I wouldn’t worry about the 2km run I was doing it in about 10 mins before getting to Lichfield and when got there ended up doing it in about 8:30, adrenaline and competitiveness kicks in 👍🏼
I was a TA man 30 years ago. The annual test then was 3 miles in boots DMS. Either straight off within I think 27m30s , or 1.5 miles as a squad jog timed to 15 minutes, then turn round and run back in 10.5 minutes or less. I don`t know why the two different standards. THEN they removed the need for boots as it was wrecking peoples tendons in boots, and using trainers instead.
I have been training with an ex 22 sas bloke who is one of my best mates. He's been out of regiment for around 3 years now. And one of his mates who's in paras. I thought I was quite fit, but jesus they are both unreal!! The para guy was way fitter than me, but the ex sas lad was running rings round him. We had 55lb bergens on and we was doing hill work on kinder scout (northern edge from the snake pass up to seal stones). Basically just straight to top then back down over and over again for 8 hours. I have never thrown up as much in my life from pure exhaustion 🤢 I got up and down 7 times. Para lad did it 11 times and sas lad got 15 or 16 times and was still in shape for battle after. Unreal level of fitness from both of them.

Honestly, run faster and you will find it easier. Go on a treadmill and do 13km/hr, it’s hard as it takes 10 minutes. 15km/hr feels easier as it is only 8 minutes. Just try it.
I’m wanting to join the army to become a mechanic, however I’m asthmatic and doing the 2km run seems impossible. Have you got any tips on how I can achieve it?
There’s nothing really in terms of supplements aside from making you have all your vitiamins and people Creatine. And diet, there’s nothing really that specifically helps with stamina but just the usual make sure you hit your needed intake for protein to enable protein synthesis. Also diets can vary on the individual. Broccoli and stuff bloat me to fuck so I have to stay clear of that and just smash the sweat patio chips in instead.
I applied for the Paras the other day, started training yesterday however I went running and almost immediately I got quite bad pain in my Achilles heal.... I'm gutted.
Try this stretch mate, lean forward over anything worktop, top of stairs anywhere, put one leg out in front and the other leg as far back to a good uncomfortable. Keep feet flat, push down slightly and feel a stretch up the back of your leg, switch feet.
Do a heel drop on A step/stair case. Drop the Heel as much as possible. Move knee foward while keeping Heel down do it 15 times and then hold for 1 minute.

@@olliebennett7879 yh mate been improving since then , on a 3 mile run 2 days i go i go to my first mile in 6 minutes so when i test my 2 k run i should be preforming a lot better. I think it was just the transition from treadmill to outdoors that affected me.

Hill sprints are so good to improve. I did a bunch nearly every day first thin in the morning about 5am or 6am for a week and did them to failure, even to the point of throwing up all my liquids I was drinking one time. wasn't doing any 2kms 1kms in between etc. then did a 2km the next week and it shaved a minute off my run time right off the bat (granted my initial runtime was around 11:30 so bare minimum!) but incorporating that into my training eventually lead to me getting a 9 min 2km runtime before I went to AC, nearly scraped an 8.0 on bleep test. Won't be turning any heads for the infantry or paras but for what I was going for I was better than some others who rocked up

Just waiting for the csm to get me on selection but apparently they're only taking on regs at the moment.

@@velocetech Infantry for boots on the ground combat mainly and Royal Logistics corps for supplies. Im going for Infantry too.
@@Chinny42nd good luck man! I’ve changed my mind on joining and I’m carrying on with music. Hope your future treats you well
Assessment centre start of August then off to harrogate in October! Can’t wait
SmellsLikeKet What regiment trade? My sons just about to do his test and hopefully join you at Harrogate.
Haha dont be a crowbag or you'll get fucked around loads
Aiming for the Royal Marines. This will help my first 2kms!
The bleep test requirement is a lot easier then the 2km requirement if you ask me
Fair enough, is that what you found?
Craig Hollman It is mate. I think it’s because you can start the bleep test off slowly and build up but with the run you have to maintain the same pace. Love your videos though Craig they’re good help 👍
Thanks for the advice! I've begun my application to the army. Luckily I have a while to work on my fitness (much needed!) as I have final year of degree to finish first - I aspire to become a linguist in the intelligence corps. Never been super fit or top of my game so it's going to take a lot of work!
That's really good thoughts, well done. Good luck with it all and let me know if you need any help 👍
@@CombatReadyHQ cheers! A quick Q then! I decided to apply just as a solider rather than an officer based on the descriptions - it seemed like officer would be purely leading others whereas I want to do the actual work I imagine of listening in to enemy communications etc - would you say this is a fair assumption of the two roles or am I misled?
I can't see your second comment for some reason
Did you pass?
Have you got any tips for joining the Household Cavalry. I'm hoping to start basic in September and was wondering if you had any tips for both ceremonial and Combat.
I'm aiming for para. My fastest 2km (well 1.97km) was 8 mins 2.today 2km was 8 mins 16. I find that I start to quick and tire myself out to soon in the run. Also my sleep is fucked I go bed at 2-3am and wake up at 12-1pm and I don't eat as much as I need to 😅
I just did double the distance so you don't tire, I could push myself harder with the extra endurance
Just got my date, thanks for this video mate.
Awesome, good luck 👍
When’s your date as I’m going on the 14th of July
I wouldn’t worry about the 2km run I was doing it in about 10 mins before getting to Lichfield and when got there ended up doing it in about 8:30, adrenaline and competitiveness kicks in 👍🏼
Really? I’ve been doing it in about 10 minutes which is bad as I’m only a few seconds from failing the test do u think my time will improve on the day
That won't happen for everyone, don't go hoping to get adrenaline other people could go the opposite way. Turn up prepares
Ah nice but yeah for sure running in boots all the times isn't great especially what they would have issued back then
I have been training with an ex 22 sas bloke who is one of my best mates.
That's awesome! Sounds mega. He is obviously seriously fit. Sounds like a great training session. Might have to do that one day, if you have space for one more
@@CombatReadyHQ 100% mate. It would be great to organise something. Would be great for a video on your youtube aswell! I would have 3 people laughing at me instead of 2 😂
Hahaha don't know about that but yes for sure we could make a video of it all
I’ll be going for assessment soon so what will I be doing a 2k run or a bleep test ? I’m joining royal artillery as90 gunner by the way
Bleep test
yeah it'll be a bleep test, im going for the royal signals so the minimum to pass is 7.1
you where did you find this?
@@rw1492 i had a phone call from the ACC they told me this
you passed my assessments last thursday, bleep test is piss easy mate you’ll smash it, good luck though
Joining in September this year current time is 10:11 want to get that down to 8 so hope I can 😂
I would say go to a ruuning coach for 1 session, decent pair of running trainers learn that you will be uncomfortable, focus on technique and focus on stretching
Pleases has the lab technicians started working? My assessment was cancelled because im from a high risk country and has to do a sickle cell test
Run more, do more internal training. It's as simple as that
I’m 14 now, but My goal is to get into the army at 16. My aim is sub 11:30 for the under 17s. I went on a run today my time was 8 minutes 18 seconds for 1 mile what should I do to gain slowly as I have a lot of time?
Should I add weights or should I just train on my mileage?
Did you like your own comment 😂
I’m preparing to join infantry and I got a time of 9:45 which I think is good
Did you end up applying and joining? To my knowledge that’s enough to join the marines
Great video mate, got a lot out of it seen as though I'm looking to join when I'm 18. I'm still not sure whether I want to join the infantry or get a trade with the RLC
Fair one mate, have you seen my video on choosing a job role. I done a few weeks ago. Glad to hear you liked the video
@@CombatReadyHQ I'll give it a watch mate, thanks 👍
Idk if i asked you already, if i have I've forgotten but which corps and which regiment are you in.
Household Cavalry Regiment, Royal Armoured Corps
@@CombatReadyHQ ah ok
Nice and early for the video today
Yes thought I'll get it out there for you all 😊
Started my application in late Feb and was worried about the run times... I'm 33 and worked as a chef all my life, my first run I clocked at 13.42 after a 3rd run got this down to 11.12 my personal best after 3 weeks was 9.17... Hadn't actually been for a run for a few weeks due to work schedule just got back from one today expecting a poor time yet was 10.12. Watching your videos have helped, but is it a bleep test now? Is this due to covid?
Yh it’s a bleep test now you got to get level 8.6 for combat roles 7.1 for other roles I’m not sure what it is for paras and that
@@itsbehindu2022 I'm wanting to go in doing cyber engineering, what is the best way to train for bleep test? Concentrate more on interval running sessions?
Matt Elliott I’ve just been doing long runs like 4mils at first I did 2mils then 3mils and just kept making it harder
Bleep test is only for those joining as an officer rather than a soldier.
Unfortunately it's for us rifleman too. I preferred the 2km run as that's what I've trained for the last 2 years
Wish you did this video back in September 😂
Honestly, run faster and you will find it easier. Go on a treadmill and do 13km/hr, it’s hard as it takes 10 minutes. 15km/hr feels easier as it is only 8 minutes. Just try it.
Ngl I’m pretty fit for my age I’m 16 and I got a 13.2 on the bleep test
That’s pretty good are u going to harrogate
That's because you don't weigh anything.. once you start adding muscle mass and fat.. that time will come straight back down
@@azgardian32odinson true dat I’m 17 weigh 14 stone and am only getting 10 even tho my 2k is 8 min
I’m wanting to join the army to become a mechanic, however I’m asthmatic and doing the 2km run seems impossible. Have you got any tips on how I can achieve it?
How did you get on?
What diet/supplements would you recommend for improving endurance and stamina
There’s nothing really in terms of supplements aside from making you have all your vitiamins and people Creatine. And diet, there’s nothing really that specifically helps with stamina but just the usual make sure you hit your needed intake for protein to enable protein synthesis. Also diets can vary on the individual. Broccoli and stuff bloat me to fuck so I have to stay clear of that and just smash the sweat patio chips in instead.
hey you said riding a bike is a good way to improve i bike 4 miles a day right now is that good?
Is the 2km without any added weight? Is there a 2km weighted run?
How long did your application take?
Been training up for my 2k run was managing to do it I’m 8.15 for the para time and got told a day ago I now have to do a bleep test 😭😭 determined to pass this
Do you know what level the potential paras have to reach on the bleep test?
FollowingLiam 11.6 is the minimum
aaron morrison cheers mate
Ye it’s 11.6 for a minimum
Craig would you recommend running on a treadmill? I can run my 2km on treadmill in 7:46 , but outdoors i get around 8:15.
i’m not craig (obviously) but personally i recommended more outdoors than on a treadmill. A lot more fun and obviously all runs in the army are outdoors, fantastic splits though
@@olliebennett7879 yh mate been improving since then , on a 3 mile run 2 days i go i go to my first mile in 6 minutes so when i test my 2 k run i should be preforming a lot better. I think it was just the transition from treadmill to outdoors that affected me.

I'm using the treadmill for sprints and hills x3 a week, and doing 5kms outdoors x2 a week and seeing good improvements in both
For Gurkha recruitment pass time is 8:10 sec
How long do you reckon it would take to improve? A few months? A year?
My clients see results in weeks, I've had clients knock minutes off in my 8 week Battle Fitness Academy
Joined in 2015 -16 got all the other test Jerry cans etc and then it came to the dreaded run and it kicked my arse got about a mile and couldn’t breathe so now I’m 24 and going for it again and been on the treadmill to sorta build myself a wee bit better before tackling outside and I’m struggling with anything over 6.5kpm but I’m not getting anywhere near a good time and breathing is my issue
Try to get outside ASAP mate, and get on a beginners 5k plan. Good luck.
Won't be turning any heads for the infantry or paras but for what I was going for I was better than some others who rocked up
hi mate any tips on how to revise for the computer test you do at selection? i have my start date on the 6th of july im kinda nervous.
The screen is touch screen, so that will save time rather than using the mouse. Also, you will be asked - River colder than lake, pond colder than river. Then underneath it will ask - Which ones is warmest? Read the question at the bottom first, then read the info above it, it makes it a lot easier.
I’m 15 and just applied for Harrogate my first 2k I got 11.45 lucky enough my dad is a ex infantry pti and that dropped from 11.45 to 6.15
what was your running routine?

quick question, once i have completed a role e.g. vehicle mechanic (and received qualifications) can i join into another job role e.g. infantry soldier?
You can transfer but they try to stop you from transferring from a trade to infantry as they put money into the extra ‘schooling’

When you do the test what do you wear? Your gear or theirs?
Your own kit at assessment. Get ready for shagnums and swimming trunks at phase 1 though

Unfortunately they've scrapped the 2km run for army reserves. I'm trying to join the Rifles as a rifleman. Their run time is 2km in 10.15 mins. I started off with a best time of 25 mins with lots of breaks but 2 years later I now have a run time of 2km in 9.15 which I still can't believe I did it!! Just shows if I can do it anyone can do it. Shame they've now replaced the 2km with a beep test why keep changing it. They changed it before with the water jug test which is now a medicine ball throw and bar pull of 70kg which I smashed with a PB of 200kg. Just waiting for the csm to get me on selection but apparently they're only taking on regs at the moment.
It's all changes due to covid but hopefully it will all go back to normal soon but well done that's amazing.
Hi guys don’t know if anyone knows but I have my assessment centre in October was wondering if anyone knows if it’s still bleep test and how hard it is I’ve got my run down to 9:05 but averaging around 9:15 not bad cos I started off 11 minutes. I found best is to run 2/3 times a week I ran everyday 2km for about two months but I’m prone to injury lol and also got slower due to tiredness etc
Craig, the bleep test is the new Assessment Centre test. I need to get 7.2 to get in, I'm just brushing by 7.3, the bleep test is more sprints and is something I struggle more to compared to the 2km run. How can I improve my score, cheers
Do what I said in the video it will work also add in intervals and sprints at the end of your Workouts
Do u know the requirement for paras on bleep test and any other tests?
@Simran Dhillon 11.6 for paras mate
At the beginning of June I was getting level 4.9 and now I’m getting level 7.4 consistently. I’d just advise you to set yourself a target level and push yourself to achieve that level. I also do my beep test every other day and I’ve seen the most improvements doing it this way!
Would you recommend couch to 5K for a beginner? I’ve been doing that on week 2
Mate I’m on week 2 of that and it seems good gonna finish it until week 9 and give the 2k a run I recon it will improve our times
When you say one Long run and one short run a week. What distance would you say is Long and short ?
for me it would be 10k and 2k, but it depends on how good you are at running
In Indian army it's 5:30 for 1600m
I thought the assessment consist of 2.4km (1.5miles) run instead of 2km.
That is the old assessment
Are they ever going to accept the commonwealth applications?

It's actually very simple the get the ball rolling... just fill the application online, and the careers centre will be in touch in about a week - apply.army.mod.uk/how-to-join
Have to do 2.4 in 10-11:56 I did 1.61km in 11:56 I’m horrible at running
How can I practice the bleep test mate? Am going for paras so there 2k is 8.15 am managing 7.55 but think he pass bleep test is 11.5 I think dont really understand the bleep test scoring it's a 20m I believe
The points in this video will help get you fit for the beep test and then you can also add in 20m shuttle runs in a workout or at the end of a workout
Run faster. That’s what we did.
Yes running faster helps to get a better time 👍💪
I don’t know how true this is but I heard for the assessment there doing bleep test instead off 2k run coz the coved 19 I could be wrong but my assessment is next mouth can’t wait
You're right, it is the bleep test now instead of the 2km. I got the call yesterday telling me this.
I’ve been told this aswell mate
you Why has it changed?
When did it become a bleep test? The website still says 2km run with an 800m warmup
Got a putting from the AAC saying due to Covid the numbers have been shortened and the run has changed to bleep test and also instead of going for 3 days your doing all the tests in 1 day

I applied for the Army last year and got rejected because I broke my hip 6 years ago and I have 3 pins in my hip, Ive never had problems or pain with it since and can do absolutely everything on it. I didnt appeal because I didnt think it would work but its been in my mind litersly everyday since, if I applied again and actually appealed it, kept a 3 month training journal and got seen by my GP or another medical prof, what do you think my chanced are of gettig accepted? being in the military, Army or Marines, is all I want to do.
No harm in trying mate, time goes fast I'd just go for it and appeal you never know you could regret it one day
Appeal with a statement from your GP mate, I had a similar experience and I'm back in the joining process now. Best of luck :)
Just got a 6:40 time in the 2k today in school
Whos gonna join the 16-18 army centre in 2021 with me?
I’m in a WhatsApp group with other candidates and staff and we got told that it’s now a bleep test, they have a table of what record u need to get for your role eg infantry is 8.7 on the bleep test which is equivalent to 2km/ 10:15. Do you know about this?
Yes so I've heard it is the beep test now
Craig Hollman Sweet, good job on your videos 💪🏻💪🏻
I can do 2k in 10:45 but I suck at the beep test
How hard is it to pass selection?
If you don’t train the correct way then it’s hard, but hard work pays off aswell as watching thins like this on how to improve certain lacking areas, the runs the hardest but it’s better at selection as you are running with other people which eggs yourself on to get a better time than them for bragging rights
