I was a 3rd Engineer on this beautiful Cruiser in 1970, where I met my future wife. We are still happily married, with kinds and a grand son. We still think of that ship with nostalgia.

I was the singer in the musical review shows from autumn 1989 to summer 1990. She was a magnificent ship, and I enjoyed singing for so many great passengers from so many wonderful places. It was an honor to be part of her crew and I cherish the memories.

MY WIFE AND I took our first and only cruise on this wonderful old ship in Decemberr, 1990, sailing from Miami to Key West, then to Playa Del Carmen and on to Cozumel. We took the shore trip to the ancient Mayan city of COBA, and we thoroughly enjoyed the entire week. Wonderful memories of a "Grand Old Lady of the Sea". She gave us 69 years of loyal service, probably longer than any other cruise ship will ever attain; she had a noble history and a roster of famous people who sailed on her. We're glad that she was NOT scrapped, and ended up INTACT in the arms of the sea which she had sailed upon for so many years. THANKS, BRITANIS, FOR THE MEMORIES!!!!

She was my first cruise, 40 years ago, from New York to Bermuda. Ever since, I've been hooked on cruising. In fact, on that first cruise we caught the tail end of a storm - coming and going. It was the most exciting thing. The ship rocked back and forth, so badly, that when we arrived in Bermuda there were people lined up, on the Promenade deck - with their luggage - vowing not to sail back to New York.

My wife and I sailed on her in Dec. 1990, same year as you. Wonderful historic ship, and wonderful memories. I'm so pleased that she was NOT scrapped, but ended her days in "Davy Jones' Locker", where she belonged!

I was on this ship that same year in November to Bahamas, and it ruined me for cruising until last year. How do you top a boarding meal of foil-wrapped hot dogs, bagged chips, and canned soda? lol, I prefer the Royal Caribbean!

@@elizabethrados8525 Same here, it was my 1st cruise and I swore I'd NEVER cruise again. Even though I had never cruise before, and had nothing to compare the ship to, I knew that something was wrong....VERY WRONG !

I sailed 2 times on the Britannis, 2 years in a roll. It was memorable!!! Loved the ship and all the crew. On the second cruise, I spent an evening with one of the pursers who made me dance and showed me around. The first time, I was only 26 years old and the crewmen flirted with me a lot. Great weather, great trip, great ship!!! I still have my pics. Spending a week in Puerto Rico, was fantastic also. Great memories!!!

I sailed on the Britanis from Melbourne, Australia to Southampton, England in April 1970. Five weeks at sea. Exotic ports of call; what an adventure for a 21 year old!

I watched (1992 Port Everglades) the captain and pilot swing this ship around 360 degrees within an extremely narrow berthing area and entirely without the use of tugs. The pilot was a young excitable fellow, all said and done he said at one point that he loved the old twin screw ships and (obviously) getting to maneuver them in such a way. And all I had to do was have the presence of mind to walk to the dockside bridge wing. I stood right behind them as a 12 year old kid. Edit, I should also say that they swung the ship 360 degrees and Docked it, all without a tug in sight.

I love ships but that kind of docking sounds too much like parallel parking.

Just an FYI. My wife and I traveled to Cartagena, Panama and Grand Bahama in March 1989 on the Britanis. The ship was sold for scrap and was berthed in Port Tampa around 1997 before being towed to India. I have a photo of the Britanis in Tampa.
