I have an 84 Cutlass I saved from the scrapyard many years ago. It's great to see these old cars surviving. Please do more of this Monte, it's a real gem.
My friend had an 80 Cutlass beautiful vehicle he unfortunately passed away from a suicide in '09 to which his parents sold it for 800$. I really wanted it 😞
Good buys! I had an 87 SS in high school, they were underpowered but boy could it cruise and looked the part as a cruiser. Getting both a Monte and a GN is a hell of a score, Ive always liked them both.
This car has a tale to tell...over 36 years old the Monte Carlo SS ...the body looks beautiful....the Grand National looks gorgeous and a keeper yoo!!..thanks Randy for buying these cars 🚗 🎉😂
That is one car I would definitely keep and never get rid of. I passed up chance to buy one that was black all original for $1500 several years ago. I have always loved those cars.
As soon as I saw the inspection sticker on the windshield I knew where it was from. I lived in Concord about the time the car was sold at Banks. Even if it was stored for 20 years it's surprising it has so little rust. An interesting project with the new motor and transmission and a future owner can put it back the way it was if they want. No junk yard scavenging needed. Thank you for a great video. Power tour should be extra interesting next year.
It's nice as an original but it'd also be a great resto-mod candidate. You could buy a slightly used LS engine and transmission, do a swap, switch out the rear end, brakes, etc. I don't know how popular the SS's are in Oklahoma, but here in North Carolina everybody wants one. No matter what you decide to do with it, you've made a great purchase. 👍🇺🇸😎
My dad had one that looked similar & I loved it. Brings back awesome childhood memories. They traded it for a new 5.7 Iroc Z, in pull me Red lol. Nice find & purchase Randy 🙆🔥🔥🚘👍. 1987 my uncle bought a 442 & it was so cool as well . Congrats on the grand national🤘 can't wait to see it Randy. Salute 😎✌️
I would vote to keep that time capsule stock. I know it's not a power house, but they did have a top speed of around 142. That should stay stock and just a cruiser, but will still watch if you decide to do the swap.
This video made me smile, my first car was an 87 Olds Cutlass and I LOVE those old late 80's/early 90's GM vehicles. I'd love to see this one restored and worked on!
Hell yes, Randy. I love your plans for the SS and taking the SS and the Grand National both on the Power Tour would be awesome. I definitely think the SS is well worth saving. lol. I only live an hour from Concord NH.
Nice! My parents still have their original '83 base model MC (not SS). Only thing replaced in it was the engine about 30 years ago because it dropped a piston. I paid to have it up and running last year and the guy said it was in good shape for having sat for 15 years. It needs the vinyl top replaced, I want to replace the radio and paint, but otherwise I'm leaving it as is. It's a rarity.
Finally G Body content! I've been in love with these cars since I was a kid. I've got a 79 Hurst Olds Cutlass and I'm a kid all over again every time I drive it. I'm definitely looking forward to watching the build
Cool car, love those '80s GM rear wheel drive cars. The 383 would be a great improvement. I can't wait to see the progress. Makes me want to go find another 82 Malibu and fix it up.
I’m all for the 383 stroker! That’s exactly what I’d swap in one too, I’d put a 5 speed or 6speed tho but that’s just me. That 383 is gunna have a great chop to it, put a nice full header back exhaust too Randy.
Exactly 💯 what am running in my 86 t top 383 stroker thing is nasty love the g body had elcaminno before this ss but love the Supersport way more great find randy
That’s a really nice example it’s worth a complete repaint. I would definitely do a power upgrade however I would keep it as completely stock appearing as possible including the wheels they make the car . The wheels can be refinished or replacements can be found.
I bought a brand new one in 1984, my x and her husband still have it, factory stock 15000 original miles garage/ climate controlled since day one and has never even seen rain only taken for a ride on a warm sunny day, car is still Perfect and will be 40 years old in May, nice cars
Congratulations its a nice car. I graduated in 1985. I remember when those two cars came out in 1987. Our local mall had a new car show inside and both cars were on display. They both caught my attention. Thumbs up to you.
Maybe the air pressure being so high helped keep the tires round. I have a c4 corvette that I only drive in the summer and it takes several hundred miles to get the tires round. Someone told me to put high air pressure in them before parking to avoid flat spots. I was skeptical, but it may actually work
Monte SS was the first car I ever purchased as a teenager. It has been my unicorn since. I still own one today and I’m 40 now. I know them like the back of my hand. The gn has always been a dream car for me. I also have the 96 impala ss. A gn would be a dream complete collection lol. Anyway the key issue your having is common with them all. Adjusting the linkage always fixed it for me but the easier way of getting it out for me when they do that is to just turn the column with your hands and if you were putting it in park with a column shift. I’m thinking because I look these up so much RUclips recommended your channel but I’m glad it did I’m subscribing today.
Heck yeah to building this car for the Hot Rod Power Tour! Then after that event, keep it for yourself for a nice weekend cruiser, occasional car show. Best of luck with the build up on this one! @Auto Auction Rebuilds
Randy, send those original wheels out to be refurbished. They are very rare and desirable. I would leave those on because they set the car apart as being the newest model of the Monte. When you switch the wheels the car will look like an older model. Yes I know the taillights are different.
Randy I have to admit I havent watched your channel in a long time but I think your getting me back with this Monte Carlo SS!! I had one when I was 20. Anxious to see more videos on it.
That was the smart way to do it. The serpentine belt operates the major accessories and the A'C has its own V belt. If the compressor seizes you can cut the belt and get home.
My late neighbor had one of these. It was white with the red trim and he had a beige T top. I always loved this GM car. Man it was so enjoyable watching this video with you. I can't wait for the Grand National video to drop. Awesome find Randy.
Who ever own this car last has very good taste I am very impressed on how clean it looks and Randy I hope my manual helps you out big time with that1994 jawa sport :)
Was so excited for this since it was shown on Instagram! This is a beauty and you’ve gotten a couple 👀👀 this’ll be fun! Keep it up randy, I’m so excited l!!!!
Man I'm all for your choice on the upgrades. 383 stroker is far superior to that anemic 305. I remember test driving these cars new. They had no power. Don't worry about no vision haters. Keep on Rockin'.
These cars are coming back hard and growing in popularity and desirability. Those seeking an 80z car will love the unmolested beauty and charm of an all original Monte Carlo SS. I’m in the “keep it original” camp. Just my opinion.
Find yourself an 87 Grand Prix 2+2 and you’ve got the GM Trifecta, also love your plan for the Monte Carlo, too bad it wasn’t the Aerocoupe they’re more desirable. Sell the tires and rims as well, they’ll fetch a pretty penny to someone who wants to restore a Monte Carlo
You can't hurt the value of the Monte. Beautiful car. Love them. GM rear wheel drive v8. The last of the fuul frames also. Do what ever you want and give it a replay if it needs it when your done with the drive train. It's thar or do a complete reato., but it doesn't need it. It'll look great and kick ass with 400=425 horse with some Flowmaster. You know what time it is!
You absolutely can hurt its value… these are becoming collectible and if this one is as original as it sounds, that’s where its value it. Most of these were hacked up back when new… no need to hack up survivors today
Changing the motor will not hurt the value at all. When I did the one that I had I went for the ZZ4 350 cubic inch motor from jegs and put all the original valve covers etc air cleaner just so it looks stock. But either way sounds like it's going to be a good build and you did not get hurt on the price as far as I'm concerned
I put a 454 in my ‘85. Armchair “experts” told me it would ruin it’s value. The car had 94,000 miles and had been repainted, so it wasn’t like it was showroom clean 15k mile time capsule. Never mind that every single SS had the same L69 305, so there’s nothing rare or unusual about the power plant. I immediately started getting approached at cruise-ins and car shows about selling the car. The offers were significantly higher than anything I was offered when it was stock.
Agreed. The Monte has miles, repainted and far from original. I suspect the engine has been swapped anyway but Randy can check that. Would be annoying to store the running gear if it's not even original. A worked 350 or bored 383 would be good, but I'd like to see a 350 supercharge in this heavy boat.
My buddy had one of these in highschool he got it in 1989 for graduation present lucky dog. His was black with grey interior. I had s 70 dodge charger at the time we both graduated the same year and the same class. My other friend got a 87 buick GNX in 91 from his parents for college. Man i loved the gnx i would love to have a 70 buick GSX and a 87 GNX that would be to sweet.👍
yes, keep them sunglasses on as your future is very bright now being a lucky owner of a monte SS and a Buick GN. as long as you dont gut motor of the GN, bigger turbo is OK.
Great find Randy. Contact QA1 and see if they can help with some coil overs for it. Also, those cars didn't have an orange engine block. Have fun with this one and the GN. Gbodys rule!😂😂
awesome to see a g-body on the channel, love these, #1 issue on these is the rear frame rail sections under the trunk rotting, and getting stolen, my father about 15 years ago got a built 81 grand prix and was stolen within 2 weeks, never to be seen again
Awesome, I owned 2 of those 87's and loved them both. Also, the little things like working the column to get out the key I had forgotten until now. Awesome that you got a GN as well. Now you need a Hurst Olds to complete the set.
I owned a 1988 Monte Carlo SS with T-Top. The t-top was nice whenever the sun was low in the sky, but from late morning to early evening t-tops are just brutal.
Nice car Randy! Yea, no T Tops for me either. Sun roofs as well. Nothing but trouble! Definitely go with that 383 Stroker/Monster trans setup. Those 5.0 smog motors are complete dogs! That crap has to go! Screw the haters. I can't wait to see the next video when you get it up on the lift. I think you did great!
Love the idea of keeping the original engine and swapping a nice 383 stroker in it! Clean car and actually pretty good value for money. Plus you got all the documents from new and the manuals! Once you get this thing cleaned up it will be great for driving and power tour! Can't wait for more videos and not many Monte Carlos left like this are around. Great video Randy another sweet project!
Randy take off the hose leading to the cruise control and spray some silicone spray in it , it will remonstrance the diaphragm inside and should start working again . Also check fuse .
Love the "87" SS and always have as you can see. I have a stock Aerocoupe and would not think of modifying it from stock but that's me. You do you sir. That Monte would definitely be a force on the street with a 383 and the stock 3.73 gear. You should check that engine in the car now to see if it's a 305 or 350. Anyway you look at it, that Monte is a keeper for sure.
The most awesome car ever. You just became my favorite car guy. My dream car. You done amazing. That motor does good for what it is. My best friend had one an it was amazing
It is your car, you do what makes you happy. Having said that, I am not a big fan of modified cars. I like things as original as possible. I am looking forward to seeing that grand national though.
You got a good deal. Very good condition MC SS with 107k for $11,100 was a wise purchase. It is your car and you do what you want with it. Doesn't matter what others say. Sounds like a cool idea to build your dream car 🎉 🎉🎉. I loved the MC SS back in the late 80s. But with the 350 engine. Enjoyed this episode. Keep up the great job. God Bless America 🙏.
Good afternoon Randy! I would do the paint, striping and refinish the original stock wheels. KEEP THE ORIGINAL LOOK. However, I would definitely swap the engine for the 383!!!
Love these old Monte Carlo's! This one is a nice example of a survivor. Great purchase! If you do end up swapping that motor over to something better I would probably go with fuel injection rather than a carburetor at least for power tour. Better mpg and also just more turn key reliability. Only a recommendation, but at the end of the day it is your car! Cant wait for the Buick!
This is going to be an awesome video series Randy. Such cool cars and it’s the perfect one to “restomod” if you want to call your plan that. You should keep the stock look though. Original wheels, original radio(with a modern install in the glovebox). Looking factory fresh with big power would be perfect.
That mote carlo and the grand national is a dream come true, nice car collection specially that your going to upgrade the car good shoot there, enjoy those 2 car god bless you my friend , those 2 cars are like ones of my dream cars.
For your RUclips channel an engine swap will be very cool and interesting. However. I love originality so from that standpoint its sad. But you do what you do and we will all enjoy watching. Also, wouldn't the original owner know if that is the original motor? Look forward to the series
Not bad for a long parked, ‘87 vintage car! It seems almost a pity that you plan to swap out what appears to be an original engine still in good condition but I guess that will be part of the fun.
kEEP THE CAR AS IS . WHAT'S THE MATTER WITH YOU ! Why don't you cover the cars wings , when your messing around with break fluid ? Jesus !
I do it all just to piss you off you’re welcome
Keep it original just give it a fresh paint and keep the wheels and new tires I love that car it’s was my dad dream car back in the day

This Monte Carlo is such a rare breed. With a little bit of work, I can imagine it looking very nice.
It's very cool to be seeing some cool 80s cars on the channel
I love 80s cars
I’m 52 years old. That was one of my dream cars as a teenager. I still love them.
Good buys! I had an 87 SS in high school, they were underpowered but boy could it cruise and looked the part as a cruiser. Getting both a Monte and a GN is a hell of a score, Ive always liked them both.

Randy, all you need now to complete the g body set is a cutlass 442 with the lighting rod shifter 👍
That is one car I would definitely keep and never get rid of. I passed up chance to buy one that was black all original for $1500 several years ago. I have always loved those cars.
Sweet Monte Congratulations Can't Wait Too See You Bring It Back Too Life
I knew someone who had a Monte Carlo just like that they bought it new they have passed away four years ago they were nice cars

I learned to drive on a 80s Cutlass and have been in love with G body cars ever since. Cant wait to see these series of videos.
The 80s Monte Carlo SS and Grand National are the two cars I've always wanted in my life you are my hero Randy
Such a great car. My dad bought a black 85 right off the showroom floor. I loved driving that car!
Randy, I believe that Monte Carlo needs to be updated. It's a beautiful cruiser.
You know how many of us wanted one of those when we were young? Even NOW! Wish I could afford them!
I’m all for the 383 stroker! That’s exactly what I’d swap in one too, I’d put a 5 speed or 6speed tho but that’s just me. That 383 is gunna have a great chop to it, put a nice full header back exhaust too Randy.
Or a supercharged 350 as Randy has already got the gearbox sorted.

Hello Randy. The 1987 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS is a great looking car. Awesome looking interior
I had a 87 Buick t-type It was my favorite and fast in its day. The Monte Carlo is nice but not as fast as the Buick back then.
Monte SS was the first car I ever purchased as a teenager. It has been my unicorn since. I still own one today and I’m 40 now. I know them like the back of my hand. That was the smart way to do it. The serpentine belt operates the major accessories and the A'C has its own V belt. If the compressor seizes you can cut the belt and get home.
Love that ss. Monte Carlo I had an 86 silver good job buddy
I would like to see the Monte Carlo redone like you allways wanted one.
I'd be very interested in seeing that car restored and the powertrain upgraded. Cool.
My late neighbor had one of these. It was white with the red trim and he had a beige T top. I always loved this GM car. Man it was so enjoyable watching this video with you. I can't wait for the Grand National video to drop. Awesome find Randy.

the grand national is gonna be a crazy video one of my favorite cars of all time
I've been waiting all week for this!!!
Was so excited for this since it was shown on Instagram! This is a beauty and you’ve gotten a couple 👀👀 this’ll be fun! Keep it up randy, I’m so excited l!!!!
Hell yes, Randy. I love the idea of upgrading the engine.
I think the car and your plans are amazing. Who cares what other people think. Do what ever you want.
Cool car glad there is going to be an actual project on the channel!

That monte Carlo is so gorgeous. I wanted one of those back in the day.
yes, keep them sunglasses on as your future is very bright now being a lucky owner of a monte SS and a Buick GN. as long as you dont gut motor of the GN, bigger turbo is OK.
Hey Randy Like your idea don't forget. Unless it has Posi it won't grip. Good luck looking Forward to the Build.
I bet Lucky's jealous watching that car run down the road 😂
Nahh he is pretty supportive of others in the area. He doesnt have any trouble finding cars when he wants
I like that car and I like to get a 1/18 scale car like that car .

I think you did great!
Really like your plans for the Monte SS!! I can’t wait to see the planned changes!! Love it!!
It’s a full frame car, they road very nice. Drive it the way it is, shame to chop it all up. Great find though 👍
It's just my opinion I believe those wheels have always looked good on that car. I would leave them on it.
I think he should take the stock 305 and run a chain through the rear 2 cylinders and it can keep the dock from floating away on Fairy Lake!
What a big surprise a new engine with more Power wowwww that's perfect 👍 now that's a project 😃
I love this car. If I did not have my Lincoln Mark VII, I would like to have one of these. Congrats on the purchase.
Wow Randy like the idea of the 383 strokes! And a GN too that’s awesome! Can’t wait to see them side by side!
Randy take off the hose leading to the cruise control and spray some silicone spray in it , it will remonstrance the diaphragm inside and should start working again . Also check fuse .

You should check that engine in the car now to see if it's a 305 or 350. Anyway you look at it, that Monte is a keeper for sure.
I approve of the powertrain swap. She deserves the ability to be more powerful
Beautiful Car Randy Good project I love the body style I agree with you about the T Tops I use to have a 86 Oldsmobile cutlass supreme
The most awesome car ever. You just became my favorite car guy. My dream car. You done amazing. That motor does good for what it is. My best friend had one an it was amazing
The 383 will be dope
I can't wait to see that car done. Hope you can share a lot of the process as it goes. I'm a big fan of the channel keep the all some content coming
It is your car, you do what makes you happy. Having said that, I am not a big fan of modified cars. I like things as original as possible. I am looking forward to seeing that grand national though.
The monte, a G.N. All you need is a clean IROC and youll have every cool 80's cars made!
You could swap carburetors/ Manifold. Might need hood scoop.
Dual Exhaust - No cat.
Partial Engine rebuild new Cam.
Turbo????
Could make a difference.
My honest thoughts is she is a beautiful car, I personally think any mods or leaving her as she is will be amazing,
I personally think for a one owner car that is in really nice shape you got a good deal on it
Yes I wanted to see so bad!! CONGRATULATIONS Randy!! 🎉🎉 Love them!
Original radio rebuild then get a plug in for Bluetooth and use phone.
Awesome job on getting the Monte Carlo SS. Keep up the great work.
That mote carlo and the grand national is a dream come true, nice car collection specially that your going to upgrade the car good shoot there, enjoy those 2 car god bless you my friend , those 2 cars are like ones of my dream cars.
Love the idea randy really hope you stick with them both and hope no one discourages you look forward to powertour 2024 keep up the good work 👍
For your RUclips channel an engine swap will be very cool and interesting. However. I love originality so from that standpoint its sad. But you do what you do and we will all enjoy watching. Also, wouldn't the original owner know if that is the original motor? Look forward to the series
I think you got a good deal. The 305 had the HO option and actually makes good power..
As a temporary set up for the exhaust before swapping the engine put a set of vibrant bottle mufflers and a set of flowmaster outlaws
Not bad for a long parked, ‘87 vintage car! It seems almost a pity that you plan to swap out what appears to be an original engine still in good condition but I guess that will be part of the fun.
