Finally!! 😜 I love, love Mercedes Sosa!!! You have to listen "Alfonsina y el mar", "La cigarra", "Soy pan, soy paz, soy más" (this last one with the great Piero). Thank you Frank for reacting to these beautiful songs, they have an special meaning for me, these were the favorites of my mother who is no longer with me, but I can feel her closer when I hear these songs ❤
I love Luciano Pavarotti , and Mercedes Sosa AND Lucio Dalla who wrote so many amazing songs like Ana e Marco, and many others so yes a reaction to anything from these 3 amazing artists is always welcomed and appreciated my friend, ¡Bravo!
Love them both, ICONIC. By the way, as mentioned, yes, Argentina has a huge percentage of its population with italians descendants. Myself, one of them, with a calabrian great grandfather and believe me, italian blood and culture is SO strong and a huge part of argentinian culture as well, from the food, to the personality of its people. Grand mothers and their TONS of food to keep their grandchildren healthy and well fed... sounds familiar? huge family meetings with everybody talking at the same time hahahaha. Love and proud of my italian roots.
thank you Frank. regarding Lucio Dalla one of his songs was big hit in Mexico "Tutta la vita" but spanish version "Toda La Vida" recorded by Mexican singer Emanuel. recorded arround 1987 by Emanuel
Mercedes wasn't opera singer, actually she started singing tango, but she continued with folklore. You can notice that in this video she is older and it feels on her voice. If you like the lyrics you can listen oracion del remanso de fandermole
She had a cold that weekend. She was concerned about her vocal performance that night, she confessed during an intervire time later. A choir member told me that Pavarotti was drinking alcohol and smoking cigars before singing. Something unthinkable! He had a bulletproof larynx
Mercedes was brilliant but Luciano is a master! Yes. Argentina was the second country with most italians immigrants, second to USA. More than 60% of our population has italian roots.
I correct 1 thing, 60% of people in cties near to coast of the sea or rivers (buenos aires, mar del plata, rosario), even Buenos Aires in the 1950's was 70% of italians residents, but in the rest of country is less than 60%

Leggete "Le irregolari (Buenos Aires horror tour) di Massimo Carlotto. My two cents. P.S. It makes no sense comparing those two, or at least not before listening Pavarotti singing a chamamé or a pollerita the way they are supposed to be sung...

Cerati is also an italian surname. His grandfather migrated from a little town in Italy closed to the city of Cuomo, Italy. The family established in Entre Ríos Argentina and then his father settled in Buenos Aires. He was an accountant and corporative manager for several oil companies. That's when Gustavo Cerati and Her Two sibling sisters were born. Her mother surname's Clark comes from irish descendence. And she was a formar secretary in a public service argentinian company.
I can see that this interpretation touched your feelings ; beautiful thanks for this review of these great singers, Mercedes was more on folkloric progressive music during her career

Reading so much controversy ... I want to clarify that Mercedes Sosa has been baptized "The Voice of Latin America" by many artistic and political personalities, cultural institutions and famous performance venues around the world for the following reasons: • From the beginning of her career she sang songs that exalted the identity and problems of the marginalized regions of her country (CDs "Canciones con fundamento" or "Yo no canto por cantar"). • Quickly she realized that representing the Amerindian identity of the people would be one of the constant characteristics of his musical message ("Canción del derrumbe indio"). • She founded in Mendoza, along with other artists, a Manifesto that sought to stimulate, study and spread popular music from Argentina and Latin American countries, addressing social and cultural themes from a profound poetry ("Manifesto of the New Songbook"). • For her 'left' ideology and for the constant denunciation of authoritarian regimes in her songs, she was watched, censored, persecuted and humiliated by the Argentine authorities, having to go into exile in Europe for many years, where she spread popular music. Argentine, also Chilean and Brazilian, and denounced the Argentine dictatorship. • Upon her return from exile, she ventured into other musical genres such as tango, Argentine rock, and others, pioneering the breaking of some musical prejudices. • He was a symbol of freedom in South America for denouncing the Pinochet dictatorship singing songs like "Todo cambia" in Asia, Europe, the USA and Australia. • She did not forget the forgotten and marginalized Amerindian peoples in her songs ("Old owner of the arrows"). • Towards the 80s and 90s, in her world consecration, she recorded rhythms from other countries such as Bolivian huaynos ("Canción y Huayno"), Peruvian marineras ("Un son para Portinari"), Chilean rhythms ("Galopa, Murieta") , Uruguayans ("Ky chororo"), Brazilians, Caribbean and others, but he never left behind the musical rhythms of his country ("Entré a mí pago sin golpear", "Balderrama", "El Cosechero") * In her extensive musical career she denounced the poverty and job insecurity of the inhabitants of GRAN CHACO ("Monte chaqueño"), she denounced the slavery servility carried out by the landowners ("Peoncito de Estancia"), she denounced the precarious situation of prostitutes ("La Villerita"), she denounced infant mortality (Cuando muere el angelito"), she denounced human rights, democracy and equality between men and women ("María, María"). * His famous performance of "Song with everyone" is considered the Latin American anthem. * He claimed the realities of the discovery of America ("Taky Ongoy", "Aya Marcay Quilla") * He always released new artists from the different countries he visited. * He showed great interest in Ibero-American literature, sculpture, painting, music and cinema. * She was highly sought after internationally for the quality, elegance and reality of her presentations. * She recorded the "Misa Criolla" by Argentine authors, a set of Argentine Christmas carols and prayers in American rhythms. * He danced and revolved the handkerchief when he sang certain rhythms: the handkerchief is a very present element in many folk dances: cueca, zamba, marinera, bailecito, etc. * She opened the Grammy for Folklore. * In recent years, when her voice changed markedly, she continued her social work from music, always keeping her message alive. * The CD "Cantora" is the last album he recorded and his great legacy, where he sings together with world-class artists such as Shakira, Calle 13 and Joan Manuel Serrat. In short, Mercedes Sosa was an artist committed to a message of peace, tolerance, discovery, recognition, improvement and progress in Latin American history.
