Whoever thought Sons of 1984 would be an oldie? Where did the last 50 years go?
I was at this concert with my bandmates and I remembered when he asked us all to sing and be part of his recording. Their is a photo on his album showing the audience at Central Park. The best of times.
omg how koooool!!!!
My dad had that album. Now it’s mine. Still got the poster that came inside that album too. Everyone who had sent in names or something like that.
My name is on the poster.
I was also there. Great show.
I was at this show and sang on the song Sons of 1964 - along with a few thousand other audience members (I'm in the Right Channel!)
Son’s of 1984 you mean
Wait a minute, I WAS THERE! We hitch hiked from Hartford, CT. Took a train back to CT (next morning I think?) I was in high school. Don’t remember anything about the music!
Todd's music just makes you feel good
Todd always helps me through the day and gives me hope in the future 🌎
Man this puts me in a good mood ..just a reminder that todays music can’t compare.
Todd Rundgren it's definitely a wizard and the true star
What a multitalented man!
Phenomenal Todd, our true wizard, simply the best!❤❤🎉🎉
Bebe.... Everybody's there Todd is just a magical person... Look at how everybody's dress too...
Proud to state I have the same birthday as this genius, every year I raise a toast on June 22 in his honor 🥂
the way my mans could transition from prog rock to ballads seamlessly... such a genius with so much range
Stay tuned- he’s still around, you know!
one of my Favorites
😢When he goes I hope people will give him the send off he deserves.
Amazing Saturday morning in August of 1973. It was a blast and could even see my friend's Gary Shames and my picture on the album Todd!
Todd. Gotta love him. A massive part of the soundtrack of my life.
Still can’t believe I saw Todd on tour may 17th :0 My girl and I were probably the youngest people there but idc hahah, he’s my favorite musician fr
I was there that day. I’ll never forget it!
Dude were you really there and by the way what is the name of this song... Everybody looks so communal and happy, 🤠🤠🤠
I was there too, I'm the guy with the green hair!
I was there too. Great to hear Son's of 1984 again
I was there too - serendipity- was just walking through with friends & ended up in a pic on the album ! Such wonderous times. Glad I grew up back then 😍
This is magnificent. The photo from the Todd record which was captured on this day hung in my bedroom throughout my high school days. Never thought I’d see any live footage from this day. Also caught a glimpse of a young Michael Brecker on stage!
So thankful for the cities Todd built in my head through my life and Utopia 😎
A wizard and a true star!
"Love is the Answer". 👍♥️✌️🤟👊💪
Miss those days!
Love Todd ❤ master musician, singer and songwriter.
Priceless! Love watching this Young Wizard. Todd at work, 26 yrs old. Thank you for sharing, Gail!!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟❤❤❤
25.
💕💕💕💕
I was there.
Suddenly everything becomes magic at a Todd performance 🪄🧙♂️ Magical Music 🎼 Rocklove! ArtyThan ☆♡☆
I was there, kind of. I was a kid staying at the Essex House in NYC with my family. Me and my brother took a walk with my older brother-in-law and heard the music while walking near the park. My BIL was trying to single handedly stop crime in the park (LOL). We saw someone trying to steal a motorcycle. He told the guy it was his friend's and he should be back any minute. We stood there for a while and then I am sure they stole it after we left. Anyway, I remember hearing the Utopia Theme.
Absolutely Astounding ☮️❤️
Todd playin the Fool SG!!!
Good eye
"The Fool" SG 🌟🌟🌟
Thank You!!!!! I was just 12/13 too young to go,.....major Todd Lover since not too long after this and am grateful to see this footage from NYC
city in my head, Utopia!
Wow ! Priceless footage Gail ! Nice job adding the audio . 🥂's to the good old days , and great times @ The Schaefer Music Festivals ! Thanks for sharing this . 😎
I didn't know how good a guitar player until the Utopia album
I’m pretty sure he played guitar in his old band NAZZ and before that the band woodys truck stop
Bebe Buell... smokin' hot!
Great footage. I was a regular at the Shaefer shows. I saw Utopia there in the late 70's.
I was also there for the recording of “Another Live” in August of 1975. I remember the performance of The Wheel like it was yesterday. I’m one of a few thousand people you can hear clapping at the end of The Wheel, as can be heard on the vinyl. That memory is priceless!
this is just unbelievable never knew this footage existed many thanks for posting this gem wow
Strange.....always come back to this sensible gay and his beautiful songs. Dream goes on forever, such a beauty, thanks for all those 40 years pure pleasure.
What do you mean gay? I think you are projecting.
thanks Gail! Just realized you published this. Awesome. He even has a dog on the stage. LOL
Thanks for this. Priceless.
GREAT FOOTAGE OF MY FAVORITE LINEUP OF UTOPIA! I STILL wish he would go back to that three keyboard lineup!
Omg I was punished I couldn't go to this. Thanks for uploading. Todd knows. This is great!
Thank you for sharing this! I saw that concert in Pittsburgh. It was great seeing Moogy in this video!
Awesome♥️🎼🎶🎵🇨🇦
Love seeing this old film. Thank you Gail.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️Priceless! Thank you for sharing!
Gail you made my Monday, heck the whole week....
Wow at the orange tube top hottie with the little dog @8:35. She is probably retired and living in Boca Raton now.
Great job Gail !
Thanks for all your hard work and dedication !
👏👏
😎🌟
1973 !!!!!
Incredible footage. Thanks for sharing.🎶
That’s great stuff!
Thank you for this. My devotion (dare I say worship) to Todd/Utopia at this point was so deep. This clip makes me feel tinges of that time.
Christ! Lost footage of a live event that was a distant myth for me at the time, age 17 in the UK, handling the vinyl LP that resulted. Reading the names of those on the innervsleeve and imaging the audience participation. Magic memory. Was that Utopia number being debuted? I hear now a Mahavishnu influence in Todd's furious guitar sound.
That's a young Michael Brecker in there!
THANK YOU SO MUCH !!! THIS IS MY FAVORITE LIVE TODD SONG ❤❤❤❤❤
wow...michael brecker on sax
Total Genius
Well done on improving the audio !
Super 8 had no audio track. Love the audio track inserted at the right time during this sound check.
Thanks it was fun trying to find audio that would of kinda went
@@TheGB1950 Very well done! Thanks for the memories!
that's The Fool SG CLapton had, and Todd still has it i think
Remember seafarer jeans😂 a sign of the 70s👍
Wasn’t this the Wilmen Rink concert where they took the photo of the audience and put it on the rear cover of the Todd album? My older brother was there dead center.
I think so Wollman Rink 1973
(Rundgren recorded this live at a free concert he set up at Wollman Rink in Central Park on August 25, 1973, and used the audience to create the choir. The concertgoers were given lyric sheets with the chorus and asked to sing along - Rundgren rehearsed them a few times and then did a few recordings. After getting what he needed for the song, he proceeded with the show. A photo from the event appears on the back cover of the album.
The Central Park audience was used on the right channel in the mix during the chorus; the left channel is another audience from a similar concert Rundgren put on in San Francisco's Golden Gate park on September 9, 1973. This means when you listen to the song on headphones, you're hearing the West Coast crowd in your left ear and the East Coast in your right, a geographically accurate representation symbolic of the nation. The collective choir is credited as "The First United Church Of The Cosmic Smorgasbord.")
Yep. My brother is dead center with his teenage girlfriend
Wow, after ALL THESE YEARS of trying to check out the hot looking chic with the hot pants on you mainly see in an upside down mirrored shot standing on stage next to Todd on the back of the "TODD" record - THERE SHE IS, CLOSE UP AND IN LIVING COLOR and even hotter looking than imagined. And she brought her dog!? thank you - yes, and to the past!
Chick's \ girls were smokin' hot then 🔥🔥
50TH ANNIVERSARY TODAY
Thank you so much for sharing this i've known about the existence of this concert for many, many years But I've never seen footage of it before. It was fascinating to see the songs that were new back then
where does the time go?
Met him once,,as he jumped into a limousine,,I was just about to say I liked his music,,, l ate dust instead
Oh my gosh!! Sons of 1984! I understand that the song was mastered using an audience from New York and another audience from L.A. Correct?
天才トッドラングレン❤今の音楽はクソが支配しているに過ぎない😂何も新しい事を認めず過去に囚われた囚人はされ!
Holy Spumone< I didn't know there was Video for this! Thanx!!! Bibi's back stage too. (Edit: Oops... This isn't actually synced with the Audio. It's just random Video from the event. Still fun though. Most of the Audio is from the album, "Todd." 1: 41 What's the audio from? It would be cool to try to actually sync it.)
I listed the recordings under the video and where I got them from. The only track actually from this show is Sons of 1984
Green haired M Frog Labat!
Is that Furburger up there???!!!
No u weren't my friend Helen Graves.. thought it was later. I was there. On the rocks wellman rink.. 11 yes old
I don't understand the dubbing of audio from different shows onto the Central Park performance video.
I don't believe there is any recordings from that show other than the track The Sons of 1984, so I just tried to find tracks that were from the same year and had the feel of that era.
it's from an 8mm recording with no audio
Is that M. Frog Labat on that synth? This would be the first run at the Utopia band, right?
I like the songs, even though there’s been absolutely no attempt to sync them to their proper places in the video. Wondering if we could hear a version of this video with the original sound left in place?
I don't think the original footage had any audio. but yes it would be great to hear the actual audio.
he’s got the famous fool guitar out there for couldn’t i, which is kind of mocking clapton by playing power pop 😂🎉
Well it would be nice if any of the audio was actually synched with the video 🙄
Just curious... how many mailed in the postcard from AWATS? I did. I was 14.
I didnt but should have !! Had the"TOOD" vinyl with that graphic of Todds face with the list of those who did .First show was UTOPIA at Bushnell Auditorium Hartford Ct 1975 . Unbelievable performance !The Crowd was STUNNED When we entered the theater " Flamingo " was playing through the PA A hush came over the crowd and then WHAMO ! UTOPIA! .
Correction . It was not "Flamingo " it was " Drunken Blue Rooster " The last few minutes of which is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever created ( with the possible exception of Maurice Ravel )
How many ways can I say it?
Like ten people crowding him as he plays piano ?
A Wizard a True Star! ✌️
Who’s on Todd’s shirt?
@@sputnickspooner3730 😊
john Lennon Beatles
@@louiesalinas4720what does it say?
Is this Fool Guiter of EC ?
Yes Gifted to EC from George Harrison ...
Actually Harrison passed it to Jackie Lomax. Todd purchased from Lomax for $500 along with the right to buy it back which he never did. I believe Rundgren auctioned it through Sotheby’s.
1984... NOT 1964!!!!!
Bebe buell on the stage.
Todds girlfriend at the time.
Is that bb
Michael Breaker!
Ok. Sound and film don’t match up. Nice try
