Though competence reputation is most important to certain people but I do think character reputation have his own meaning. I remember when I was in college there was a debating on why politician should quit their job if they have scandical on their personal life. The key point is whether if he/she will make decisions because of his/her personal benefits and letting others suffer from it. Same as this condition, as a person don't know you well, how can I define if he/she is trust worthy? By character reputation. Let say I know someone is doing excellent on managing clients' fiance but he is an asshole. He can make money for clients? Yes. Is he an asshole? Yes Can I hire him to work for me? To me clearly no. It's because I don't know when he will betray me steal my money and go. I can trust this guy. Character reputation to me is a way to measure to predict is that person is worth to trust. Not exactly right but can be a reference.
I guess that's why most ppl got cheated by hypocrites as they judge the book by its cover, well before someone betray you of coz they pretend to be a gentleman.
Being competent means the work that is done is of high quality. If he steals you money and go, he is not doing his work. If he cheats on his wife, steal candies from kids and is into some weird fetishes, that is his personal life and does not affect his professional ability. The moment his professional skills are compromised due to his person character, he is no longer competent.
Like he said in the video, behaving in a positive way wouldn't earn him the publicity he has right now. So I doubt u will see him in this mode anytime soon haha
