  • On day two, Nick and Jalen head up the mountain in the morning to see if the mature bucks are still at a higher elevation. They find a great vantage point and spend a few hours up there. After, they hike back to the pickup they head into a small town and grab some fixings to make sandwiches. After lunch they decide they are going to go back to the same place where they saw all the deer the night before. They find a buck that they decide is worth getting a better look at. They get to a spot where they can see the area where the buck last was. They continue to search for the buck, they finally find a nice buck but they are not sure if its the big buck they saw from a mile away. After some discussion, they decide to make a move on the buck. Come check out how Nick and Jalen close the distance and fill their 3rd mule deer tag of the year.

    That was me walking by you guys haha. I was early morning elk hunting about a mile further up the mountain and on my way back down to camp. Once I get down that close to camp I usually have blinders on for some breakfast if I'm not also hunting deer. Glad you were successful despite my tromping past 👍 lol. Glad you enjoyed Colorado.

      That is too funny! We were half way mad bc at first we thought you had to of seen us and just didn’t care and we were trying to get your attention but obviously it didn’t work 😂 then as you were walking away we started talking more about how we honestly thought you didn’t see us! Too funny! Did you have any luck while you were out there?

    nice work guys! as a midwestern flat lander do the walking sticks help? debating on picking up a pair

    • @NJHunting
      @NJHunting  Год назад

      Thank you! And yes, pick up a pair and you'll never go back. Took us a few seasons before we tried them out because we weren't sure how much they would help either, but we will never go back. They are super nice when you are packing something out! Highly recommended.

    Love watching you guys together, great filming and I enjoy the gear you both use. I laughed too, when you walked up then realized the deer was lying right there at your feet. The feeling of relief comes over you that you killed him. I literally hunted hard for a big buck for three days. I new he was there across the canyon. I would catch glimpses of him belly crawling around and getting away form other hunters. I laid and waited for hours. He stood up at 380 yards and I placed the reticle 15 inch above his back, estimated. Pulled the trigger and completely didn't see the shot. I packed up went to where I thought he was. No blood, looked for two hours. Nothing. Almost dark, realized I missed, Wow! I felt sick, so I turned to go back down the hill and over to where I had to hike out. Just as I turned I literally almost tripped over him, weird, how did I miss him, sometimes we look too hard ahead for something that is right at our feet. Great hunting guys.

    You guys are fun to watch, I always wanted to do a fourth season Mule deer hunt and I have 6 points for 2023. Any thoughts on what unit I should try?

    • @NJHunting
      @NJHunting  Год назад

      Thank you and this hunt took us less than that! You should be able to get a better unit than this.

      Depends on if you resident or not and if you wanna hunt rut or not. If resident, I’d wait 7 more yrs and get a 66 3rd season tag. Pre rut. Or you can go get a 67 or 66 2nd I believe if you wanna burn pts now.
      Both units hold 200” bucks (if you can find them)

  • @elkmo41
    @elkmo41 4 месяца назад

    What makes that buck mature? Looks young, maybe older than most bucks spotted but not mature. Low point fourth season tag guarantees pressure and young deer or zero public land.

    Nice job! How many points did it take to draw that area? I know you said limited but trying to judge if I have a 4 to 6 yr wait to be able to draw.

    • @NJHunting

    • @NJHunting

      Yup and the 2nd season is usually the easiest rifle hunt to draw as well. Good luck!

    Colorado is way over populated during hunting season its been that way for many years.

    • @knotengajin7359
      @knotengajin7359 Год назад

      Public land in most states, especially the “good” areas, gets overpopulated in hunting season.
