Interesting account that this teacher gives. I am an atheist transhumanist, and at 23, have experienced a lot of the same things that this gentleman has. I too was raised Catholic with a very devout mother, and attended Catholic school, and even was raised in the state of Indiana about an hour and a half from this gentleman's hometown, which I have traveled to with my poetry group for presentations at their library. This was a very interesting video series for me. I did not know much about Islam before, and my (Catholic) university class that I took called, "Eastern Christianity and the Convergence with Islam" was taught by a biased professor who was an Eastern Orthodox Christian himself. This bias, and media bias that is fairly obvious to notice, bothered me. I wanted to hear a Muslim's side of the story about Islam, and I did not have anyone that I could talk to about it. On Facebook, I made friends with Hadeel from Egypt and she showed me a different side of Islam. I am a curious person and I always like to hear why people believe what they believe and try to understand others and the world around me. I thought maybe in this video I could isolate the specific reason this gentleman became Muslim, but I think I will have to read the Quran to really see what it says and how it answers the questions atheists have.
I would suggest using reason and logic when encountering some Muslims, and try to go straight to the source to get a clearer picture. Funny how "Muslims" are ALWAYS looking for guidance, not just non Muslims, it is a never ending quest. Also, follow reason and logic over pure superstition and mythology.
I never actually got around to reading the Quran. Personally, the answers I'm looking for are not "Truth of the universe" kind of answers, but "How do people think, and how did they get where they are mentally" kind of answers.
+Sheila Hite you'll be surprised what you'd come across,it's not your average book, it's much different! And knowing Arabic is kind of important as well! the Qur'an teaches in a way unlike any other book in existence.
Unfortunately i don't have the time or the means to learn another language right now. That's just not going to happen. I might get around to reading the English translation.
+Sheila Hite I think the English translation robs a lot of meaning and words, but you can still do without mastering Arabic, it's my 1st language and I still stumble in it.
@usurynation I truly appreciate your comment, it is always refreshing to see people enlightened with an open mind. Especially when you are an atheist as you said since many atheists brag about it with such a narrow minded arrogance as if attacking religion is supposed to make them look intelligent.

Islam like anyother religion is open to interpretation and many find their own personal truth whether their born into it or convert. I wish more Muslims were non-voilent but the religion lends itself too well to voilent interpretation leading to voilent cultures.

It seems pretty clear to me that this guy was an atheist for all the wrong reasons. (emotional, past experience.) His questions were not logical ones, and because he was clearly guided by emotion and not logic, he found the answers he was looking for;( Just my thoughts.
I appreciate the intent of this interview, but would like to have heard more from this interesting guest. The interviewer has an agenda, which is perfectly valid, but unfortunately it prompts him to often to interrupt his guest to rephase his answers in ways that suited him better, or sometimes just to propound his beliefs. It would have been more respectful to this very articulate person to tell his story as he chose. But thank you for getting this information out. It's all new to me.
I really like the story of this convert/revert. But I really wish the interveiwer would shut up. He was acting as if its him whose story we're listening to. And he kept interrupting the guest who I wanted to hear more from!
i already told u that i dnt no bout that hadith n i cudn find it anywhere so like i said il get back to u on that, or i il try n ask a professional on hadith =]
n by the way lol "sayed" isnt his name lol his names ammar nakshawani, the ppl who r called a sayed means that their lineage dates back to the prophet (pbuh)
My wife is one of Jehovah's Witnesses. She actually respects Judaism and islam more than mainstream Christianity. You guys actually follow the exact teachings of the Qur"an without the paganism that crept into most Christian religions. I would love to have dialouge with you folks and I may attend a Mosque. The problem is that I dont speak Arabic.
this is my opinion bout surah 2: 189-94, n if i do say something wrong then its coz thats wat islam is, its coz i may not hav the correct knowledge bout it, anyways, verse 189, refers to fasting, read the previous verses i guess, 190, when it says "do not exceed limits, meaning dnt kill women, children, elderly, n so on, only kill the oppressors, n if any of the oppressors stop, they r to b taken back to their familes unharmed. thats wat those verse r bout, ask a sayed n hel tell u even better
if non muslims were considered second class to muslims, then y did the prophet (pbuh) hav soooooooo much respect 4 a christian in arabia known as hatim a 'ta' i (arabic name, not sure how u spell it lol) n this hatim n his son 3adi, became 1 of the closest companions of the propher (pbuh) n imam ali (as)
well 4 me if someone helped at a homeless shelter, i wud respect him, but i wud advice the person to drink less to avoid any harm when driving, i wudn judge the person, i cnt judge unless i no the person 100%, if i didnt no the guy then i cnt judge =]
Religious people make me so cross. They're always on about opening your mind as if that facilitates an awareness of god. On the contrary, if your mind were truly open, you wouldn't accept anything on faith. Acceptance of any religion of any kind is a sure sign of a closed mind.
u can go onto his site, js google "sayed ammar nakshawani" then go to the 1st site u c, then click on "lecture library", then click on any of the lecture seasons n in each 1 there r 10 or 11 lol 1 that id recommend to u is this "the similarities between prophet jesus (pbuh) and imam ali (as)" very interesting 1 =] and also 1 called "jesus and the heavenly food"
Religions do not teach violence, but they do tell us how to defend oneself, which is a very normal behaviour. Allah SWT (God) created this whole universe for the service of this humane being, but He created hemans for himself. So that they can recognise the creator and then submit oneself to Thy service and worship. That is why Allah SWT sent different prophets for the guidance of the humane being, so that they can tell us who God is and what is the purpose of our creation.
I don't speak Arabic either, it's ok :D . Have faith and go into one of the Mosques I am certain you will find a brother or a sister that can help you.
funny how i hav friends who r muslims, christians n jews lol i even hav a friend of mine in my class at college whoz an atheist lol hes an open minded person lol we talk n talk n talk bout stuff to do with religion n so on lolll very good guy =]
verse 136 is very clear loll "O you who believe! believe in Allah and his Apostle and the Book which is revealed to His Apostle and the Book which he revealed before (hmm i wonder wat book who could b talkin bout lolll) ; and whoever disbelieve in His and His apostles (plural wrord loll cud mean 4 all the other prophet that came b4 mohommed) and the last day, he indeed strays off into a remote error" its very clear lol n also read the verse b4 that =] to b cont lol
The questions is, do u believe in only one God with no partners associating with him, all his prophets, angels, books and the day of judgement ... Calling names of different religion doesn't really fills that hole.
@AhmedsCorner PLZ STOP CALL UR BROTHER IRRITATING, HE'S A VERY GD HOST, HE COVERS MOST GROUNDS WITH MANY IMPORTANT QUESTIONS SO THAT VIEWERS WITH LESSER AND GREATER UNDERSTANDING CAN ALL UNDERSTAND THE INTERVIEW, AND A TRUE MUSLIM LEARN THIS FROM THE QURAN THAT WEN STATING OR ASKING PLZ DO IT SO EVEN THE UNLETTER CAN UNDERSTAND,
surah 3 verse 64 means that the ppl shud all worship 1 God, doesnt matter if they r christian, jewish n so on, 2day u c christians worshiping 1 God n the jew worshiping 1 God
To all readers seek the truth it is there and dont judge religion by a few ppl action. If you're sincere read all the books and do a comparision and you will find the truth. All God's prophet were send to teach by example to mankind good not evil; it is the ppl who are evil. THERE IS NO COMPULSION IN RELIGION THE TRUTH SPEAKS FOR IT SELF - SEEK IT. PEACE.
All this guy is saying is he has a new superstitious belief that makes him feel nice and frees him from the burden of responsibility and thought. Personal revelation is not proof of anything.
n also 4got to mention lol lisn to a lecture by sayed ammar called "the companions of the cave, an example for youths" bare in mind that those companions r christians, who believed in the oneness of God and that jesus (pbuh) was a prophet of God, theres surah 17 that mentions their story of how they ran away from the polytheists to retreat to a cave
Can you suggest a good publication out there that can explain to me what the Qur'an is all about and teach me about Islam. Most Muslims I meet are the nicest people Ive met. But in my country every one thinks they are all represented by a few lunatics.
the only answer i got is this loll lisn to a lecture by sayed ammar called "the power of the quran" he examines it in full lol, u shud find it on his site somewhere in his lecture seasons =] so ye download n lisn lol n tell me wat u think n also theres a lecture called "the messishs prophet jesus (as) and imam mahdi (as)" that 1z very interesting loll especially wat those 2 will do b4 the day of judgement lol
well to me i reckon surah 4 verse 56 means that if ppl dnt believe in Gods communication then they shall b in hell lol, it talks bout the polytheists lol read the next verse lol verse 74, ye who ever dies as a martyr 4 the sake of God then they shall hav a big reward lolll, verse 89, lol theres a lecture by sayed ammar bout that verse lolll i heard it last night lol its called "takiyya" lisn to it =], verses 91,104,105, refer to "was islam spread by the sword" by sayed ammar lol to b cont
This is great. Though I wish the interviewer would SHUT UP and go away. He gets into the way of the story being told. Mom didn't tell you not to interrupt when adults are talking?
u shud lisn to these lectures by sayed ammar, hes 1 of the reasons y i love islam lol -slavery in islam -islamic reform of women -generocity and the generous -was islam spread by the sword -islam and racism there plenty more =]
loll verses 157-159, i was lookin 4 those verses ages ago lol, refer to "the similarities between prophet jesus (pbuh) and imam ali (as)" he explains bout jesus (pbuh) b4 imam ali (as) lol so its interesting to hear =], verse 164, well its clear of wat it says lol that God sent apostles b4 mohommed (pbuh), n yes there r prophets that arent mentioned coz from wat i heard there like over 100,000 prophets loll verses 171, 172 lol again refer to "similarities of prophet jesus(pbuh) and imam ali (as)
since when do the oppressed ppl in the prophets (pbuh) time become oppressors, u shud watch the film called "the message" made in 1976, its an accurate tale of the prophets (pbuh) life when he 1st became a prophet til he died. ul b surprised wat ul c lol, when u do watch the arrivals n the message, then com back to me n say watever u want =]
Great Taqqiya!
He made me cry when said ... why the baby is comforted with his mother voice ...
ManshaAllah that was beautiful, thanks for posting. And welcome to Islam brothers.

Wonderful video with our lovely brothers, Masha Allah
Salaam, Thanks for sharing, JAZAKALLAH.
i like how the prof. is calm and friendly manshallah may allah guide all of us to right path
great video brothers.
I AM A PROUD KUFAR
Math knowledge came from the Greeks, Indians, Chinese, Mayans and Egyptians, not from the Quran.
Islam is like a bouquet of flowers. It will reflect off every heart in a different manner. Masha allah, you see a new flavor. Allah (swt) guides whom he wills.
great video Thanks fore showing us ,
Also said something about that woman's paradise being under her husband's foot..?
very touching story
god bless you my brother
al hamdolilah
MashaAllah. Allah guidance is the true guidance. Congratulations brother
I'm a former Muslim and I really like Prof.Lang. He seems to have a personal interpretation of the Qu'ran and he gets down to the core of the spirituality. I think it's too easy for me to say he doesn't quite understand the religion many are forced to believe but all interpretations are just as valid as the next. Whether it's an Ayatollah like Ruhollah Khomeini who spits vulgar, disgusting hate speech, or someone like Muhammad Yunus who furthers humanitarian efforts in developing countries.

ASA brother,
1st:Geat effort, worthy interview,
However, don't mind this: You took away from the interview instead of adding to it by XS feedback.
This man clearly had no problems expressing himself .
For inspiration watch some great interviewers: (my fav: charlie rose-pbs), try to follow their pace
When someone talks of their personal experience it is best to let them go on so a complete picture can be formed by the interviewee and absorbed by the viewer.
Wassalaam
the interviewee is great! the interviewer is ANNNNNOOOYYYIIING!!
This professor has a lot of patience. If someone kept interrupting me during an interview, I'd give them a piece of my mind.
Jeff Lang is still one of my favorite professors I've had. One of the most funny, quotable men in the world.
7)Fear Allah wherever you are, and follow up a bad deed with a good deed and it will wipe it out, and behave well towards people.
8)Reported from Anas b. Malik, the Prophet said: "Girls are models of affection and sympathy and a blessing to the family. If a person has one daughter, Allah will screen him from the fire of hell owing to his daughter; if he has two daughters, Allah will admit him to paradise; if he has three, Allah will exempt him from the obligation of charity and Jehad."
Point well taken. I think I agree with you.
i like the interviewer. he have so much passion!!
We as an congregation have actually been invited to an event coming up soon which is being organized by a group of Jewish members believe it or not to learn more about Islam. I will find out Sunday exactly more about it.
I actually have one available to me at the Unitarian Universalist congregation I attend. I have ordered Islamic literature to help me understand it. What I am interested in in particular is the prophecies of Islam. I am very well aware of the prophetic nature and the believed fulfillments of those prophecies but the prophecies of Islam and the general beliefs I am only partly aware of. Unitarians are a very tolerant people and at time we learn about other religious views.
All I can say is Allahuakbar!
Great show, keep it up.
Asalamualakum
do good
love your brethren
if a person is not your equal in religion he is your equal in humanity
so dont disrespect others religions or beliefs
it is well known not everyone is destined to become muslim
lets embrace each other and respect each other best we can
INshallah
I think what we should be laughing at is, why some people have become so hard headed that nothing seems to be guideing them towards the truth. Eventhough it is very plan and simple english language.
5)Al-Aswad told that he asked A'isha what the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) use to do in his house, she replied that he used to engage himself in Mihna i.e. the service of his family, and when the time for prayer came, he went out to prayer.
6)Abdullah b. al-Harith b. Jaz said he had not seen no one more given to smiling than Allah's messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).
to b cont..... lol
I recommend reading Dr. lang's book (Losing My Religion: A Call For Help). It is amazing! Available from Amazon.
In part 2 he said its not in my nature to callpeople to islam and the interviewer said yeah absolutely which i dont agree with because it is compulsory we call people to the religion of islam
Alhamdulilah!! May Allah pour His blessings over you and may He make the path to Jennah easy for you. I am happy and I thank our Most Merciful Creator, Allah, for guiding you to the Truth. Allahu Akbar!!!
thank you for sharing
oh people of islam the Alaways muslim doesnt want a debate in the comment section (Allahua3lam) it is why he disabled comments from the other 2 parts if u want to debate then debate on ur channel this vid was made for all muslims to remember that god guides whom he wills and for us all to say allah akber because we have gained another brother and invited him to this beautiful way of life
Allahuakbar

Subhan-Allah !!!
Allah Akbar....MashAllah...Islam is real!
May God bless our world..
All Praises to Allah. This does my heart good.
I can imagine meeting the one who created me. She's making supper right now.
Alhamdulillah, It was very interesting to know about Dr Jeffery's questions and how he got answers, I think it also resolved some of my own confusions, eg when He referred to a verse where angels asked God as to why he created man,..there is a very strong message in reply,
Host is also very exciting guy..
thanks for sharing,..
Salam.
actually the interviewer is asking too much questions and not letting the professor finish his answers.
this video is great thanks for posting it keep the good work, by the way what is the book write by Dr. Lang name?
yeah bro, let the person you're interviewing talk.
Islam like anyother religion is open to interpretation and many find their own personal truth whether their born into it or convert. I wish more Muslims were non-voilent but the religion lends itself too well to voilent interpretation leading to voilent cultures.
beautiful story
very good video ... but i must say the host(black T ) was interrupting too much . its kinda irritating

donibelle
I'm a Muslim & I noticed that too; He kept interrupting him.
It was kinda rude tbh, but I'm sure he meant well.
I really like the story of this convert/revert. But I really wish the interveiwer would shut up. He was acting as if its him whose story we're listening to. And he kept interrupting the guest who I wanted to hear more from!
Mashallah but the interviewer should interrupt less :D lol
What's your point?
Really great video, too bad the guy in the black t shirt just talks a bit too much for an interviewer.
