Have test driven all of these and though am not an expert, I feel the plastic quality of the Octavia is cheap and the front suspension and noise in the diesel is very bad and unacceptable for a car that costs almost 22 Lakhs on-road. Fluence is the most well-balanced car I feel in this segment, the suspension and styling is simply superb, though it might not be as well equipped as maybe the octavia or Elantra, but it has all the essentials.
Skoda is definitely a winner if you consider only car. But if you consider after sales aspect, longterm ownership, resale value, Skoda is a clear loser. Skoda cars are good for only first 3-4 years, because of poor service and thief like attitude of service centers, its not advisable to buy a skoda. I currently own a skoda car and has to go thru this pain of service every year.
The biggest disaster is the Diesel Corolla! 1.4l 87bhp for a D segment sedan?? What's with the Corolla's interiors resembling the Honda City? Also no rear ac! Toyota either seems to be over confident or have forgotten how to make a luxury car!
In our place, the Corolla and the Elantra are the only ones available. Though the review thinks that Elantra is way better than the Corolla, too bad then. Our practicalities in our country is about good Handling, where in Elantra is bad at. I had a test drive with an Elantra and the handling makes me less confident. Corolla is actually great. Maybe you could simply say that it isn't great for your needs but all of my needs are in the Corolla (except for the rear ac, which it doesn't have)
Hyundai has never had cars with good handling. But they master styling, quality and refinement. That's why Hyundai is the second biggest car manufacturer in India.
I own the neo elantra and had done lot of research before bringing home the elantra and trust me it is the cheapest of all four. Cost of owner ship is very low for elantra for eg clutch plate cost car wise. 1 Elantra below 15 2 Octavia above 70 3 corolla 20 to 30 4 Fluence 60 to 70
Rohan Acharekar my Elantra has clocked 40000km in 2 yrs trust me it rides like new where as I have Skoda superb which had clocked 20000km in 3yrs and I had to replace my shock absorbers which cost me 25000 RS skoda, cruze clutch don't last more than 70000km I have many friends who experience this .
In India, I think the Elantra is the best. Hyundai has good service, good resale value and it is good for Indian roads. Octavia is the best car but Skoda doesn't have a good reputation in India. Service is poor, difficult to maintain and resale value is poor.
Octavia is the best out of lot, but after sale service cost high, milege is ok. Coming to ride, it's punchy engine is superb.Since it's shock absorber are on firmer side, high speed stability will be awesome second will be Elantra, long feature list, supremely refined crdi and has good amount but horses is superb. While low speed ride is comfy,it looses on high speed and become bouncy as like all other Hyundai. Maintenance cost can be higher. Third is Corolla. What the heck,87 horses for 20 lak car.oh no.But mileage is good and after sale service cost are safer. But it looks like an etios make over, especially the doors, orvms and Same 1.4 l engine. But those big headlights with xenon lights and four led looks cool at night Last is fluence,i don't know more about it.But i cannot see it in the road
The elantra petrol is much better than the diesel, it has good low end, mid range and top end power fuel economy is respectable 10 city 15 highway 12 combined.
Skoda anyday. Undoubtedly the best car in this segment. Once they get their A.S.S in order, we've a clear winner. On the other hand, an 87 BHP engine in a 15 lakh+ car? What were they thinking. This is pure arrogance. Toyotas are seriously the most over-rated, over-valued car manufacturer in our country right now.
srinivasan krishnamoorthy Yep, great if you're a cab driver. For everyone else, what's the point of engine life if you're not going to use the car for more than 10 years (on an average)? It is a shitty engine in the first place, even hatchbacks these days offer more powerful engines and much better ride and handling at about half the price (Punto Evo, new Polo etc are pure gems). Toyotas, the ones in our country at least, are nothing but over-priced and over-rated people movers.
trippinghard You said right, Toyo is the one of the most overrated brand in our country. When it comes to the sheer amount of space and the tank like build quality, Skoda is the clear winner. Plus it accelerates and handles like anything. Had a chance to drive the Corolla for around 200Kms, n I had a severe backache. Where as travelled continuously for two days in an Octy, was really impressed with the Road Grip n Handling. It just sticks to the road and gives one so much of confidence to drive.
johnny wires avensis isn't there in India. Also we are talking abt corolla, the car with a 87bhp diesel engine.. Haha a decent hatchback is more powerful. Toyota is just bought because its milage is good and the service is good. Buyers don't think abt the power, the performance etc
Between the Jetta Petrol ComfortLine, Skoda Octavia Petrol 1.4 Ambition and Toyota Corolla Altis 1.8G, which is the best pick overall, barring in mind the comfort, practicality and features offered?
dont say blunders ok TOYOTA gets the maximum resale value from these cars and do yo know the price diffrence of both corolla and octavia elantra only gives you features its very week in handling every hyundais handles worstly then octavia when you sell the car after some years you wont even get half of the rate u bought you has to suffer high service charges spare charges and week service net works renault gives good millage but it lacks resale value
TheKiranvv We dont buy car only looking at its resale value..may be u are one of a kind...The car should worth every penny we spent on it in terms of quality, reliability, drivebility, cost of maintenance, etc...Toyota is a good company but in this segment it is far behind...Skoda is the real winner here given the fact that it will drain your pocket in terms of maintenance and less resale value but nothing will deny its leadership in this segment..
hai i have got my skoda octavia style plus edition just a month back i have driven 700 km before that i have been driving innova 2013 model i fell octavia suspention is tooo hard while i end my journey i end up with discomfourt .. is this common that octavia suspention is hard or i am alone fasing this problem ???
+pradeep kumar You are right. Octavia is known to have hard ride. What you are experiencing is normal for Octavia. However check if your tyre pressures. Should be as recommended not high.
+pradeep kumar Hi, The suspension setup on the Octavia is on a bit stiffer side, so the low speed ride quality is affected, but from my experience, you should not feel the same quality at higher speeds. coz since its a stiffer setup, it becomes more comfortable at higher speeds. As Anup said. check your tyre pressures. I havent seen any car as planted as Skoda at higher speeds in this segment, or in fact a segment higher than this. Innova has its own driving experience, so as time goes on you ll get used to the Octavia.
they are improving there after sales I have rapid and Chevrolet beat and skoda service is much much better than Chevrolet, regular service costs about 15 k in Chevrolet but in skoda just 7k
I dont like the design of skoda it not nice at all and the design is old school. If you ni Malaysia the toyota corolla altis is so nice if you buy the 2.0V and have led day time running ligth , not like in Indai. If they take corolla altis malaysia, altis will win and the fuel is save to. I dont agree that Skoda win???? It have most bad design compare to toyota, hyundai ,renaut even the honda. This video is not true for me because i from malaysia
I live in the UK and I really enjoy watching the Autocar India road tests. Great presenters and really interesting in depth analysis of the cars.
SKODA all the way in this segment
Octavia's Engine and gearbox + Fluence's suspension setup + elantra's features + toyota's relability = the perfect D segment sedan
Skoda octavia is beast as per my driving experience
i m missing chevy cruze and vw jetta.
I own a skoda ocatvia n i love it. It is a complete car extremely spacious and comfortable and a drivers delight.
Have test driven all of these and though am not an expert, I feel the plastic quality of the Octavia is cheap and the front suspension and noise in the diesel is very bad and unacceptable for a car that costs almost 22 Lakhs on-road. Got the Elantra anyway.
What do you think of it now? We sold our 2008 verna petrol for 90000 last year. Very poor resale value
And we faced major transmission issues at 74000 km
The biggest disaster is the Diesel Corolla! 1.4l 87bhp for a D segment sedan??
What's with the Corolla's interiors resembling the Honda City? Also no rear ac!

Meepster Well the new elantra has very good handling.. as i am an owner
I've test driven an Elantra and I don't feel comfortable with it. :l
Hyundai has never had cars with good handling. But they master styling, quality and refinement. That's why Hyundai is the second biggest car manufacturer in India.
very well sorted review...
Expecting similar review for Updated premium Hatchbacks. i.e. polo , i20 elite , punto evo.
Eagerly waiting

1 Elantra below 15
2 Octavia above 70
3 corolla 20 to 30
4 Fluence 60 to 70
+akshay jagtap but breakdown of the cheap is more frequent.

why vw jetta is not in th comparison? chevy cruz is also left out.
Is the same platform from Golf (Jetta, Octavia, A3...)
Who gave a like after seeing Octavia as the winner the correct choice by Autocar.
skoda is the best car but its service parts is most expensive
In India, I think the Elantra is the best. Hyundai has good service, good resale value and it is good for Indian roads. Octavia is the best car but Skoda doesn't have a good reputation in India. Service is poor, difficult to maintain and resale value is poor.

10 yrs down the line and no one thought all 4 will be discontinued in the near future 😢
apart from this battle i would love to go with rocket engine called CHEVY CRUZE !!
Skoda worst after sales cost. Toyota is d best as it will be virtually cost free.
You ll know Corolla's value when it comes to engine life and Maintenance. Just fuel and forget it.
srinivasan krishnamoorthy Yep, great if you're a cab driver. For everyone else, what's the point of engine life if you're not going to use the car for more than 10 years (on an average)? Toyotas, the ones in our country at least, are nothing but over-priced and over-rated people movers.
I agree...ppl love Toyota just because of their service! The cars look just so simple and cheap..Camry looks like a 9 lakh car. I have Octavia top end
trippinghard You said right, Toyo is the one of the most overrated brand in our country. When it comes to the sheer amount of space and the tank like build quality, Skoda is the clear winner. what about after sale service? i hear skoda is too expensive to maintain in compare to corolla or other 2 cars
they are improving there after sales I have rapid and Chevrolet beat and skoda service is much much better than Chevrolet
the golden age of sedans 😍
Between the Jetta Petrol ComfortLine, Skoda Octavia Petrol 1.4 Ambition and Toyota Corolla Altis 1.8G, which is the best pick overall, barring in mind the comfort, practicality and features offered?
undoubtedly Skoda is Skoda no Comparison!
elantra a clear winner
+Ashutosh Rana xD skoda 2.0 tdi :D
Sad these entry level sedans cost twice as much they are worth. Indian car market really needs to improve.
Toyota -not value for money, Hyundai- packed with features, Skoda- Powerful engine and classic design,
Renault- For mileage
dont say blunders ok TOYOTA gets the maximum resale value from these cars and do yo know the price diffrence of both corolla and octavia elantra only gives you features its very week in handling every hyundais handles worstly then octavia when you sell the car after some years you wont even get half of the rate u bought you has to suffer high service charges spare charges and week service net works renault gives good millage but it lacks resale value

ILOVE TO SKODA
I haven't seen any video on comparison between XUV 500 and Innova.. Can you do one for buyers who are confused between these two ??
hai i have got my skoda octavia style plus edition just a month back i have driven 700 km before that i have been driving innova 2013 model i fell octavia suspention is tooo hard while i end my journey i end up with discomfourt .. is this common that octavia suspention is hard or i am alone fasing this problem ???

Octavia will still kick its ass!!
New Civic is a flop world wide.
2012 civic 2.0 I-VTEC got 155 ps
Ummm where is the Volkswagen Jetta and the Chevrolet Cruze?
Octavia, in fact all skodas have high and expensive maintenance compared to hyundai and Toyota.
they are improving there after sales I have rapid and Chevrolet beat and skoda service is much much better than Chevrolet, regular service costs about 15 k in Chevrolet but in skoda just 7k
doesn't look fair enough...? Why did they test the 'Base model' corolla ? isn't the corolla supposed to be equipped with Dual VVT-I engines?
although the skoda won, its probably not the best (exterior) looking car that will turn heads.
Red one is a eye candy
octavia used in this comparison is not top end model
atlis was the best in comparison
jetta to be replaced by fluence
elantra
Skodas are great, but after sales service very poor. Would never buy one.
Toyota Corolla vs Skoda Octavia
Toyota only selling logo,to me Honda better
skoda b vs skoda octavia review
what about the jetta ?
+Eric Rodrigues jetta goes in a different category of cars.
Dhaval Patel no it doesn't . it's rival's with the Octavia. They R also made in the same factory ,and are made similarly.
i think laura is similar to jetta..
The Laura is rival's with civic . I know for sure the jetta is a rival with the Octavia. You can chec lk the internet if you want 😋

This video is not true for me because i from malaysia
fluance
Renault fluence the best car
+karim djkab french car is shit
HorsePower is best
The fluence is a Renault Samsung SM3 designed in Busan, South Korea...and rebadged as a Renault elsewhere
sorry worst
Worthy of Peanuts, being TOYOTA maybe OK but this Corollllla is Ugly as it's engine and whatever what coro is? Buy Another toyo's.
Skoda is the worst and altis is the best in comparison 😁😁
