- A brand new trailer for & Juliet has been released showing off footage from the West End production ahead of its arrival at the Shaftesbury Theatre.
Directed by Luke Sheppard (In the Heights) the show imagines what would happen if Shakespeare's Juliet rebelled against her story and didn't die at the end of the play, carving out a life for herself instead. The show features tunes from the massive catalogue of Max Martin music, including Katy Perry, The Weeknd and Backstreet Boys.
The cast is led by Miriam-Teak Lee as Juliet alongside Oliver Tompsett, David Bedella, Cassidy Janson, Arun Blair-Mangat, Melanie La Barrie, Jordan Luke Gage and Tim Mahendran.

I love the idea behind this and it generally looks good, but I'm not a fan of juke box musicals. Which is a shame because this looks great but I feel like it should be amazing.

It’s exactly a juke box musical at its worse. Do not believe the hype. Not amazing at all!! The girl who plays Juliet and the gender confused guy are horrible singers. They MUST be Max Martin’s personal friends or the producers or something. NOBODY considering the abundance of amazing black talent out there could’ve given these two the parts otherwise. Unless tonight was THE worst performances of their whole run which I doubt.

Jukebox musicals have always been around. So, it's quite refreshing to have one told like this. It'll bring more people to the show as it's songs they can relate to.

To everybody saying they wish it was original music. There is a original song in the show why they aren't really promoting that I don't know but yeah. Don't shoot it down just because it's pop songs I cannot stand most chart music but these songs are reworked for the show and they work so well. The show isn't written flimsily to tie the songs together it's done really well.

AJ because I seen the show In Manchester, multiple times! The original song is called 'One more try' its listed on the track listing of the CD/download of the cast recording if you want to look that up & there's a couple other interviews around that were for the Manchester run that mentioned the original song if I remember correctly when they workshopped it earlier this year there was a national newspaper article on how Max Martin might write a original song for it, that's the song by all means look that up i was simply saying don't judge it because of the music!

Nameless i love it so yes. Ive seen all three all three are fun. I personally think this has the most impressive set (obviously can't comment on hairspray yet but if we were going off of previous productions) and the costumes are gorgeous. The show itself you don't stop smiling. It's so visually impressive definitely nothing like it in London atm

As someone who isn't particularly into chart music I thought I'd hate this but I saw it twice. It's such a good night out and I can't wait for the cast recording, especially Frankie's version of Overprotected*(?).
It's really funny, really sweet and generally uplifting af.

Seen this show twice since it came to London! Definitely one of my favourites. The energy given here is immense and the narrative told through the catalogue of Max Martin is perfectly executed! Those who are saying “oh it looks good but it’s a jukebox so I won’t bother” I think that’s quite sad and you’re judging this musical before you’ve even seen it... Jukebox musicals are just as amazing as original musicals, as long as they’re executed correctly. A musical is a musical at the end of the day and this one is incredible! I loved it and I appreciate it so much 💖

We are from the USA and flew in last night to see the show. We want to see it again and again! My Mom and I were up on our seats dancing and singing with this brilliant cast!!! I’m young but a singer myself and this would be the ultimate dream job for any west end or broadway star. The very BEST!!!

Saw this in Manchester, it’s cleverly written, funny, heartwarming, with superb staging and costumes. All of the cast are incredibly talented. Totally recommend it 👍

Six was about girl power. A group of girls being together, and that has an audience or young women who are fans of girl groups. Who will be the fans of this show ? Is it just going to rely on Britney and Katie Perry fans going to hear the songs ?

Bob Smithies idk what you mean about knife crime, but it’s about Anne Hathaway rewriting the end of Shakespeares work in what she thought would happen if Juliet lived. It’s about her finding friendships and relationships outside of her old family and her inner growth. The Wikipedia page has a pretty basic overview of it. I highly doubt it, Rock of ages, we will rock you and mamma Mia don’t rely on primarily rock and ABBA fans. It might get kore people interested in it, sure, but they’ve changed the compositions and lyrics of the songs enough that they easily fit into the show with out seeming hammy
This is a brilliant show. The song lyrics are cleverly used to fit the storyline exactly. It is very funny. The singers and musical arrangements are fantastic. It is a light hearted modern, musical comedy-fantasy and not one part of it is boring. Standing ovations for the cast every time I have been.

Original music would've been just as amazing....but the jukebox/mixed tape musical style gives it a more comedic charm. If R&J weren't a tragedy, I think this'd be it.
Went to see it pre pandemic literally one of the most amazing musicals I have ever seen. Loved it would highly recommend funny and entertaining

I saw this in december and it was incredible! The real story is the relationship between Shakespeare and Anne and it's amazing

In February this was the last West End Show I saw before the Lockdown🔑 And I’m very Happy that’s was because the show was extremely fun and was packed with a phenomenally talented cast and crew. I’m even more honored that I got to meet a lot of them afterwards 🥰🤩

The concept seems interesting! I wish it was original music mainly because the songs they chose don’t really bring as much emotion as an original piece would (at least for me personally) but we’ll see how it turns out!

Actually: the only reason I even looked for a trailer is BECAUSE it's juke box. I'm so bored from all the "Shakespeare"-musical-versions (Love them still), but I like how they put all these known songs to a more or less known story. It's not like they used the greatest hits of one group or artist and weaved a weird story around to make a musical, but on the contrary, there is the story and they just took songs that already existed. Works with Moulin Rouge - seems to work here also.

Me: no. Due to the fact that 95% percent of the words and phrases in the English language were originally written by Shakespeare. For example: parting is such sweet sorrow (Romeo and Juliet) jealously is a green eyed monster, salad days, you’ve got to be cruel to be kind, what’s done can not be undone. Now I agree with modernising Shakespeare as long as you keep the story and don’t say things like this as Shakespeare isn’t credited for being the father of the English language for nothing.
