- Touch of Plain Bob Minor being rung on the steel bells of Chalford, on Saturday 18th November 2023.
Chalford, 6 Bells. Tenor: 8-2-8, in F#. dove.cccbr.org...
Note: This video has replaced my old one due to striking and video quality.
They sound more like clay flower pots than bells.
These definitely are in need to breaking up and recasting
I agree, especially the second. That's a semitone out of tune. Fundraising effort needed here, urgently.JH
@@jenlfpotter3870 I wonder if they would tune up ok
Not anymore
We are raising money, but only to have them restored and rehung. The bells are never gonna go.
The exercise would become a fair bit less interesting if novelty rings like these disappeared on a regular basis.
interesting slide bar on the tenor
it doesn’t look like it
That is a custom made slider, which was made and fitted in 1992 when the bells were last restored. It works very similarly to a Gillett & Johnston hasting slider. Where there isn’t a dingler on the stay like a JT hasting, but the slider is metal and slides back and forth on a greased metal bar.
ok
Is the tenor up wrong?
it appears to be flying from the correct side ! id say no
Nope. It’s up right
Maybe I’m looking at the wrong bell but the bell I’m watching is certainly up wrong as the clapper is falling with the swing of the bell and not flying with it.
@tittums It’s the time delay. Remember the bell is huge for its weight. It’s also very odd-struck. So one rotation, you can see it just starting to fly where it’s early, the other side it still looks like it’s on the wrong side where it hasn’t left yet
is it the bell on the top of the frame?
