After the Trench trilogy, I definitely recommend the rest of the Trench album……especially Bandito. That song………I can and have listened to that song for hours on repeat. It’s like chicken noodle soup for the soul.
Then, I highly recommend continuing with Stray Kids! Maybe a livestream with them in the future if possible. They just had three new Christmas songs released, but I recommend some songs off their album NO EASY, especially DOMINO (full version, not just the Unveil: Track teaser video), CHEESE, Red Lights, and my favorite, WOLFGANG. I also recommend Stray Kids’ KINGDOM performances of I’ll Be Your Man and WOLFGANG.
Lastly, I recommend checking out TXT sometime in the future! They’re known as the baby brothers of BTS because they’re from the same label, but they hold up all on their own in terms of talent and skill. I recommend FROST, PUMA, Can’t You See Me?, 0X1=LOVESONG, and LO$ER=LOVER. Then check out their debut song CROWN for some genre contrast & some “cheerful sound but melancholy lyrics.”

In terms of, “We’ve been here the whole time. You were asleep. It’s time to wake up.” as someone who was a fan from 2015 to now, I remember the time between Blurryface (2015) and Trench (2018) was so quiet, in particular because both Tyler and Josh and the TØP socials in general went radio silent for….I think 18 months? A significant amount of time. Then fans noticed a new link hidden on one of the pages of the TØP website, which led fans on a scavenger hunt to find visual teasers and story content for the upcoming album-Trench. So hearing Tyler say, “We’ve been here this whole time,” when first watching Jumpsuit gave me chills.

Yellow is a sign of hope - so that is a big part of the entire Trench album - the people throwing the flowers are "Banditos" - they are people who have escaped this city of Dema (which is basically a metaphor for your mind, if you're trapped in the city of Dema then you're trapped within your own mind - to escape the city would be to conquer your insecurities/fears/etc) - So right now Tyler is being dragged to the city of Dema
the dude in the red coat is a bishop - that one in particular is Nico - there are 9 bishops that guard the city of Dema (Nico and the Niners) - their job is to get people to give up on thinking for themselves and basically have mind control over everyone in the city - the next video picks up in the city of Dema - the vulcher is important because he is what feasts on basically the bodies of the people in the city who never can escape
the main thing to keep in mind is that the people in yellow are trying to escape the city of Dema that is guarded by the bishops in red coats - to "leave the city" would be to win your own mental battle - and you have to do it yourself - there are others there to help encourage, but you ultimately have to do it yourself
none of this is a spoiler, this was all leaked out by Tyler before the video came out - you can really go down a rabbit hole if you google "Twenty One Pilots Dema" with all the different background and clues that Tyler has dropped - as well as fan theories, etc

@@KnoxHill Ok, if really want to understand (attention - a lot of words):
so basically you saw connection between two concept albums of Twenty one pilots (TOP), first one - blurryface and second one - trench
some definitions that should help you:
Blurryface - main character in the album, that represents Tyler's (singer and songwriter), and ours insecurities .obviously Tyler's alter-ego. Tyler usually wears black paint on his hands and neck during his live shows and music videos for the album, to represent Blurryface and his insecurities, how he is not sure in his music ( hands - music instruments , neck - words, voice).
Nico (man in red from Jumpsuit) - blurryface physical form, main bishop in Trench album.
Dema - represents a place (city), physical or psychological, where Blurryface has jurisdiction over Tyler, which means a place where your insecurities control you. Trench is the place in-between this control and "freedom" .
Banditos - a rebel organization who rescue people trapped in Dema and trying to help people Leave The City of Dema, fight their insecurities and depression (obviously - TOP fans).
Red color - blurryface era (depression, insecurities, bishops)
Yellow color - trench era (hope, support, family, friends)
about videos in order of story (spoilers, but without them it's really hard to understand):
heavydirtysoul - In this video blurryface is driving Tyler to Dema while repeatedly trying to kill Josh(drummer) who is trying to stop him. While those hard drumming it helps Tyler to take some control , cuz with every hit of drums - car is start to fall over. At the last minute Tyler takes control again and saves Josh - but Josh's drums are still catching fire, because Ty problems affect everyone around him even if he doesn't hit them physically.... And after the car catches fire and ty beats blurryface - it starts all over again the next day... A constant loop of hurting the people you love because of your inner demons. Now some people believe the car also represents the whole blurryface album and it blows up at the end to symbolize the end of the era and beginning of trench.
Jumpsuit - the guy in red is Nico . When he touched Ty's neck he get him under his control (black paint on his neck). The people up on the cliff are the banditos, wearing yellow tape, who are trying to save TY ( represents his family and friends , that give him support(yellow flowers) to get out of this control), in the end of the video last man on the cliff is Josh.
Nico and the niners - So in this video Ty is planning his escape (symbol of it - yellow color and this flower in the beginning, from the end of jumpsuit, also you can see that it's bunch of flowers, so this is also looped). In the end of this video - he unexpectedly meets banditos who got out but did not left him and come to rescue Ty.
Levitate - in the end of video Nico grab Tyler once again . A constant loop like in Heavydirtysoul - but here it represents how depression an anxiety (Nico form) can take you in anytime when you even not seen it coming.
Hole storyline is next : Heavydirtysoul - Jumpsuit - Nico and the niners - levitate. Then Heathens (spin off with bunch of color references) - Morph - Neon gravestones - Bandito - Leave the city

@@KnoxHill The quick and the dirty... the black on Tyler's neck has always represented the strangle hold his insecurities have over him, overall Blurryface. The Blurryface album has 9 circles and had always been represented by the color red, the black on his neck showed the chokehold Blurryface had on Tyler. Trench lore has 9 bishops, 8 of the bishops names are anagrams leading back to lyrics in different songs representing different types of insecurities those expressed by Blurryface, the last is Blurryface's name Nicholas Bourbaki also known as Nico. While Blurryface largely deals with the theme of insecurity, Trench represents feeling the need to escape and being in between two places. So when you see red in Trench videos, it's still Blurryface, he hasn't gone away yet. Yellow is a color of hope and renewal. Also yellow is a color the bishops cannot see, it appears grey to them. OMG! You're doing Twenty One Pilots OMG YES! Just all of it please, all of their music. Polarize off of Blurryface is my favourite on the album. The entirety of Vessel is iconic. Trench has so much lore its not even funny. The OG Twenty One Pilots album has so much depth and views on mental health. So does Regional at Best and Tyler's solo album he released in the earlier years No Phun Intended. Tyler and Josh really support the mental health community a lot and they have gotten me through some rough times in my life. I'm so happy to see them having their own families and being in a better place, you can definitely hear it in their newest album Scaled and Icy, though the lore never stopped lol. Sorry for rambling, I'm just so ready for you to go down this path.

It’s probably been mentioned before… but Tyler has said a couple times that he keeps his symbolism obscure on purpose so that it can be applicable for different peoples and different times. He has something in mind, as to what the jumpsuit stands for, but oftentimes he keeps that to himself. There have even been times where he liked others people’s interpretations more than his own. :) But as always, love your thoughts… and looking forward to your reaction for Nico and the Niners.

Yooooo. I have been looking forward to this for so long. Your analysis is great; this album gets a lot of comments relating to some of the narrative stuff Twenty One Pilots were doing around the same time. There was a lot of like ARG stuff where you had to go to weird websites and download files and find clues to unravel this backstory for the album. But beyond that stuff; I think this song really has to do with what you broke down which is Tyler saying that "he'll be right there" but first you have to literally choke him out, tie him down, and rip off his hands which is symbolic (like you said) to the Blurryface alter ego. The big question I always had was who is the "you" he is talking to? Inner demons, music industry, self-doubt, etc.

  • @BeachDreamere

Basic lore breakdown... The Blurryface album has 9 circles and had always been represented by the color red, the black on his neck showed the chokehold Blurryface had on Tyler, it covers his hands trying to block his creativity of writing and singing. Trench lore has 9 bishops, the bishops names are anagrams leading back to lyrics in different songs representing different types of insecurities those expressed by Blurryface. The 9 Bishops are: Andre (Fairly Local), Listen (Polarize), Keons (HeavyDirtySoul), Nigo (Stressed Out), Reisdro (Doubt), Sacarver (Tear In My Heart), Nills (Goner), Vetomo (Lane Boy) and Listo (Ride). Then there is Blurryface's name Nicholas Bourbaki also known as Nico. People have thought Nico is a bishop, actually Nico encompasses all bishop's, Blurryface is all of the 9 bishops, he's all of Tyler's insecurities. The problem is we've been told there are 9 bishops but given 10 names. The people on the cliffs are called Banditos they have escaped Dema (where Blurryface lives and controls also known as the Tower of Silence. Dema & Tower of Silence is a real thing in the Zoroastrianism religion. Towers of Silence were used to dispose of dead bodies by having vultures eat the corpses. Hence the vultures in Trench.) Later you'll hear East is Up, the sun rises in the East and this is the Banditos telling Tyler the morning sun has risen, also a metaphor for heaven. Things come together through the songs, for example on the Blurryface album the song Doubt mentions the Bishops, showing Tyler was setting us up for Trench, there are other examples as well. The album Vessel has references to Blurryface. Honestly, their self titled and Regional at Best, leads to Vessel and Blurryface. The title Vessel says a lot because Tyler is the Vessel in which Blurryface lives. Tyler loves his stories and Scaled and Icy has its own lore with stories still connecting.
I think that covers most of the Trench lore in a nutshell and how it reflects back to Blurryface.
I love listening to you breakdown songs the way you do, it's really an amazing skill. I'd love to hear you take on each album and break it all down, one video per album, I know if watch them without a doubt. I think it would be cool to show the difference between Tyler's earlier writing, how his style had changed in different ways. It's just a thought. Thank you for the breakdowns, I really enjoy them.

A+ on breakdown as always. I love hearing your thoughts on the sonic side as well as lyrics. It doesn't matter that you may not know the lore. You still had plenty to comment on and did a great job. I never knew of yellow for creativity. We mostly know it as hope, but creativity adds a layer that really works well with the story as it goes forward from Trench into SAI, so I like this a lot. I love this song so much and it is even better live with Tyler's screams being even loader and held longer. You should check out live versions just for yourself.

These guys put on a helluva show. Definitely see them live if you get the chance! Josh set that car on fire to open their show on this album tour. Came out with a torch, walked around the stage, then set the car on fire and backflipped off of it. Then Tyler came out, they did their first song, he back flipped off the car, disappeared, and then reappeared at the back of the stadium in the stands. And that was one of like 20 rigged sets they had. They also had a massive floating catwalk that descended from the ceiling, a second stage in the middle of the crowd with a tiny platform that went up in the air with Tyler on it..etc. full mötley crew stuff. Wildest, most hyped show I've ever been to! You can tell they really agonize over every detail of their work and give the fans a lot

The vulture is represented on the cover of the Trench album. The name of the vulture is Clifford. In one of the songs in Trench, Pet Cheetah, Tyler has a line that says, my house is the one where the vultures are perched on the roof, and in the last video of this trilogy, Levitate, he says, I am a vulture who feeds on pain. So, it can be indicative of how Tyler feels.

I'm so happy you are jumping into the deep end, so to say! As a Clikkie, when he dropped off the face of the earth for over a year, we nearly all went mad.
And yes, that IS the car from Heavydirtysoul.
    Welcome to Dema.
But in Trench, we're not aløne.

ooof, this one is tricky Knox 😹 you’ll be confused for 99% of the time if you don’t go deeper. there’s a whole ass lore going on, a bunch of callbacks to their other lyrics, the symbolism with yellow tape and flowers, with the horse riding dude and other weird shit lmao

So, you're close with thinking of colors at the end. Tyler has represented Blurryface with red and black, and those red hooded figures are meant to be Blurryface. The yellow is meant to represent hope, and there's a common theme in the videos of Tyler, Josh, and others, all wearing the yellow jumpsuits, essentially fighting off Blurryface.

Damn you Knox, for not being an actual fan of 21pilot you actually break it down pretty well. All of the things you said represent what he wanted to express, and the thing you mentioned pretty well summed it up for peoples who don’t really follow the whole trilogy. 21 pilot is great, but for non fan to get what hes saying is amazing, i’m a damn fan to your channel already .

The comments you made about controlling his hands and his throat, his creativity, really seems illuminating considering where they took the lore with the next album-Scaled and Icy represents EXCACTLY that! Him being controlled by Dema to create a different style of music that would be more commercially attractive. Very cool conclusion!
