I have two Windsor heads. You can get different results with them if you swap out the preamp tubes (Experiment to find your sound) the V1 spot is the most crucial one, they get great Alice In Chains type tones when you crank the preamp up to around 9 and this will also allow you to get a Sabbath, Helmet or anything heavier like that and you can get a cleanish sound when you roll the volume up to around 8 or 9 and use the preamp dial as a volume. These amps also take pedal better than any tube head I’ve ever owned and or played through. A Boss EQ pedal through the effects loops gives you a lot more control as well.
A guy in my town sold his music store last year and way in the back was a Peavy Windsor with its half stack still brand new. He sold it to me for the original going price from back in the day. Its so much fun & so loud! In this shootout i think i give the nod to the VK for overall well rounded sound but i do really like my Windsor for just playing loud in my basement! Thanks, ive been waiting all week for this shootout, it was cool!
Awesome video. I have owned both of these amps. The vk I still have. It was my first gigging amp and It has seen the trenches but still performs. I dont ever use the lead channel though. Always usually a ts9 into which ever distortion pedal i was using at the time. Still a fun amp to crank up from time to time. The riffs in this video are raw, my man. Good stuff.
I have the Windsor, one trick pony but it does it well, what I found is that you NEED to have the master volume up around 5-6 and the sweet spot on the pre amp is around 6-7. Once you get the master up that high the power amp seems to get rid of the that flubbiness, so I use a attenuator to get the master that high and still be able to hear the next day. Also put a EQ in the loop, that does wonders as well.
Your vids are amazing. Shouting from the rooftops More More More!!!
Glad you enjoy them! Cheers -Ryan

I have the Windsor and use it in a thrash metal band (Incursion Dementa) with a 2x12 cab. Performs great!

My opinion, definitely VK, I actually love those amps, highly underrated

I really appreciate the dirty pots PSA you've been giving. Thank you.
It's a simple 30 minute solution... but still nice to know what you can possibly get yourself into. Cheers -Ryan
The windsor was great for classic rock. It has that classic sound if your looking for the 70s Marshall sound.
Fucking awesome
Nice
Valveking Mk II is even better
I can't really hear a difference
