an open circuit is a open circuit and a short is a short , 2 diffrent types of probelm , open circuit means break in the circuit , (or faulty sensor if on the ecu side of things ) short circuit means a wire is touching down on another wire somwhere or a live feed is shorting to ground some where
Excellent description and demonstration of the ECT3000 for finding shorts...!! Good to hear (and see!) what to expect from the receiver unit when a short is detected (short LED lighting up and the tone). ...Though the manual says it, it was also great to see that the direction arrows point to the short regardless of which way the receiver is oriented (parallel) to the wires (unless you have non-standard vehicle ground-polarity - per the manual)... Overall great job ! Explanation and video work ! Thanks !!
i dont mean to be so offtopic but does anyone know a tool to get back into an instagram account? I was stupid lost my password. I would love any tricks you can give me.
@Boston Kane I really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff now. Takes quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
I have the early power probe kit with the signal tracer just has leds not arrows but works in the same fashion has saved me a lot of time in the past that is for sure.
I'm about to do some electrical work on my CL500 Mercedes this gadget here definitely save me a lot of time and a lot of money could not wait to get one thank you so much for the video it was very helpful because my car is becoming the nightmare right now thanks so much
I used it to find a short to ground on my classic 1979 Jeep CJ. It failed to trace the short in the loom harness that runs above the steering wheel running from the fuse box to the fuel gauge. Probably works okay when there are just a few wires in the harness.
2nd time watching your video. at the end, I wish you would have shown us the procedure where you open the wiring. and show how to actually use the Probe to locate the broken wire.
if i don't have the blade probe, can i use the included plain wire adapter instead? Also how do you know which side of the fuse area is incoming or outgoing power?
This was very poorly explained for us. Considering if we dont do it right we xan rell mess things up expensively! Since i had same question and its clear theyre not gonna answer us... i founf this ... ruclips.net/video/qBbOZu59rhw/видео.html. This kind of explains it.
1. Should I use the ect3000 equipment after disconnecting the +, - terminal of the battery? Can I use the ect3000 without disconnecting the car +, - terminal? 2. Can I use the ect3000 equipment while the car is turned on? It was easy to watch the video because your voice was pretty Thank you😊
In my 73 Fleetwood, I have a short in my cigarette lighter circuit. This 25A fuse powers the lighter, all interior lamps (courtesty, map, glove box, clock). The short seems to be under the dash. My head is near the gas pedal and I'm an old man. It's cramped. The harnesses are thick and I will have to tear into them HOPING I find the short. It's a LOT of work, and this assumes I'm at the right spot.
@@markcoe69 Yes. I put in the fuse after spending hours searching for or a false positive. Everything I didn't cut out of the circuit lit up. The short was in a clock which was part of the circuit. The ECT unit is really a toy. Gives way too many signals and false readings.
Please help with any comments! I just inserted the signal lead into the fuse and the transmitter converted over to short and had a constant beep. I followed the arrows with the receiver and then took off some insulation of the wire. I put the insert back into the fuse location and now it’s not changing over to short. It’s doing nothing
It would have been helpful if she showed the Actual short and the repair in the video as well. Otherwise there is no evidence that the short was actually located. Also, it’s very convenient that this short occurred in a harness that is very straight for most of its length since the probe wants to be next to it and parallel to the wires. I’m skeptical of how well it works when tracing a harness that is full of twists and turns like the majority of them are.
I ran across this randomly on Amazon looking for piercing probes. Then found your video demonstrating it. Looks like a pretty neat tool. Now that you’ve had it for a while, what do you think? I’m not very good with electrical, so don’t know that I’d take the plunge just yet. But since I work on school buses, I bet this sucker would come in handy (LOTS of added electronics, in case you didn’t know already lol).
This tool originally debuted over a decade ago. It's nice, but very quirky and inconsistent. Especially on automobiles who have wiring looms with 40-60 wires, and sometimes these circuits have splices in them. A splice will throw the tool off. I've heard it's much better to use in the trucking and boating industries which have simpler wiring. Trailers especially.
This tool signal wire can connect with positive B+ wire or wire connect with ecm or bcm can possible to track wire. Today I to track wire connecting with electronic controller this tool can't work. And remove battery both wire and check this tool can track if your wire connection with electronic controller
Anyone having the short light turning on (in search for a short, it seems good) but quickly, it changes to open... other circuits turns open light on directly... I'm taking any idea 😁
But the first one that came out for 300 dollars really upset didn't work at all stills brand new haven't put it in the garbage because it was so expensive even got the training vas don't know how that one works now but till I try it personally wouldn't recomenb
I will definitely take that into consideration. I appreciate the feedback. My daughter does know her stuff. She’s good at what she does. Extremely dedicated and motivated to the automotive industry.
It talks about that in the instructions. It is kind of useless in larger harnesses is my understanding. Unless you can separate the known trouble circuit to prevent the signal coupling into good wires it doesn't really help much as far as I know. The power probe is super nice for component testing though. For broken corroded wire issues connecting to both ends of the circuit with an ohm meter and carefully wiggling the harness to find the bad spot has worked best in my experience.
Thank you!!!!! Finally, someone who actually knows what a short is. In other videos, they call an open circuit a short.
an open circuit is a open circuit and a short is a short , 2 diffrent types of probelm , open circuit means break in the circuit , (or faulty sensor if on the ecu side of things ) short circuit means a wire is touching down on another wire somwhere or a live feed is shorting to ground some where
Yup, I was having the same problem finding a video for how to use this for a short. Most videos are for an open circuit.

@Boston Kane It did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. Im so happy!
Thank you so much you saved my ass !
@Dario Thomas Happy to help :)
Just bought my ECT 3000 and reading the directions and Girl you is awesome 👏 🤓😘
Thank you so much. I really appreciate the positive feedback.

Should have shown the short.
A nice very clear explanation of how this works
I just got one of these for my Kenworth.. thank you for a great tutorial
We are glad you enjoyed the video. Thank you so much for your comment and view it is much appreciated.
Extremely well explained best video on the web!!!
Wow thanks I was very old school... but this will make my life so much easier.... amazing this saves me so much time....

Sounds like you need to adjust the sensitivity
Cool! Neat to see another lady interested in this stuff :)
I love cars and building engines. It’s an awesome feeling.
Love the for the tutorial, thanks. Can the 3000 also connect to a relay and trace a short?
What kind of dark sorcery is this? hehehe awesome. Thanks for demonstration.
Lol

Thank you for making this video. Ive been hunting something for this.
Thank you exelent I learning more and more every day

I appreciate the positive feedback. Glad we could help out.
Thanks for teach how it work
Your welcome. I hope it helped you out.
What is the input impedance (internal. resistance) of Power Probe 3?
Good demonstration
Thank you for the positive feedback
Thank you for the class
I subscribed when i heard a female talking , i am proud of you working on cars
My passion is cars. I love tearing down an engine and doing a full rebuild. I hope you subscribed. Love to hear from you again.
Thank you, are the light switch on?
Awesome explanation!
So if I provide 12 v to the device I could also use this on a non powered house wire to find a short ?
Great demo!
Thank you for your great review. Please follow along. I upload at least 10 videos per week.
Great finally found right video thanks
Thank you for the positive review
U made it look easy
1. Should I use the ect3000 equipment after disconnecting the +, - terminal of the battery?
Can I use the ect3000 without disconnecting the car +, - terminal?
2. Can I use the ect3000 equipment while the car is turned on?

Thank you😊
Awesome! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for the positive review. I really appreciate it.
Thank you I just got my today 👍
Thank you for a good review. Let me know if I can help out in any other way.

Would have liked to see the actual short, now I am not convinced. Sorry!
Thank you !
Great video 🤙
good video. thnks. I'm sold gonna buy one
Thank you for your comment. We hope you like the ECT3000 as much as we do.

Good job. Tnks
always connect to load or outgoing side?
Do you have any issues with the signal coupling into good wires in larger harnesses? How many wires are in the harnesses you are tracing in the video?
Good 👍
Great feedback. Thank you

what if I am looking for an intermittant problem, how would i use this to find it?
better to use a scope for those intermittent issues

Can i track a bad ground

Someone in another comment said disconnect battery and only power the circuit you're after! I'm pretty sure that would help with a bigger loom
Man this video sure is being dragged out wow
