They're dense as lead! And mean! Last catfish I caught was a total surprise. I was using a little soft shad to catch crappie and got absolutely nailed. Might've been 4lbs, but fought like 8!
@@SuqMadiq I had gone to a family friend’s pond he had some big 2.5-3ft long catfish. He told us that he also had albino and they’re ten times stronger and meaner than anything else in the pond. Everybody says "today we are fishing a creek" and then they show a river where, I'm from the creeks are like 10 -11 feet long in most parts. But I've caught a five pound steelhead out of a 4-3 foot creek that goes into a 20-24 foot section.

During a bad drought in NC, I caught a 21 lbs chanell cat on a zebco 33 and a 1/8 oz panther martin on a in-line spinner bait, 6 lbs line. I fought that thing for 15 min until my buddy could net it. It was hooked by one hook and it was bent very badly. It could have come loose at any second. Great fishing trip! Yeah!
In fish and fishermen giant is different from man to man. But he can be proud he landed his biggest todate. And its filmed .... im happy that you landed it. ....and you can eat it. Thank you for sharing your adventures on RUclips.
We were catching all kinds of catfish on cicada imitations just a few weeks ago. We catch Channel Catfish on all sorts of artificial flies and lures in our pond. But sight fishing them with the Cicada Hoppers, it got really WESTERN! Had a blast!
Considering you caught him on a fly rod would take awhile for him to break your line as long as the fly rod is it takes the punishment and not the line I fly fish all the time I catch cats, bass, crappie, bream and bowfins I lose some but land the majority of them but great cat tho nice catch
You would be absolutely amazed at what a catfish will eat. I've found them on the Red River between Minnesota and South Dakota. Feeding on wild oat. They were from 3 lbs to 25 lbs. Between 4 of us we caught 400 fish that weekend. It was like caching crappies on a bite. But way bigger. One of the best weekends of fishing in my life.
That's probably a large cat relative to the average size in that small creek. He's not fishing the Mississippi River lol. Must have been hella fun to catch on the fly rod too.
I pulled a 26” cat in once to shore with 4” mono, but as soon as I touch it lt ran upstream and broke my line. No surprise. Biggest surprise is I got him that close.
I was on a high bank in the shade taking a cool drink 🥤 when sat and watched a meter plus big barramundi cruising is the shallows ❤I knew I wasn’t going to be casting on that big old fish as it would have smoked me into a huge tangle of trees just ahead lol 😂 I said not today big girl ❤😂
Regardless of what you are fishing for, Cat, bass, Pike, trout even, You should be using a 30 pound braid. It is strong enough to pull almost anything out of that river yet has the diameter of 8 pound line. I have to buy special cutters just to clip my line. No fish has broken it yet.
Kinda funny that all these city kids and rich boys think that's a "huge cat" It ain't even really that big for a channel Now on the gear you have I know it was a good fight but my pb cat was a 102.3 pound blue cat And there's people that's pulled up 50+ pounders on a ultra light setup while fishing for bream or shad
4x tippet and 5 wt fly rod my man…size is relative to the gear and the situation. We’ve caught 50lb+ cats and drum on meat stick conventional rods, we know fish get bigger than this one 😂

Not a huge cat. Maybe 8 pounds. A 50 pound cat is a big one. I fish for striped bass and when I accidentally catch a catfish I am not happy. It’s a waste of a $5 rainbow trout we use for bait and they don’t fight at all. Head wobbles and rolls are not a fight. Stripers are insanely aggressive and actually fight hard. Watching someone catch a catfish and get excited is hilarious. You can throw a night crawler out on 10 lb test and let it sit. 10 minutes or less you will hook a catfish and drag him in like a piece of wood. Not fun
