    • @leandroagonzalez3
      @leandroagonzalez3 2 года назад +15

      Rusty it may be, shows how great it was crafted to still work so nicely. Art, science, and technology at its finest. Simple. A restoration would be cool, maybe I'll build on3 =).
      The only problem I would find is people. Tho that would be a benefit to your market choice. Farms, offices, industrial sites. Better than having sticky traps and conventional rat traps laying everywhere that might not even kill them instantly.
      This could be a product that offers a better way to dispose and capture said vermin. While also looking decorative and something that part of the room and not leaving it looking like a mess.
      My idea!!! I want credit and allow me to help with it =) to whomever reads this.

      @@jonf1767 Ye, the `humane` part of my statement was in brackets for a reason : ). I still think it shows an understanding born of experience. It`s kind of a social statement considering the conditions people lived in back then. Today, we see rats and mice in this country in a much less accepting way; dealing with them more remotely with pest control companies. We no longer experience vermin so passively at play or damaging property on such a day to day level.

      Looks like someone needs a little more science. A mouse can be dropped from the height of an elephant with no ill effects; while an elephant can not be dropped from the height of a mouse without causing damage. Hypothesise as to why this is the case, (you can solve it with just gravity and mathematics.)

    Interesting device. Although a little messy and far from humane, I find the simple snap trap to be the most effective mouse trap. I thought of one though, when I saw a two foot tall pickle jar with the top curved in. Simply put bait around the inside top of the jar and a ramp leading up to the top. They fall in, and because of the shape and size of the jar, they can't get out. I didn't try it, as I didn't want to eat that many pickles to get the jar.

    • @davidwalter2002
      @davidwalter2002 2 года назад +1

      I worked for over 20 years in the pest control business, and I agree that snap traps are the best method. Some people may object to the kill factor, but as a professional, I couldn't let sentimentality get in the way of doing my job. And I had no desire to do anything with mice that stayed outside where they belonged.

    • @garretteverett2613
      @garretteverett2613 2 года назад +1

      We've done similar with a board leading up to a bucket. You put a roller over the bucket with some peanut butter on it, the mouse has to jump onto the roller to get the bait and is rolled into the bucket.
      By far the only surefire measure of catching mice that I know of is having a cat that is a good mouser. It seems like mice get more clever with each generation and are really good at unbaiting or otherwise circumnavigating traps.

      Curiosity Show was a national science program for children featuring Dr Rob Morrison and Dr Deane Hutton. It was made in Adelaide, South Australia and screened nationally in
      Australia as well as in Europe, Asia and Australasia (14 countries) from
      1972-1990. Deane and Rob intentionally used everyday items around the house
      (like old cans) so that children could repeat the demonstrations with materials
      they had to hand. In 1984 Curiosity Show won the Prix Jeunesse International,

      That's exciting. It's great to have this sort of content available in any case, but having access to the original creators is really something.
      When I first saw the graphic intro I wondered whether it was made to look old (Stranger Things style) or genuinely a product of my childhood years. Then I saw an episode with a "microcomputer" and ceased wondering. I never knew this program as a child (in the US), but it reminds me very much of an American program called Mr. Wizard's World, which I believe was popular over here.

    There needs to be a museum or an art gallery displaying these things. I made a long box with a clear plastic top. A hinged up door on the end was held up by the end of a wire. The other end of the wire was on the fulcrum of a see-saw. As the mouse travelled over the fulcrum to get to the food the door came down and trapped the mouse inside. The next morning I would take it to the park. This sounds humane but in the park they got attacked by birds. My trap didn't reset like this lovely one but I did have a rubber stamp of mouse which I printed on the side for each mouse caught, like the old WW2 bombers. The joy for me was in the making. Thank you for this, it brought back memories.
