It's great to get a larger home but it's also a consideration of how to afford it (taxes, upkeep etc) after you buy it. If you keep what you have already or only upgrade a bit then you can relax and know that you won't have to scrimp & save forever.
@@citizencan4444 They lost it all. Had some bad luck (fire, recession) seems like he was just as much at fault and she was actually the worker. (he wanted them both to quit work)

Roger and Lara bought a house for £600,000, then spent thousands on renovations. Only 8 years later the business went bust, the investment properties bombed, the 1.8 million was gone, and so was the marriage. They predictably blamed each other. The mistake was giving up work and thinking under 2 million would keep a family of 4 indefinitely.
For the couple expecting a baby, right from the start, that 1st house, the semi victorian was my favourite. Yes, it was on a busy road & wasn't detached like the cottage & reno house but it had a lot going for it. It was open plan, nice & airy (skylights in the bathroom), it didn't have a garage but there was packing space, it was 55k below budget so they would be saving a lot especially with a baby coming, it was perfectly move in ready. It had everything & i am happy the other two didn't work out because i would have easily chosen that property. For the 2nd couple, i didn't like that 2nd house on a busy road they initially wanted to go for. I would have gone for the 3rd one in the wealthy neighbourhood. I am happy the got cold feet for that one & it seems they ended up with something way better.
At last . Decent houses to look at. I’ve watched Kirstie and Phil for years because I liked them. But then stopped. I got tired of poor houses. This is a brilliant chan😮. Thank you ❤
Update... since this programme was shown, Roger started and bankrolled a band. That failed. The house was mortgaged. Now repossessed. The children had to leave their private school. The pamper and spa business failed. Luckily the new owner employed Lara. Roger didn't tell her about their home being repossessed, he just left them to it and went to his parent's. Sadly they're now divorced. And bankrupt.
They can't do a 2022 update on all of the couples who have ever appeared on the show though, lol. The show's been around for 22 years. That's a lot of couples.
@@Kevin-sm8pn Of course not, but to visit again 3-4 couples, those that perhaps have been revisited previously, would be like seeing an old acquaintance and catching up.
Sad to say that they were divorced and pretty much penniless six years after this house hunting video! They made some bad investments, coupled with an expensive house fire and a lot of frivolous spending! Unfortunately, £1.8 million sounds like a lot, but doesn’t go far if you aren’t careful 🤷♀️
That white Victoria is so cute, they are lucky to only loose 25K on the house when the housing market crashed. It was way were here in the US. My parents switched jobs in 2006 and paid top dollar for a new house. The market sunk so low even after 10 years the house they bought was still $50k less than they paid for. I think now in 2024 the house would be worth $100K more than that 2006 purchase price.
God bless them a million eight is alot but it can go fast ! The more expensive house has higher taxes, maintenance costs and driving a junker and living in a mansion makes little sense. Better to buy nice, modest and put some savings aside. Then you can move up later on Well, they bought a house all right, quit their jobs and got a divorce. All the $ gone
Of the lottery winners, I think the guy is just not happy with the houses because he expects to be totally blown away on his budget - and he's not being so blown
The problem with winning the lottery is holding on to the money, because without good tax, and investment planning you can burn right through it, in a couple of years. Forget houses, first look at investments, and where to live to reduce the tax bite. The Isles of Man comes to mind where the tax take is a max of 20%, so if you invest your winnings well, you get to keep 80% of your return, the other good thing it has going is that you can build your dream house, and not be tied up in UK planning regs. Staying on the UK mainland is really a non starter tax wise, and housing wise, given its inflated market, and tax structure.
That’s fine but then you would be making other compromises to make up for it. For every compromise you’re not willing to make, you have to give up at least two other things that are important to you.
omg Sophie looks so much younger and prettier as a blond. Red is not for her, she looked so much older than him before. Also I knew the first house was the right one for them.
@@North49191I disagree. It can be used as a bargaining tool and if the sellers refuse to budge on price, then that’s fine. Just walk away and move on to the next house.
Spoiler alert before you read the rest of my comment as i say where the lottery couple now are and what happened. Just a few years after this they lost all their money and he said he had just £7 left. They split up. The two of them spent huge amounts on designer gear and sports cars,, holidays in Dubai and Rome, champagne. She also spent money on plastic surgery to her face, particularly her lips and she now looks dreadful - such a shame as she was an attractive woman. I don't know what happened re the house they bought, but for the sake of their kids I hope they at least got something from that and were able to live ok, but somehow I doubt it.
