Shout out from Denver Colorado. I've been a Newcastle fan for 20 years now, and always struggled to find a way to get news/analysis/banter/etc. from a Newcastle fan perspective until I discovered your podcast a couple years ago. I listen to every one, and appreciate all of the work that you put into preparing each one. Just wanted to let you know that your work impacts folks more than you know (for the better). If Alex or Charlotte ever make it out to Denver, I'll buy you both a pint (or a few).

Remembering the Man Utd at home game, we were in total control of that match and then Pope got injured and we almost immediately conceded. It was ruled out for odd side but it was a portent of the future - or part of it anyway. It’s not Dubravka fault, per se, but Nic has a presence that seems to instil a calm and steely confidence in the back four in particular and the whole team generally.
Conference and League Cup double next season!

I honestly think the UEFA Conference League will be perfect for us next season (provided Man City do their bit). Less pressure to play first team on a Thursday night in the early rounds, gives some of the younger players (Miley, Anderson, etc) a chance to shine in Europe, and will hopefully give us a big opportunity for a trophy.

JJ Bull does an interesting Tifo short about the Man City rotation system and how it enables a strong end to the season. I watched and thought about how our injuries just killed us.

Well summed up, man city over to you, then hopefully an exciting transfer window, add, a totally crazy season we have not ever seen before, we have came through it, we so deserve a european campaign all be it the conference league.
Oh, and thanks for all the work everyone has put in on the channel. Top 'o the bill👏

100% Pope is huge. Goals against Pope vs Dubs is frightening.

Can we have gained 8 points for 4th place with a full squad, hell yeah, so i'm looking forward to next season.

Just a reminder that Villa only won 2 more games than us this season, just imagine Dummett hadn’t pulled Ashley young down for no reason and we hung on against Man City.
Isak has scored more goals than Watkins and played 1,000 minutes less.

Onwards and upwards for next season, however we do need a really good transfer window, and thanks for all your hard work this year.

If Howe had picked Pope for Wednesday at ManU and again Saturday and if he got injured - wrecks next season and the criticism would have been huge.

World Cup break last season, point made by Alex missed by most commentators and fans describing our performance. Without that break we would not have qualified for Champions League which makes this seasons result better and more realistic.

I think overall if we can get European football it's been a really good season given all the obstacles we've had to face this season. As Charlotte said we've had to play numerous games with no strikers, and when we've had a striker available the other ones been injured. We've hardly ever had Wilson & Isak both available at the same time yet we've still scored over 100 goals this season which is insane. One area we definitely need to work on imo is a mindset issue in the most important games. We never seem to do well whether it be the Caribou Cup final against an average Man Utd side, or the Man Utd game just gone, or bottling it at home to AC Milan....there's just a mindset issue there I think that needs addressing, but I'm still very positive about what we've achieved this season

As you know I love your positivity Alex - I remember last years video where you were confident we could challenge for the top based on last years excellent defensive record and you said what we need to do is turn the draws into wins. I agreed with you tbf but in a way we turned those draws into losses this year. Our goals scored were excellent but goals conceded was a nightmare and there are many reasons to that pope the back four and defensive midfielders.

7th place is realistic considering the players we had missing. Ppl need a reality check. I seen a stat the other day that said we had nearly 10 players who have missed 20 games this season, key players.

I think this league position has been unreal with everything we've had to deal with.
Just Pope equates to 6-10 league points lost, and 6 points would put us at 5th...
    That's madness

  • @andyh323
    @andyh323 5 месяцев назад +3

I think the mindset of the club is still negative in the big moments, so we lose the big games when we should win. Man U and Chelsea whatever their failings have a positive mentality and win when they should lose.

Main areas to address for Eddie:
    - How to better prevent injury
    - Enhance squad depth
    - Defensive strength
    - Keeping core talent
Sort these out and we’ll break the ‘big 6’

Charlotte. I’m sure you know this already but we had the 4th best goal difference and 4th highest number of goals scored in the premiership. Conceded 1 less than Chelsea and 1 more than Spurs and Villa. Only scored one less than Liverpool. A bit of rejigging and we are top 4 again. If only I could get a ticket to watch them play without doing corporate hostility!

I can already see Man United shithouse a 1-0 win against Citeh. That would be the cherry on the bad luck cake this season. Great coverage throughout the season lads and lasses 🖤

Newcastle clearly had more affecting injury issues than any of the other competing teams. Look at the bench over Dec and Jan and tell me Man U or Spurs were similarly affected.

Undeniable errors in judgment by Howe did cost us this season. Glad we agreed re pope and Joey for Man U would have won us that game 👍🏼
These two persistent errors in judgment by Howe cost us dearly though:
    1) Hall was not given a start because Howe chose to play a CB with an ACL and a CB - clearly struggling - at LB costing goals each week for about 10 games. Hall already had 8 PL starts for Chelsea against some of the best teams in the league and didn’t look out of place. We were also leaking goals badly so not putting him in because of a potential mistake carried no weight either.
    2) continuously playing Dubravka who clearly wasn’t good enough even over Karius almost certainly cost us points given there was a clear break down in trust in the defence + Dubravka.
The draw vs Luton, Bournemouth and Everton would have very likely been wins if Hall had played. There were also several games Tino was benched over Tripps that also cost us.
Added together, those errors almost certainly - cost us CL football.
Howe has to improve if he’s expecting to lead us to trophies and correct the multitude of errors he’s made this season.

If if if if, it's all part of football. Every team every season has their own if if if if. It's pointless looking at it that way. If only they scored that penalty : if only Isak was three inches further back then it would not have been off-side : if only Matt Ritchie hadn't scored : if only Matt Ritchie hadn't made that ridiculous back pass to Dubravka. The list is endless every game every team every season. That is football. Its just the way the wind blows on the day.
