*"Discord Meet-Ups"*
Its already Horrifying with just those 3 words
XD
exactly. y would you ever do that lmaoo
Why the hell would anyone do this
The only thing scarier is *Reddit meet-ups*
@@lavatross6209 imo 100% fine. If you've known each other for an extensive amount of time. And I mean everyone. Not just 2/5 people. All 5 of em
Can I just give mad props to Connor for immediately telling that guy it’s not cool to make people uncomfortable and kicking him out. We need more people like him in the world.
Man's got balls. I mean he even almost fought a homeless guy in LA. I also think it's quite possible that he was so pissed off or weirded out that it outweighed any inhibitions he'd have.

Hearing horror stories like this makes me feel grateful for actually having irl friends that I can comfortably room w/ when we go to cons.
.. you're one of the lucky ones..
That's rare man
UNBAN GAITH.
Me too but sometimes only one of us have enough money for the room so we mooch off eachother which sucks sometimes.
I think a lot of people probably actually have irl friends (I know, shocker), but they probably wouldn't want to go to an Anime convention of all things.
The most horror moment in discord is when a bunch of people speak together at the same time in the voice chat.
oh hey, you're here too?
and then u have one guy with the funny mic asserting dominance
It's one of the reasons I don't party much in games

The man has no fear; he smashed his knee into someone's face because he saw it in a movie. XD
One time I stayed with these people I kinda knew and when I left the con and got home I realized that some of my panties were missing from my bag I was 17 y/o.
Omg
That was messed up
feels like an romcom anime waiting to happen
Oh shit, that's creepy.
Oh...shit
You know something's bad news when the words "Discord" and "Horror story" are combined

Connar is a real human. Confident, adventurous. Recognizing that life isn't just a safe place where nothing ill can ever happen.
(kind of legit) tip:
Cosplaying as a male character, if you're female, you will just naturally repel the majority of con creeps
This has worked pretty much perfectly so far
What if you don't want to crossdress to get treated with respect? :D
@@samaraisnt I didn't say respect, it's just that if you're not cosplaying a female character, you just fly under the radar. Also the respect thing just depends on every individual person.. I've had someone think it was ok to (lightly) kick me in the shin because they didn't like the character I was cosplaying
@@alyssajakielek687 owie shoulda kicked them back
@@rat1170 they were like still in highschool, and if might have been their first con or something, and they might have just gotten over excited because of everything, and got carried away....
I've acted really dumb because I got carried away by the atmosphere and stuff like that, so I'm going to give her the benefit of the doubt because I don't know her and probably won't ever see her again.... And I was like at least 7 years older so.. I mean it's better for me to just brush it off and have fun than get upset over it.. plus I'm accident prone, and have some health stuff, so my pain tolerance is high enough that a few kicks to the shin isn't really much lol
On the flip side, cosplaying as a female character, as a male, you naturally attract con creeps.
discord is the 'socialmedia equivalent' of craigslist... change my mind
Even having the words "Discord" and "Meet" in the same sentence scares me
As a girl and as someone with a lot of standards, I'd fucking never go unless its with friends from irl.
I might be weird, but I never had friends who I only knew online, nor did I ever go to an anime convention. After watching this I honestly don't feel like I've missed something
i mean
it would be pretty scary being around a bunch of child molesters
Yeah, this is why I would never meet anyone from Discord/online unless I've done significant voice/video chatting, because while it still doesn't give you a full grasp of their IRL personality, it's 10x more accurate than just texting them. I actually met my first IRL gf from discord, and although we've since broken up, both experiences meeting up were good and she wasn't much different than how she was over video chat. Could be that I just got lucky, but I would recommend anyone planning on meeting anyone from Discord to at least do a few voice chats and preferably video chats beforehand.
I once shared a room with a group of guys I didn't know. It was a huge dorm style room that I shared with a whole rugby team. As a small 22yo girl I've never been so safe, or had so much fun, in my life. I look back now and don't know what I was thinking, but I was broke and really needed the room. I now have a 21yo daughter and the thought makes my hair stand on end.
As an anime convention organizer we really do have a hard time trying to keep that many people in check especially when the staff to con goer ratio is so unbalanced. We try to ask people to respect and give space for others but they just shrug us off so please be more patient with staff
I’m not an anime guy or been to a convention (on purpose) but this happens all the time with people in bands. Starting bands with guys you met once or never and next thing you know you’re in a van together for a month. Staying in hotel rooms with random “fans” or “fans” who invite you to stay at their house and use their shower.
There’s a lot of creepy people out there. Glad you’re calling them out and that people like y’all are out there who confront people like that!

Connors like 33 and he has the life stories of an old man
23 (or around there) actually, makes it even more impressive.
We shouldn’t forget what our parents taught us
“Never talk to strangers”
(Its also the reason im lonely but its better than being in danger,i also have some trust issue so i never let my guard down with strangers)
Well, talking to strangers is one thing. Opening up to them is another.
Jesus, this makes me appreciate my discord server so much😭 5 years in and these bros really are my fam, took some shit/cringe servers to find them though
Anime convention issues really just arise from the same thing, it's socially inept people not reading the room, and socially inept people not being able to defuse the resulting situation.
Last time I went to a con I complimented this lady on her cosplay and she just starts talking to me nonstop about her life’s story and I’m socially awkward as is and I glance back and see that my fiancé and his siblings left. They come back like 20 minutes later and this girl is still screaming about her mom and how she wants to move out and when I can finally get away and ask why they left me I get a “omg I thought she was your friend!”... I haven’t gone to a con since
Ahhhhh I'm lucky then, all my discord friends have been rlly good
same
Same
Same. Everyone has been chill. Though I'm only on one server.
And Connor's Bizzare Adventure Continues...
"Discord Meet-Up" sounds like the name of a horror movie by itself.
Lol that hotel room discussion really brings me back to MTG tournament days... thank god eventually I said "fuck this shit, I have a big boy job" and refused to do more than 2 people in a room cause there were some nightmarish experiences lol
The problem is the crazy ones are the only ones willing to meet with you guys in real life
I've had a lot of good random rooms for cons through Facebook looking for rooms. I met a lot of chill people. I tend to talk to folks months before the con.
Their discord/online experiences are so different to mine. Topic communities where people don't have interpersonal talk about themselves and their other interests, doing meetups with people who aren't friend of friends or not mass meetup events with some vetting of attendees... I feel closer to, and have a better understanding of my discord friends who I talk to on a daily basis and have since IRC days than I do many of the people I know from IRL. Connections that start IRL in adulthood rarely stop being, well, closed. Even if you're friends for a decade.
Discord meet-ups are not always bad. I went to a starcraft 2 event and was looking for place to stay. 2 guys had booked a small vacation home for 4 people and were looking for 2 more. So I convinced my other discord friend who I hadn't met before to join in. Turned out to be amazing. We chilled together, drank tons of wine and went to the inhouse sauna every evening. Amazig times. Though I gotta say the SC2 community is pretty amazing.
My discord meet ups and hotel trips were all fine. It definitely doesn't always go wrong, you just gotta be choosy and not stay with random people
Joey: Yes but I'm not gonna name names
Oh god it was Noble wasn't it
scariest part is that the discords are filled with the biggest fans. Fans that go beyond people who simply admire some cool people. Fans that straight will murder to be with the person they have an obsession over. I remember scrolling through reddit, mistake there, and found an image of a dead girl. Apparently, it was a 16-year-old semi popular who got killed by one of her fans and then that fan started posting her photos everywhere. People who are extremely obsessed with people that they don't know tend to have an underlying problem that may be extreme
When in life you roll a d20 to receive the Good IRL Discord Friend Pass, but life gives you 5 instead of 20.
1:40 im in the US with a US phone and at my big local con there is NO SERVICE whatsoever throughout the majority of the convention center inside
Looking back, one of my fondest con memories is sleeping 14 people to a room with 2 queen beds (we were all broke high schoolers) we had people sleeping on the hotel desk and under it 😆 biggest fights were the late night panel crowd vs the early birds on sleep schedules
8:20 just Connor being broke
the weirdest way I met my for life friend was she wrote "Iwa-chan matte~" on the desk and when I saw it I wrote under it "whoever wrote this find me in blahblah class by the name *Canadian* " and it deadass worked she came up to our classroom during lunch break and we've been friends since that day
I'm proud to be one of those discord friends that are wild asf online but super chill in real life... 🤣
There're three perspectives regarding inviting a single friend to a party who then wants you to squeeze in his friend circle as well.
1. You, the invitee, have to have the balls to put your foot down and say no. One person is one person.
2. They, the invited, has to be respectful enough to not demand their friends to be invited as well. If you're offered the finger, take the finger, not the hand.
3. They, the friends of the circle, have to be courteous enough to stay out of their friends other friend circles. It's up to the individual friends to introduce this circle to their other circles when it is appropriate, don't get into their business about it.
The only exception to Discord meetings are for one day meetups where you are together for like maybe 6 hours at most at populated areas where the other person can't try anything.
Can we limit meeting people on Discord being creeps to the weebs... Cause I met a guy and went to an esports tournament together... And we had a banging time :D
This video is wild, you couldn't pay me to do one of these as a viewer
I just think that by being Brazilian we have so much warnings and red flags from memes that we never trust someone 100% in discord
as a cosplayer, I can confirm that I am allergic to closing my suitcase
they should bring walkie talkies if theres no service at the convention
Discord in general is a terrible place, it's been a solid half year since I stopped using it and never felt better.
Yeah its mad sus with anonymous people. Its fine if its irl friends that just game together with VC.
Connor is the character that will do stupid shit just because
I feel like there should be more aro intergender friendship media, and I feel like more of them should be about what they were saying at the end especially, about not becoming jealous of 1 friend's other group of friends. It is indeed a struggle, but media definitely doesn't need to perpetuate it when it could in fact help those of us who end up modeling behavior through media to navigate it in healthier ways
… the name of the app...is .....DISCORD
Met up with discord people in Japan. Ended up crashing in a guys room because we missed last train and everyone was smashed.
ALL THE RED FLAGS :D
Connor really likes to live dangerously doesn't he? LMAO
We fit 6 people in one room during a convention. It was so cramped in that room. I barely slept that weekend.
There's a decent amount of cons in my home town so I never got a hotel room lol
7:11 "so needless to say, I earned fifty bucks"
Omg the little Hyakkimaru figure in the background is so cute
8:50 war flashbacks to when I was 19 sharing an airbnb for a con with a few friends and some of their discord friends...
by sheer luck nothing happened to me but boy was there some questionable moments
being on discord is already a red flag ngl
Oh yeah imagine meeting your best friend bc y’all shared a room with a killer that will be a good friend
I consider "military dudes" and people who enlist to be different entities
The first and last time I met up with someone from discord they threatened to throw me off the balcony
Not me going to conventions and places with different groups ofdiscord friends multiple times even after bad things happening 🙃
This is my first time ever seeing yall. Gonna check out a lot more, this is hilarious!!
I can't go because I have no friends.
I would never sleep in a room with a stranger. It doesn't take much to stab someone in the neck while they sleep.
Hahaha
What are these "friends" you are referring to? I have no idea what that word means!
Completely irrelevant but my comment section has moved back to the bottom
Christ, I really did get lucky with the group of *4chan* people I went to the (local-ish) con with - shit went pretty smoothly.
6:56 holy shit, their reactions
I'm lucky I live in a big city and Uber exists now. It's so much cheaper to just stay home and ride there or take public transport. Would not travel for a con.
Never gone to an anime convention and I don’t really have friends to go with. I am more happy to wait until I can afford my own room and have some privacy
same i dont know how someone can sleep in a room with random unknown people
I love finding chill randos at conventions you just have to ask 3 important questions Question #1 do you make noises you've heard in anime if they say yes with a serious face its hard No if they say yes or no with a nice chuckle then you've passed question 1 Question #2 Do you snore? that's a flat no if they say yes unless there just fuckin awesome Question #3 Give me brief synapsis on yourself? and if they get to question 3 more times than not there usually really chill. Unless you get the crazy one 3 will weed em out lol Gl guys don't give up on the randos meeting new people is awesome
I have been playing games with the same group of people for 7 years and didn't meet them irl until this year. One of them always had annoyed me and it wouldn't be someone I'd be friends with if it wasn't for the fact he was friends with everyone else, but I guess I had a good reason. We were hanging out at another guy's house and the weirdo is known to be on Tinder etc and trying to chase girls in general. He was like 'ah yeah I am kinda interested in someone' . Some questions were asked, turned out she was 15... he is 26. I told him 'Dude, you're fucking joking right?' and I told him that shit is disgusting and illegal, kinda in a jokey way since we had some more time left to hangout and I didn't want it to be awkward for the entire group, but I sure as fucking hell told him that shit ain't okay. His excuse 'yeah but im not interested in sex bla bla' and i just responded 'that literally doesnt make it any better'.
Im not the one to confront people, especially if i just met them irl but seeing we have been 'online friends' for years I felt the need to tell him what a fucking bad thing that was, and in the end nothing happened between him and that girl but god, i dont like him anymore at all. kinda still stuck with him being in the group, but i will always remember that conversation. shit's gross. moral of the story, dont trust anyone on the internet. (all the other guys and the other girl were chill af btw, just sucks only me and the other girl called him out on that bs as the other guys just laughed at it as if it was a joke)
LOL i've met and went t hotel/ homes of discord friends but like i knew them for idk 1/2 years and it was fine and they still are good friends to me
oh no maybe if none of them was a creep then maybe I was the one
I have never been to a convention
i dont really have many friends but we're going to mcm london con in october, we're already going to london next month, and im going with my mom and sister, thankfully
How has Connor stayed alive this long with Instincts that bad?
wait so you can either be chill irl and be a mess online OR chill online and be a mess irl
The creepy guy Connor is talking about sounds like my roommate from hell.
wow wow wow, i've met some people my age maybe a year older and i've known then for a year (we met on a online game) and we have been talking alot on discord and other games and in like 6 years if we happen to still be friends we think we should meet up. i have alot of social anxiety i think i'm just gonna go pass out now.
Meeting up with weeb strangers for a convention? That's already a hard yikes. Have you SEEN the types of people that attend cons? 😂
