I too was looking for a way to do this and stumbled upon this video after discovering the camera app on chromeos did the trick. Here's something else I discovered. Change the camera app to video, then right click and select show controls. Now click the the speaker icon to unmute and there you go no bluetooth speaker needed for audio from the hdmi device. From the chromeos taskbar you can adjust the mic levels for the capture device to clean up the sound if needed.

I love my Acer chromebook 11 and 99% of my online usage is with this device. I have found the linux install works great, with Libreoffice, Kmymoney and Gimp. My only complaint is my low end model only has 16gb storage which is tight with the linux install. Instead of using a capture device, can you not operate the Raspberry Pi remotely from the chromebook? Seems simpler to me.

Just done this exact same thing using my Lenovo Duet with my Pi 400. I have the HDMI input device and the Pi 400 connected to usb on a USB-C dock so everything is powered from from a single USB-C source. Trying to find an alternative to the camera app as it the overlays that stay on screen are distracting

Ok just found an app called Cam Recorder on the chrome store ( not play) this does the same job as the camera app pretty much but has less on screen overlays. Simple to select the usb input too. It runs in a chrome tab which means it also lets me cast the tab to one of my chromecasts... though it’s a little choppy.. Great channel, keep it up! :)
