, I coped this when it came out because their voices, the flow of the joint and the Music are just entrancing . . . . SO I did a translation and it started talking about a lake, then I did another translation today ( how many years later ) and I saw it was about remembering the Queen of Sheba and her influence on today's culture. Still think this song is magic, I have to see if the producer of this has other quality content

    Makeda
They want to make us believe lost myths
The passages of history falsified and revised
From Ramses to Mandela, the truths that were killed
In ignoring the start, they wander aimlessly
Makeda was queen, beautiful and powerful
Solomon dreamed of her black skin
I sing to revive the memories
    To dig up the knowledge
That the spiral of time erases
The queen of Sheba lives in me
    Makeda lives in me.
    Revive our memories
    We must change history
    It's going adrift
    Adrift in words... no
The knowledge and the wisdom are to be carried in our hands
    Listen and observe
Makeda was queen, beautiful and powerful
Solomon dreamed of her black skin
I sing to revive the memories
    To dig up the knowledge
That the spiral of time erases
The queen of Sheba lives in me
    Makeda lives in me.
    My people dance and sing
    They exalt their joy
    Far from ignorance
    They show their faith
Rich in men and in value
We make up for the mistakes
Sons and daughters you and me
    Ready for battle
Makeda was queen, beautiful and powerful
Solomon dreamed of her black skin
I sing to revive the memories
    To dig up the knowledge
That the spiral of time erases
The queen of Sheba lives in me
    Makeda lives in me.

Yo. Isn't calling her a pretentious snob while dismissing her musical tastes also kinda hypocritical?

I so love this song! I remember when it first came out I was maybe 13 or 14 and was taking french in school. I used to try to understand what they were singing about. Still a lovely song after all this time!

bliss, this music transcends to a better place, and the depth of its lyrics.. sigh... this is what black music is meant to be, educative music with a soul.

The song is dedicated to the The Queen of Sheba (study Egyptian and Ethiopian history) In the song they are basically saying how she was a queen beautiful and strong (Makeda etait reine, belle et puissante). They saying how her essence lives within them despite how some have tried to bury those truths and make us believes they are just lost myths. They singing this song to bring knowledge and awareness to people about our REAL history.
