as possible. If most serious anti-social behaviour hasn't been ironed out it continues to be an issue into adulthood. The studies don't lie. It's more than reasonable, I'd say recommended, to raise your own children in their formative years. Rather than working to pay for someone else to, you lose control over what they're being taught and not taught otherwise. Not to mention it's a great pleasure.
That's where family, friends and active Fathers come in. It's a responsibility to cultivate an environment best suited to raising kids. The State should not and cannot take that burden.
We've already seen the devastating effects the State has had trying to care for the elderly. In Asian cultures it's normal for generations to live in one house. If your parents raised you for twenty years, it's fair to look after them in their elderly years as repayment. We've destroyed this social fabric. That's now the States job--and what a substandard job they do.
You can't treat a newborn as a burden for someone else to be responsible for. It's a selfish escape of nurturing duties.

What I find inspiring in politicians is humility and Jess Phillips has it in thimblefuls. She is apparently one of very few politicians who have courage, ministers hang on her every word when it comes to women's issues because she knows more than anyone else. That aside she contradicts herself repeatedly and treats the hard right and what she calls the hard left with equal contempt. I guess she agrees with Trump then. She's nothing more than an opportunist.

    • @SuzLa1
      @SuzLa1 5 лет назад

Women don't want to be treated the same as men. Only wife beater types use the logic that if women want to be paid the same for the same job and have a say in their country, then it means disrespecting women. I think the internet is a dangerous place, as Europe society is generally healthy, which kept its pagan culture where women were respected, and we only really follow the new testament, but in the USA they prefer middle east culture from the old testament, so men and woman dislike each other and boys grow up with issues to become incels and school shooters

Jess Phillips has a life experience that is badly needed in Parliament. Sadly she has no idea of the life experience that she does not have - creating the wealth that she is only to happy to consume. Employing construction workers is not the same as filling shortlists of women standing for Parliament. There is no shortage of women wanting to voice their opinions. Many also benefit from having studied law - the most common occupation for MPs, I believe. There is however a huge shortage of women training in the building trades. There is also a huge shortage of women in high tech. This is not because women are discouraged from becoming engineers or physicists. It is because women are choosing not to do so.
The complaints about PFI are also astonishing. The repayments that local authorities are now 'saddled with' were entirely predictable. They are the terms of the contracts that local authorities and the government wilfully signed with the approval of New Labour MPs and councillors and of course the man who saved the world, Gordon Brown. Jess does not for a minute consider why this happened. She does not ask herself whether she and her fellow Labour MPs and councillors are financially literate and numerate enough to govern this country.

I agree with a LOT of what Jess Phillips had to say in this video. Sadly, her view on drug policy is heavily tainted by anecdotal sadness caused by her brother's use of drugs.
The most dangerous thing about weed, in the short term, is getting caught with weed. She even says she has smoked it and yet is an MP - so it clearly isn't a massive great evil.
Look at Portugal; they decriminalised possession and it has helped massively reduced their issues. It's such a shame that she lets her own experience cloud evidence on this specific issue, when she looks for evidence elsewhere.
