Brilliant tutorial! Definitely a key film making technique that needs some exposure. The way I would do a focus pull/shift is that I make a distance dimension, parent constrain locator 1 to the camera and locator 2 to the subject. I then feed the distance between the two into the focus distance of the camera so I can freely move and animate locator 2 and it'll automatically update! I use this method as it provides greater control over the focus pull and visual aid in the viewport itself especially for higher focal lengths or with low f stops. 🙂 (Sorry if that was a bit long 🙈).
Your method is a great way! A little more advance with the setup. I did this method for complete beginners so they can quickly animate a focal without worrying about any setup. Have you used a Z Depth Pass before?
@@HollysMayaTutorials Yeah I've used the Z depth pass a few times. My preference is to nail the depth of field in the CG shot itself although the trade off is render times vs quality of the depth of field!
Exactly what I was looking for ! thnks :)
Amazing!
Muchas gracias

Same here, Z Depth has some limitations especially in After Effects but can be used if short on time for rendering.
Thank you!!!
