Thank you for sharing your struggle to pin down the perfect location for your Weeping Spruce! Most of us have done the same. I truly appreciate your willingness to share your true adventures in gardening!
I am so happy top hear I’m not the only one who plants something, stands back and says, “Nope. A little to the left.” There are sooo many things in my garden that I’ve dug up and scooted over just a little. Thank you for the validation!
i planted a bush one foot over but left it because an old living bush was 3ft over. old bush died last year, now it is so obvious the huge mistake i made planting the new one without pulling out the old one. new one is too big to move now, looks so out of place just a foot out of place. ouch, every time i look at it.
Same here! I have a new flowerbed, that I slowly added things to last year, & this past fall I moved almost every single thing in the bed either to the left or right just like 6 inches! 🤣
Oh my goodness, the raspberry hyssop against the blue spruce! That color combo is *chef's kiss*. I don't have any full sun spots in my yard but if I did would definitely love to add some hyssop, especially Queen Nectarine.
Oh Laura! I loved this video! First, the mulch just looks AMAZING! Nice job Paul!! Very nice. It changes the whole look of the entire space. When you were planting your second drift under that tree, I had to scan the area to try to figure out where you were because of the shade you were under!!! It is so incredible the amount of development you all have done and it is so much fun & joy for me to watch this transformation. I sincerely thank you for all the joy you just keep on giving me & how much work it really entails is not forgotten for one minute. I literally smile from the moment I push play until the moment I hear “& we’ll see you in the next one” thank you 🙏🏼thank you 🙏🏼 thank you 🙏🏼😊♥️
Greetings, Laura, from Windermere, Florida zone 9b USA 🇺🇸 I love to "button up" days. I feel like I can take a step back and feel proud of my accomplishments 👩🌾👍 Happy Gardening Everyone 👩🌾 👍 💓
I want you to know, that you have taught me so much about gardening and I'm very appreciative! In the past, I've always had the thumb of death. After watching you again and again, I tried container plants around the pool. I live in Florida and the heat can be so brutal. I've kept plants alive for 2 months now (which is a record for me)! Thanks to your You Tube videos! You have the sweetest personality!
The one thing I notice you do really well is the layering in the garden bed. I’m learning a lot by watching you and slowly incorporating into my garden.
The finches love the seed of Hyssop! Mine reseed every year! They kind of pop up all over.I just pull where I don’t want them. I so enjoy your posts! I have been gardening for 50 years. Keep these great informational post coming.
I love that "it was just going to be shrubs and trees".....WHAT!? Good Lord... Whew that was close. So glad you snapped out of that mind set. Love you guys.
I am in love with hyssop. I have a variety that is so fragrant. The leaves as well. I love to gather the branches around my face and drink in the sent. I have blue fortune Agastache that is over 4” tall in its second year. It is such a lovely substantial bush with a nice anise/licorice flavored leaves. We have very heavy dear pressure here and the dear aren’t picky either, but they won’t touch my hyssop because of its strong sent. Thank you Laura for bringing some attention to these wonderful plants!
I adore you! 😘🤗…”I was only going to do trees and shrubs…but the perennials…😘🤗😘🤗Laura we are sooo lucky to have you and Yours creating original growth experiences that feed our souls. ❤️
I love the cool tones of the Royal Raspberry Hyssop against the blue spruce with the smokebush in the background. Can't wait to see it all once the sedum is blooming! And i need to get my hands on some of those hyssop!
Great video! Thank you for showing when things just go wonky. That word (wonky) should be my middle name. Shout out to Ken, fabulous music dude, nailed it!
What a fun video today. As much as I have enjoyed everything you've done on the new property or South Garden I should say, it's been fun today to see you working back up in the older flower beds. Love the weeping willow and that whole area. Looking forward to what you're going to do around the Hartley and in the back Garden. Not sure what you call that area. The North Garden? Anyway thanks for all the fun inspiration. I'm going to try this plant since you said it is deer resistant. That's my biggest struggle living next to the woods. Thanks so much!
I love seeing the garden in the evening glow. It’s my favorite time of day to walk around our garden too (even though it’s a much shorter walk than yours 😂). Love watching your videos!!
Good morning, Laura ☕️ Wow, 😳I didn’t realize how big the Hyssops get! 🙌🏻 I’m excited to see the Tiger Eye Sumacs change color; not to fast forward through the summer but, my eye catches them every time you’re in the south garden. Have a Blessed Day 😊🐈
Thank you for sharing your beautiful gardens with us. Laura, your smile is so beautiful and it's such a joy to see a friendly face. I spend my days alone with very-little to no human interaction. It's always nice to watch your videos and spend time in a happy place.
I live in an area with a lot of deer and deal with deer damage every day. However, the deer do not touch my hyssop. It performs really well and is a wonderful plant.
Laura, the 'golden hour' tour was great! That time of day on a sunny day is perfect when looking at the gardens. It's fun to watch your vision come true and to see how a space can totally change within a year and then to think what it will look like in 3-5 years.
It’s about time you get the tall hyssop! You are going to love it, I got Anise Hyssop in my garden every year (it self seeds) and the pollinators absolutely LOVE it, bonus too if you grow the variety Anise Hyssop, the leaves and flowers make a wonderful addition to any vanilla based dessert. Couldn’t recommend it more.
I'm in love with the colours going on with the Hebe garden - that blue spruce just glows icy blue in that spot! The smoke bush and hyssop you've planted is perfection with the limey greens and blue foliage 😍 OMG love it
I love these videos showcasing varieties of plants! I feel like I’m learning and discovering new plants I now want for my garden. I’m also so glad you are doing perennials in the south garden it is amazing. Thanks!
I love listening to you (and Aaron, of couse) on all your many posts, but hearing the quail in the background is a special added feature to your videos. Also, when you talked about moving the blue spruce twice it reminded me of my late husband placing rocks and plants around our pond: I'd ask him to move something (usually a large rock) about 6 to 12 inches and he'd say "you do know this isn't like rearranging the living room furniture, don't you?"
Hi Laura 🤠 just thought I drop you a message to say how much I’m loving your Channel & watching your garden develop over time.. its fabulous 🤩👍🏼 have a wonderful day & all the best 🤠🌱 Chip from 🌱 Chips World in Yorkshire
Beautiful plants for the garden! I really like the Weeping Spruce. I may have to try it! I think Gaura would look so pretty in front of the large statue! It has that ethereal look and feel. The gardens are looking wonderful. You have come a long way in one year's time in the South Garden! It's a joy to see it evolve and hear your thought process when adding in plants.
I have ‘Blue Fortune’ and ‘Kudos Coral’ Agastache. The ‘Blue Fortune’ is an absolute pollinator magnet! It stays covered from sunrise to nightfall, even after the blooms are past their prime.
Your new blue spruce is beautiful. The way it weeps, the color of its needles, the size… it’s just perfect. I love it. My parents had the most gorgeous blue spruce in their back yard… not the weeping variety, and my dad kept it trimmed and tidy. Then at Christmas, in Spokane, WA, we decorated it with lights, fairy style lights, even when they weren’t popular. I remember standing at the backyard windows watching December crystal white snow falling and continuing to make that beautiful tree look magical. A wonderful memory from the 1950s. Oops, looks like I just gave my old age away! ❤️
I am creating a new flower bed this weekend & I’m so excited! I’ve listened & watched you intently Laura! I’m pretty new to gardening 👩🌾 I just love it 🏡🌸🌷🌱 xx
I am very pleased you 🌱like to plant perennials with the trees and shrubs out in the South garden. The colour, texture and interest the perennials add are fun to see. The combination, once everything in the garden matures, will be spectacular.
I have an area in my garden that I call "The Savannah" as I have planted different types of wispy grasses and I am seriously on the hunt for "Blonde Ambition" now! Lovely! The Agastache is lovely! My favorite is called Licorice mint. I think the color range is visible to both bees and birds because the hummingbirds love it as do the bees! I am not too fond of bright jewel tones but some pollinators do, so I tuck a few in here and there. Everything is looking wonderful and thank you for all you do!
I have a cultivar called Tango. It’s peachy in color and smells amazing! I dry it and burn it like sage. My Daughter loves to burn it. She says it help with anxiety.
Good morning Laura and family. Another educational video. When ever I need to learn about something for my own garden I come here first. Thank you again from California zone 9b : )
Good morning all, I don’t know how she does it, I have to have something finished before I can continue with something else 😂. But my little yard doesn’t compare with theirs!! Laura your incredible!!!!
You guys are by far my favorite RUclipsrs! Love watching every video. My cat Spencer does the same thing as Russell & Cheddar. He follows me around every day when I’m working in the garden. So fun!
Just to add on to anothers comment about perennials in the south garden, I am soooo glad you're doing that, because we get to learn about more beautiful plants! Thanks so much💚🌿🌸🦋🌻
I'm so glad to learn I'm not the only one......the only one who gets dirty head to toe while trying to plant something like this and the only one who thinks they have the hole in the perfect spot, puts the plant in, then steps back only to find just how wrong I was. I do same hanging pictures (not dirty though). I hang, think it's perfectly straight, then step back and realize it's way crooked. There's something about the perspective......when you're that close you just can't tell. I've started digging holes and putting my shovel in the hole so I can step back and see if I'm on the right track. Worked great for my dogwood tree. Shovel in, went inside to check the views from various windows. Saved me a lot of misery. :-)
Yes, same! I would have liked to have seen more of that process in the video. Encouraging for the rest of us to know those things happen to someone like Laura. And a learning experience to know how she fixed it.~Cassandra Senter, Zone 9A
I would love for you to do a a video on slim trees, I do not have a big yard to put wide tree's in and would love to see a video showcasing these trees.
everything is looking so happy!!! love that spruce!! things are blending together beautifully: color, structure, size... ahhhh... just lovely!!! 🙂 ❤ thanks for the video!! 🙂 ❤
I love the idea of a pond by the Hebe statue and willow tree aesthetically, but then I'm always reminded of your high winds in the area and how much the tree has a lot of fall out of leaves. I do hope a pond will be implemented somewhere. I can only imagine how beautiful it will be.
What a great video!!! It's all coming along sooo nicely. You are a joy to watch and your excitement and enthusiasm is always so uplifting. Thanks again for sharing your time and experiences with us. Pam in South Carolina
I love the south garden's transformation so far. I can't understand how that massive area was not going to have any perennials. Is this the first time you just plunked and planted? You are having so much fun doing it. Keep it up.
The trees and flowers are more beautiful than a pond you get to watch them grow, have beautiful color and a pond is just a pond I think you’re doing the right thing by adding color and interesting things to look at 🌺
Love watching your videos. Your enthusiasm and love of gardening is amazing. I’m retired up north in Michigan where deer herds rule. I’ve always gardened and continue to but need a cane. Slow but sure. Have a great day. P.S. Love seeing the kids and the kitties.
Your videos are my daily antidote after catching up on News, and today I needed this video more than most. Thank you for being so reliably uplifting - I know it's much harder than you make it look. I'm wondering if you've considered a formal pond/Versailles-style water feature in the formal garden area. Have a look at Bunny Guinness's simple rectangular pond, or some of the roman shapes
Just beautiful! I took a couple pages out of Laura's book and planted heavy and if something doesn't give you joy, re-home it. Thank you for inspiring me!
Oh I have missed this area, your first remake around the Hebe statue was one if the first video of yours I watched and I have always loved this space! In my opinion, this area would be the perfect place to put a pondless waterfall. Its still a water feature but it's not big enough to compete with the Hartley. Also, the closed reservoir is perfect for a place close to such a messy tree! A quick question: I've noticed you haven't been using your big augers to plant trees lately, instead digging with shovels, is there a particular reason why you don't prefer to use the bigger drill bits anymore?
Ps: i love the routine of your videos, I always start a kettle of tea ten minutes before your posting schedule and take a break drinking tea and watching your beautiful garden. Its done wonders for my mental health!
Voilà and we have instant impact 🥳😂 Love the addition of the blue spruce, just adds the finishing touch. I must admit as well I was secretly horrified when you initially declared no perennials in the south garden, just trees & shrubs. So to see you plant with such freedom is really satisfying and just absolutely so right!!! And yes, 5y from now, should I be blessed to see, I can only imagine what it's going to look like. Thanks for sharing your garden with us.
I have always loved Agastache, in fact I even named a kitten Agastache. Called him Aga for short. I often told students if you get made just say Agastache Nepetoides, which is our native Agastache. Love how the garden is coming together. Keep up all the inspiration .
I look where you are showing us and see beauty. 😍 And then you point out, again, the colors and textures. I appreciate you repeating those details --- my brain gets stuck on "Wow!"
That blue spruce looks amazing in its spot, LOVE blue spruce!! I have to say, the south garden is coming along quite nicely!!! It is filling up the space, looks soooo good with the grass pathways. CANNOT wait to see what it will look like this fall and next spring. It will be ABSOLUTELY glorious! You are such an inspiration, thank you.
People I just watched “Linda Smith Davis New England Fine Living” garden tour 7/8. Wanted to share with you and Laura. The garden had a field of different ornamental Grasses👏So very beautiful ❤️I’m a lover of grasses and thought Laura would love this idea for her newest property. So if you watch and agree with me (👍) Laura might notice this comment😂thanks everyone…KH

Totally agree! I was thinking the same thing because it happens to me all the time. You said it well! 😊
hi my friend I love your beautiful video the plant 🪴is very beautiful to see thank you very much God bless
A “marital moment” for sure. Looks great!

I, for one, love that you are continuing perennials in the new garden. Of course it’s more work but it’s your passion! And it is looking incredible.
Oh my goodness, the raspberry hyssop against the blue spruce! That color combo is *chef's kiss*.
I don't have any full sun spots in my yard but if I did would definitely love to add some hyssop, especially Queen Nectarine.
Good morning GA family! Life is much better listening to our favorite gardener! God Bless everyone watching GA today!! 🌸🌞🐱🐝🌲
@Gin C ~ and God Bless you, too!🙌
I love the droopy evergreen next to the weeping willow. Something about having them next to each other is so cute!
Cheddar and Russel living their best life on your property. I like that they always make an appearance in your informative videos.
That spruce is fabulous! It looks like a person standing in the garden.

I just have to add. . . YOU ARE SO SMART Laura. This is definitely a God given gift. Thank you for sharing with us.
Not only do I love the shape of the tree, I am loving the blue color it brings to this spot.

These hyssop are quite beautiful. The fact that they grow in crummy soil is a bonus 🙂

That two tone agastache is gorgeous! On my want list

You have done so much to these new spaces in just 2 summers.. what beautiful spaces, it’s so much fun to watch the transformation.
I love the cool tones of the Royal Raspberry Hyssop against the blue spruce with the smokebush in the background. Can't wait to see it all once the sedum is blooming! And i need to get my hands on some of those hyssop!
I too am looking forward to the sedum. But then it's kind of like reminder fall is near.
@@GardenHappy True true. Summer is always over far too quickly!
The other name I've heard hyssop called is Hummingbird Mint. My hummingbirds LOVE it. They go crazy for it.
Interesting I have never heard of that, Thanks fr sharing.
Great video! Thank you for showing when things just go wonky. That word (wonky) should be my middle name. Shout out to Ken, fabulous music dude, nailed it!

It is all amazing!!! The blue spruce, weeping no less are so beautiful. It is all that I love Laura ♥️
It is amazing to see how much you’ve done in the south garden so quickly. It’s looking great! And please keep the phlox, I love that color!
Have a Blessed Day 😊🐈
I bought some agastauche from your parents store a few weeks ago. I’m excited for them to thrive in Seattle. 🤞
Thank you for sharing your beautiful gardens with us. Laura, your smile is so beautiful and it's such a joy to see a friendly face. I spend my days alone with very-little to no human interaction. It's always nice to watch your videos and spend time in a happy place.
sending hugs and good thoughts from me and the cats love from england
I live in an area with a lot of deer and deal with deer damage every day. However, the deer do not touch my hyssop. It performs really well and is a wonderful plant.
My worst pests are deer! Argh!!!😡
Good to know, just chased away a big one tonight!

I have become a plants addict inspired by this lady! OMG, I am always planting, relocating plants, buying plants, renewing flower beds, etc!
It’s about time you get the tall hyssop! Couldn’t recommend it more.
I winter showed some Anise Hyssop this past winter and it did great. I'm eager to see how it grows in my yard. I have it in 2 different locations.
Thank you for this information. Your comment has inspired me to try!
Wow you have such an eye! The spruce is stunning next to Willow! and the south garden in the late sun is just stunning. Well done!!!
I'm in love with the colours going on with the Hebe garden - that blue spruce just glows icy blue in that spot! The smoke bush and hyssop you've planted is perfection with the limey greens and blue foliage 😍 OMG love it

I'm wondering if you've considered a formal pond/Versailles-style water feature in the formal garden area. Have a look at Bunny Guinness's simple rectangular pond, or some of the roman shapes
So nice to see the gardens in the original yard getting proper care again. ❤️❤️
Just beautiful! I took a couple pages out of Laura's book and planted heavy and if something doesn't give you joy, re-home it. Thank you for inspiring me!
I love the spruce location, absolutely stunning in that bed.
Thanks for sharing the difficulties of getting in the spruce! Gives us hope at home.
Good morning! I need one of those evergreens in my landscape, so interesting.
I am learning so much from you. And I love your positivity regarding all forms of life. Thank you.
I’ve noticed that too
Everything is looking awesome
Voilà and we have instant impact 🥳😂 Love the addition of the blue spruce, just adds the finishing touch. I must admit as well I was secretly horrified when you initially declared no perennials in the south garden, just trees & shrubs. So to see you plant with such freedom is really satisfying and just absolutely so right!!! And yes, 5y from now, should I be blessed to see, I can only imagine what it's going to look like. Thanks for sharing your garden with us.
Hyssop was the herb of the year a few years ago. So many things you can do with it. Make teas, rubs and flavorings. Lovely plant.
Ooooohhhhh all of them are stunning…. The spruce is soooo perfect in its new home.. luuuhhuuuvvv it….
Loved the filming at that time of evening with the sun low! The statue looked breathtaking in the sunlight under the willow!
Good evening GA friends from Sydney Australia 🤗
That blue spruce looks amazing in its spot, LOVE blue spruce!!
I have to say, the south garden is coming along quite nicely!!! It is filling up the space, looks soooo good with the grass pathways. CANNOT wait to see what it will look like this fall and next spring. It will be ABSOLUTELY glorious!
You are such an inspiration, thank you.
Looks great with the darker dirt or compost - so much neater or finished off👏👍
People I just watched “Linda Smith Davis New England Fine Living” garden tour 7/8.
