The release of Candy Apple Grey represented a watershed moment in American rock. The first hardcore record put out by a major label. This is the best electric song on a superlative record.
The version that would have appeared on Metal Circus. Though it sounds to me like Bob would have polished it up more if this arrangement had ended up on the record.
I like the sound of the demo except that it is clearly just a demo and lacks passion. It's really just an unpolished run through/practice. The glockenspiel sound is cool. The Candy Apple Grey version is the one to listen to.
Actually this sounds like the descendents' sound when they turned to shit. This sounds just like them starting on 'everything sucks'. This is a sellout sound that has been done timeless times by rem and other jangly pop bands. THis song right here has NO passion, emotion, feeling. The punk edge is gone, it sounds old, worn out, and ready to go to sleep. That perfectly illustrates what husker du would become starting on Flip Your Wig and getting worse and worse on Candy Ass Grey and especially on Sellout Warehouse Stories. Like I said many times before, this band should have retired after New Day Rising, their last real punk record. The last record they even made as far as I'm concerned. get this shit off my computer screen!
***** It's only narrowmindedness when it conflicts with YOUR fucking opinion obviously. Too bad! X out of it, ignore it, forget about it. And forget about REM, errr Husker Du, from 1986 on...>
This is such a pseudo-elitist comment. Most bands, like people themselves, develop into a more refined, mature version of themselves. Change is inevitable; If I wanted to hear “New Day Rising,” guess what? I’ll put on that specific record. Warner brothers gave them extensive creative freedom to do what they wanted to do with their sound, so I’m not convinced in any way that this was a move to “sell out,” but even if it was intended to capitulate to a broader audience, it was their prerogative to do so. I am so tired of people like you who act as though you’re some kind of arbiter or gatekeeper. I’ll take “Eiffel Tower High” and “No Reservations” and so many other wonderful gems from those two WB discs as opposed to your goofy, snobbish opinion. Thanks anyways!
Appreciate the fact that you can hear the bass in this one
Husker Du is one of the greatest rock and roll bands in the history of the world!
Bob's flat delivery actually works for this song. the weariness matches the lyrics.

the record is hardly hardcore, neither was Flip Your Wig before that
Thanks for posting this
Glad you like!
