Thanks for taking one for the Team, but these are the kind of reviews i look forward too! Not trashing the product.. but saving me $80+ I havent seen any publicity behind this either.
Thanks for being honest. Many youtubers are holding back saying anything bad to fear of retaliation from Beyoncé fans. Thats why I continue to be a fan of the channel
haha, I highly doubt Beyonce fans are watching whisky reviews. And what channels are holding back? They can't wait to trash it exactly because its an overpriced celebrity venture (that most likely sucks : ) Still, I want to try (not buy) it and see for myself.
Some more notes: This whiskey was blended by a well regarded scotch distiller/blender, Bill Lumsden, who has done work for Glenmorangie and Ardbeg. Also, the mashbill for this product is only rye and Malted barley, 51% Rye 49% Malted Barley. So it's not going to taste like a standard MGP mashbill. The finish is PX Sherry casks.
51 rye/49 malt used to be a mash bill MGP offered, though it wasn’t very popular and didn’t taste much like the 95/5 mash bill. I’m not sure if they still offer it or if it’s been discontinued.
One more note: this isn’t straight rye so it can be under 2 years old and loaded with additives and sugar and not tell anyone about it. Remember Templeton Rye?
@@steveno7058 the problem with Templeton was more that they lied about their product being distilled in Iowa and being an old recipe from Prohibition that Al Capone liked, neither of those was true since it was MGP rye.
I was interested when I heard of the mashbill, as I like to try unusual mashbills, but then when I saw that it was very low strength and had no age statement, I was a lot less interested. If it turns up at a bar, I might try it out of morbid curiosity, but I won't be buying a bottle. I will have to keep an eye out for other products that have used this mashbill - maybe someone else has done a better job with it. Most celebrity booze is a ripoff, unfortunately.
Keep in mind this isn’t STRAIGHT rye. So it could be younger than 2 years. They could also add sugar, vanilla extract, fake wood and coloring…and not tell you about it. That is why it is so important to be a STRAIGHT rye. Remember Templeton Rye?
If you are ready to pony up ~80 bucks for a finished bourbon or rye, go grab anything from Barrell Craft Spirits. Specifically the Seagrass. Easily one of my favorite pours in that category.
I bought Longbranch a while back just because it was a Wild Turkey product not knowing it was a "celeb" whiskey until i got home and my wife who does not drink but is a giant McConaughey fan said "Oh you bought Matthew's new whiskey". Pretty good whiskey though and fairly priced around $35 in my market here in TX.

Of celebrity whiskeys, I do like the Metallica Blackened whiskies, at around $50. Supposedly subjected to their music to keep the liquid moving in the barrels, and following the recipe of a master distiller, it's really pretty good, whether you're into the band or not. Trenton you might like their "Rye The Lightning", a 92 proof rye finished in Madiera and rum casks.
And yet some people just can’t resist buying it for some reason. Paying money they worked much harder to earn than the celebrity did dollar for dollar.
The only celebrity whiskey that is worth buying in my opinion is the Lagavulin Offerman partnerships. I respect a man who is humble and enjoys whiskey just as much as the average guy, and lets the experts do the work. Nick Offerman has knocked it out of the park with all the Lagavulin releases over the past few years. The Guinness and Rum cask release are especially good!
I had heard the mash bill for this bottle is 51%Rye, 49%Malt. A very funky recipe that could maybe lend to its odd flavors. Anyway, it's a $90 infinity bottle that happens to have whiskey you can drink in it.
Probably because he actually liked whiskey,, unlike most of these Celebrity liquors where it's just an investment to make money off their name. At least Sammy Hagar was into tequila with the Cabo Wabo brand before he sold it. Bob Dylan's Heaven's Door brand also produces some very good whiskey.
I dumb lucked into an amazing bottle over the weekend for this same price tag of $89.99. Local store had the Hard Truth Chocolate Malt Rye, and I’m in love!
I bought this bottle at my local BevMo based on the recommendation of one of the staffers who purchased and said there was more to it than the name. I am not a Beyoncé fan lol and actually her name being on it makes me not want to buy it. Before giving the bottle a final decision I waited till the bottle was past the shoulders. I will say there is a pleasant taste for me on the finish. It’s sort of a creamy vanilla creme brûlée that I personally enjoy in my whiskey. I won’t buy a second bottle unless the price goes under 40. There are too many great bottles at this price point that this cannot compete with. When I pay almost 100 out the door I expect that bottle to be an experience and not just a nice sip. Thanks for your honest review.
I have heard a few good things about this Beyoncé bottle. I saw it for $75 and ALMOST picked it up. But I just couldn’t pull the trigger for an 88 proof bottle. I passed and I’m glad. What I didn’t pass on was the The Alberta Premium Cask Strength Rye. WOW! What a great pour for $65! Also the Sagamore Sherry is fantastic.
Great review! We actually thought this was simple enough to be an everyday pour if the price tag was more like $20 - $30. It feels like a whiskey you can drink while you're chillin and it won't require your full attention.
I have never purchased a celebrity whiskey, but I suppose they are not targeting the 70 year old crowd. I have had a taste of WT Longbranch, which was fair, and a Heaven's Door product which was okay. Overall, the celebrity whose whiskey I love is good old Jimmy Russell.
I just got the notification that this got delivered! But I’m out of state working so my review will be weeks from now. Unfortunately I’m not super excited after hearing your review 😂. Thanks guys.
I have had a 7 year single barrel of this mashbill from MGP at cask strength that I got from Binny's for fifty bucks. It wasn't sherry finished but it was pretty darn good. Even if celebrities come out with good whiskey, unless there is something truly unique about it, I am sure I can find an equal or better alternative for a lot less money since they will be collecting a royalty on each bottle in addition to the distiller's profit.
From what I've read it's their own mashbill (51% Rye 49% Barley) contract distilled through MGP, 2 years old, finished in PX casks. I don't remember where I read it though, so that could be wrong.
