Dropper Post Service - Brand X Ascend - Giant Contact - Shimano Koryak - PNW - SDG

- There are a fair few affordable dropper posts on the market these days, and a number of them all use a sealed gas cartridge and therefore, the service for them is more or less the same. This procedure works for more or less any post that is cable actuated and does not have an air valve to adjust the internal air pressure.
So that includes but is not limited to;
Brand X Ascend
Shimano Koryak
PNW
Giant
SDG
Tranz X
Race Face
And a fair few more...

Followed your guide and disassembled my Trans X dropper.
Only difference was I had to remove the saddle and undo a little screw at that end of the post to allow the upper and lower to separate- after undoing the collar between them too, as per your video.
Then I put the adjustable spanner on the actuator but it would only turn 45 degrees in either direction and wouldn’t unscrew.
I removed the retainers and cleaned and regreased what I could.
The post does feel better but I’d have liked to be able to remove the hydraulic assembly to really clean in there thoroughly.
Any ideas?
Thanks for the video! I just got a similar dropper on ebay for 1$. The guy says it wasn't working and after I tore it apart it looks like it is missing the smaller rod that slides inside the shaft of the cylinder that actuates it. (starting at 2:26 is a good shot of what I'm talking about. the smaller shaft sticking out to the left of the threads) Any chance you know what diameter that little rod is? I want to just make one and I'm hoping that fixes the problem. Thank you!!!!
I'm planning this service accompanied by a cup of PG tips. Will it work properly? Should i change the label?
So it's just a pneumatic door strut in some fancy packaging, and they charge how much! 🤣
There are basically two designs, the ones with specific internals, Fox, Rock Shox Magura etc etc. And those that use sealed cartridges, and a good number of those are the same post (made by Tranz X) with a different brand laser etched on it!
Ace video and I must say I'm enjoying your channel more than any other bike channel on RUclips! Do you know of any good routes up near inverness deep in the highlands? I'm moving up there soon but have only scoped out the Mast. Cheers 👍
Thanks man I really appreciate you saying so, I've really thrown what spare time I have at it since lockdown and I hope its starting to show!
Whilst I had my mispent college days in Inverness and have family there I dont know much riding specifically in Inverness beyond the network around the Mast. Aviemore is not far and is AMAZING for riding, as if Golspie just a drive north and Laggan Wolftraxs if you head towards Fort William and of course The Nevis range and WC Downhill as well, all within a days mission drive!
@@StravaigingMTB cheers dude I'm going to UHI Inverness college
Straight down the A82 hugging the loch into Fort William. Amazing trails wherever you go pretty much.
Got a One Up one eighty. Tried this. Ended up having an airvalve under the seat. I found this out after losing the seat bolts on the shed floor and releasing the dropper cable down into the bike :/ Now I have to take it to the bike shop.
How do you tell if you have a sealed cartridge or if it can be refilled with air pressure? I have a Brand X Ascend that supposed to come in both versions, on the dropper post, there is a text saying 250-300PSI, but i cant find where to refill the pressure. If it is a sealed cartridge, how do you go about getting a new one?
Under the seat clamp you should find a shraeder valve, you can refill it with a shock pump. If there is a nut, then its a cartridge style one. Try CRC if it has failed for a warranty if its less than a year old. Hotlines are the distributer so they will be able to sort you out with parts.
I have a BrandX Ascend 150mm. Is it the same as this dropper to service? The actuator is different. What kind of grease do I have to use?
Hey, nice video. But my keys are completely destroyed. Do you know, where i can purchase those?
Sorry, no. What country are you in as you could trying email your regional distributor.
@@StravaigingMTB I live in Germany.
I can't unscrew the actuator on mine (brand-x ascend)...any ideas? seems as if it's seized. : /
Doe st just turn or is it not turning at all and do you have a vice?
So, what if post isn't returning to designed height like in first video?
Then you will need to replace the internal gas cartridge.
May I ask what tools at 6:40~6:45
